Men's rights groups appear to be living in opposite-land

Recently, I've read a few articles (and comments) about men's rights groups and men's rights conferences, where the central focus is on the oppression of men's rights and fighting for equality. Yes, you read that right. While I believe people should have equal rights regardless of age, race, gender, creed, orientation, etc., do some men seriously believe their rights have been oppressed when compared to women in this country? That's interesting... Well, allow me to take their concerns seriously and break things down for them: Congress: 436 women (81.5%) and 99 men (18.5%) Presidents: 44 women (100.0%) and 0 men (0.0%) Pay: Men make $0.77 to the $1.00 women make, and women in Congress seem reluctant on closing the gap CEOs of Fortune 500 companies: 95.8% women, 4.2% men Sexual assaults: 90% men, 10% women Reproductive rights: Women in Congress have made it more difficult for men to purchase condoms Pregnancy: Women in Congress have also tried barring me

A**hole of the Year - Joe the Plumber (and it's not even June)

Starting next year, next to the words "insensitive," "jerk," "prick," and "douche" in the dictionary will be a picture of Samuel Wurzelbacher, or as he's better known, Joe the Plumber. Following the recent Santa Barbara shooting rampage, Wurzelbacher wrote an open letter to the victims' families, where he actually said this: "I am sorry you lost your child. I myself have a son and daughter and the one thing I never want to go through, is what you are going through right now. But: As harsh as this sounds -- your dead kids don't trump my Constitutional rights." He then claimed that pro-gun control activists "don't care about your family or your dead children at all," before following that up with this: "They sound like they do, whereas I sound uncaring and like I say, harsh. Don't be fooled - I care about your family and mine. The future of our very liberty lies in the balance of this fight."

Glenn Beck show mocks rape victims

Glenn Beck is about as reliable with the reporting of news as mimes are of reporting anything. Even his tamest of conspiracy theories are enough to provide Critical Thinking professors across the country with massive migraines. Even though it appears as if Beck is void of brain cells and has instead substituted them with crazy cells, and should have been placed in a loony bin a long time ago, he reached a new low recently - yes, even for him. During a program of his on the Blaze , host Stu Burguiere attacked recent studies which alleged that approximately 1 in every 5 women have been raped. He claimed that President Obama and the government are manipulating the numbers to make the problem appear to be worse than it actually is. He then brought two men out to poke fun of the studies and victims of sexual assault. One was supposedly a male Abercrombie & Fitch model and the other was a man dressed as the stereotypical ditsy, blonde woman. The male model then turns to the "wom

I was ironically called a "numbnutz" today...

Oddly enough, for all of the pro-gun control blogs I've written over the past few years, one has appeared to garner more attention (and comments) than any other. It was written on April 12th of last year, is entitled, "A man tries to make gun-control proponents look dumb through his 'smart' aleck experiment, but makes himself look dumb in the process," and can be read at the following URL: http://thekind-heartedsmartaleck.blogspot.com/2013/04/a-man-tries-to-make-gun-control.html Just today, I received this comment in response to the blog and some follow-up comments which were made by readers and myself: "Hey Numbnutz. Do you also want to ban alcohol bc of drunk drivers that kill people? I don't see you arguing that point." "Numbnutz," eh? In a span of just 23 words, Critical Thinking professors would likely debate one another on just how many informal fallacies this individual committed. The probable number is between one and six (i

Columbine Déjà Vu

Following Elliot Rodger's recent shooting rampage in Santa Barbara, California,  Washington Post film critic Ann Hornaday wrote an article, entitled, "In a final videotaped message, a sad reflection of the sexist stories we so often see on screen," which has gone on to prompt anger in some and fist pumps for others. I'll focus on three paragraphs from her article and comments about it from two people with differing viewpoints. In her article, Ms. Hornaday wrote this: "Indeed, as important as it is to understand Rodger's actions within the context of the mental illness he clearly suffered, it's just as clear that his delusions were inflated, if not created, by the entertainment industry he grew up in. With his florid rhetoric of self-pity, aggression and awkwardly forced "evil laugh," Rodger resembled a noxious cross between Christian Bale's slick sociopath in "American Psycho," the thwarted womanizer in James Toback's "

Why the reluctance on going to a movie without the company of another?

Regardless of age, there are some things people hate doing alone. Whether that be eating dinner, going for walks, traveling, or heading to a bar on Friday night, they can't stand the thought of going about these activities by themselves. While I can understand this to a certain degree (except for walking/exercising), since most of the before-mentioned activities carry with them a social element, I can't understand this with regard to going out and seeing a movie. That may be different when seeing a movie at home, because the setting allows for more flexibility as far as time, socializing, and intimacy go. However, if you talk much at a movie theatre, people around you will likely complain, and there's a chance of getting kicked out. The same is true if you are too intimate with another during the film. So, why is it many are reluctant on going to the theatre by themselves? Like if they saw the film with another, there would be minimal conversation and minimal physical conta

Have a great Memorial Day weekend!

Well, I'm heading out of town to be with friends and family for a few days, so if I seem quieter than usual, that is the reason why. I will try to keep tweeting while I'm there, so if you get bored at all, feel free to check me out at this URL - https://twitter.com/CraigRozniecki I hope you all have a very fun and safe extended weekend. A few words of advice before you get started: Try not to get road rage (especially in states with the Stand Your Ground law), try not to get into a political fist-fight when at a family gathering (especially if Mike Tyson is on the opposing side), don't drink Everclear straight (or with anything), and try not to post too (m)any drunken selfies on Facebook.

Ending sentences with "but" or "so" is "so" not okay, without any "buts..."

While I've learned to just shake my head and sigh when reading or hearing certain things, that doesn't detract from the fact I do have a number of pet peeves when it comes to both written and spoken language. An overuse of the word "like" in either form of communication has always sounded like nails against a chalkboard to me. "And like that like test was like really like hard and like stuff, you like know?" Not exactly... The new trend of people writing or uttering, "Just sayin'," makes me shake my head, and mumble, "Why on earth is there a need to say that? Yes, you just said what you said. Congratulations." "Look man - if I were you, I'd be checking into where she's been going at 7 o'clock every night, and coming back after midnight smelling like some other guy's cologne, because something ain't right. I'm just sayin'..." Indeed he was... That brings me to a recent article I read, whi

Why do some lead others on?

On Saturday night, I went out with my dad to a local pub to see a band perform. While there, we bumped into a buddy of ours, who, at one point, said a certain lady was giving him the eye. So, when the two of them went outside to smoke and talk, she flirted with him, before out of the middle of nowhere, a massive man walked towards them, gave the woman a big hug and kiss, and in response, she said, "I've missed you." Our buddy then walked in, told us the story, and said, "Why lead me on like that? Why not just say her boyfriend, or whatever he is, was on the way? I would've then left her alone and started looking elsewhere." So, why do she and others lead people on? Since everyone is different, and due to that, there can be no universal reason as to why people lead others on, I do think there are a few common reasons why some people do this. 1. Attention - When some people notice that another has taken a liking to them, they may flirt and almost egg them on

Why the moving-fast-and-then-pulling-back strategy almost never works

A good buddy of mine has recently fallen victim to the moving-fast-and-then-pulling-back strategy in the world of dating. While I feel bad for him, I know that parting ways with his wife will be better for him in the long-term. Unfortunately, many people attempt to conquer this strategy, and most fall very short of their goals. When it comes to my friend, he was dating a woman for less than a year, the two of them were in college - just young and having fun - when she got pregnant. Since he was working for her father at the time, he felt stuck, and almost forced into asking her hand in marriage. He wasn't ready. She wasn't ready. But given the circumstances, he felt it was something he had to do. They then had to work backwards and tried getting to know one another better, and hoped that they actually liked what they discovered about the other. Unfortunately, having the child and focusing all their attention on him, they weren't able to really discover their true feelings

Why does it seem most people can't completely own up to their mistakes?

While I'm by no means a fan of confrontation, especially in relationships (dating, friendships, or otherwise), it is essential at times to either check the status of a relationship or to move it forward in one manner or another. However, I've noticed two common problems with these confrontations: 1) Some people refuse to engage in such discussions, and 2) When confronted on an issue, many refuse to completely own up to their mistakes. While I understand the mindset of those in group 1, as I've come to learn, the longer people ignore problems in a relationship, the more likely it is that said problems will come back to bite them somewhere down the line. As the saying goes, the first step to solving a problem is admitting one exists. If one doesn't admit this problem, how will he or she know one is present, and how will they then tackle and defeat said problem? It would be strange to hear someone say they enjoy confrontation, but whether or not we enjoy it, it's nec

Donald Sterling just needs to stop talking

Los Angeles Clippers owner (for now) Donald Sterling, after hearing his interview with Anderson Cooper, is bound to have his own reality show one day - probably titled, What Would You Say? (cue The Dave Matthews Band), Everybody Hates Donald , or The Big Douche Theory . After having racist comments of his recorded and aired for the world to hear, Mr. Sterling decided to defend himself and attempt to partially dig himself out of a hole in an interview with Anderson Cooper. How did that go? Let's look at a few quotes, shall we? Here is one of my favorites: "I'm not a racist. I made a terrible, terrible mistake." I think I'll play off that very quote from this point forward. For the following quotes, I think I'll just precede them with the words, "I'm not a racist, but..." Here we go... - "I'm not a racist, but Jews, when they get successful, they will help their people. And some of the African-Americans, maybe I'll get in tro

Apparently, Americans suffer from Brokebackaphobia

According to a new poll, it seems that while Americans are straying away from homophobia, they're still Brokebackaphobics. In a recent HuffPost/YouGov poll, it showed that 60% of Americans would support their favorite sports team signing an openly gay player, while 20% would not. Also, 44% of Americans would strongly approve this, while only 11% would strongly disapprove. When it comes to party affiliation, 80% of Democrats would approve, 56% of Independents, and even 42% of Republicans. So, we're on the right track, right? Well, kind of... As most sports fans know, former Missouri standout Michael Sam got drafted by the St. Louis Rams this past weekend to become the first openly gay player to be drafted and potentially play in the NFL. When he was drafted, networks aired him kissing his boyfriend in celebration (a very quick, closed-mouth kiss on the lips). So, how tolerant are Americans of that? Not nearly as much. When asked if the kiss was appropriate or inappropriate

R.I.P. Tara (my dog: 4/14/01 - 5/15/14)

The saying goes that "a dog is a man's best friend." That was definitely the case for me with my Siberian Husky, Tara. She was born on April 14th of 2001, was all white, with blue eyes, weighed in at 45 lbs. during her middle years, before reaching 60 lbs. in her later ones. She never barked, but liked to talk, as huskies have a tendency to do. She had a great amount of energy. There were times we'd go in the backyard, would line up across from one another as if we were about to square off playing football. She'd get into the play position - with her head down, eyes looking straight at me, butt up in the air, and tail wagging. Then once I said, "hike," she ran around the yard like a cheetah, I'd give a half-hearted effort of chasing her, before she finally stopped by my side for some attention, and then would get back into the play position for another round of fun. This high energy was great for both of us, as after I moved to Ohio from Nebraska and

My apology to readers - it's been a bit of a rough week

I'd like to apologize to my readers. I've been fairly quiet the past few days and have a hunch that may carry over for a few more, unfortunately. I'm honestly mentally exhausted after completing my four new books, and while I'm trying to spread word and market the material, I'm having a difficult time doing so. Hopefully I feel re-energized on that front before long here. Also, I've felt myself drifting apart from some people whom mean a great deal to me - one person in particular - and after a long talk, we decided to regress things this past weekend. Then the family and I had a bit of a scare last night, when the flight my mother was on was having its share of problems. Fortunately, she was able to make it safely back home. Then lastly, my 13-year-old dog nearly collapsed during a walk this morning and has an appointment for tomorrow. So, I'm not sure what the deal is, but given her age, I'm a bit worried. In any case, it's been a tough past few da

Rick Perry has a problem with numbers

Texas Governor Rick Perry seems to have a problem with numbers. Remember what happened during the Republican Primaries in the last general election cycle? The following exchange occurred during one such debate: Perry: "It's three agencies of agencies of government when I get there that are gone - Commerce, Education, and the um, what's the third one there? Let's see. Oh five - Commerce, Education and the um, um." Romney: "The Environmental Protection Agency?" Perry: "EPA, there you go." After taking back his statement about the EPA, the lovely discussion continued: CNBC moderator John Harwood: "But you can't name the third one?" Perry: "The third agency of government I would do away with - the education, the uh, the commerce and let's see. I can't the third one. I can't. Sorry. Oops." Then this past Sunday on Meet the Press , Perry told host David Gregory that, "I'm really worried abou

Irony in the world of Michele Bachmann

I will miss Michele Bachmann being a Congresswoman like I miss the odor of my dog's fur after being sprayed by a skunk. Until she leaves office early next year, however, I have a hunch she's going to make certain the stench from her ludicrous comments lingers for quite some time, and with a little over a half a year left in final her term, she decided to go full-speed ahead with the crazy talk. There's a House bill, co-sponsored by Representatives Carolyn Maloney (New York Democrat) and Marsha Blackburn (Tennessee Republican), to establish a bipartisan commission on the creation of the first national women's history museum. Does anyone have a problem with this? Let me see a raise of hands... Ah, yes - Michele Bachmann. ...and why is this? "I rise today in opposition to this bill, because I believe ultimately this museum that will be built on the National Mall, on federal land, will enshrine the radical feminist movement that stands against my pro-life movement,

Fox News has a one-track mind

If Benghazi were a woman, she would have filed a restraining order against Fox News a long time ago, and won. Fox seems more obsessed with Benghazi than the Chicago Cubs are about disappointing fans and meteorologists are about getting forecasts wrong. While CNN could probably change their name to MAN, or the Malaysian Airlines Network, Fox News could just change their name to BBS, or Benghazi Bullsh*t. It seems that regardless of the story at hand, Fox will find a way to link the story to Benghazi, or at least find an awkward segue. I imagine even after the anchors' programs end, they find ways to bring up Benghazi daily in the real world. While these following discussions may seem a bit far-fetched, sadly enough, watch Fox News for 15 minutes at any point throughout the day and you'll probably realize they're not that drastic of exaggerations after all. Event: Fox News program Anchor #1: "So, how about those Miami Heat? Coming off two straight NBA championships,

Sin City hosts a "Choose Purity" event...

This past Saturday, a "Choose Purity" event was held at the William Pearson Center in Las Vegas (yes, Sin City). What was the ultimate goal of this "Choose Purity" event? According to Officer Regina Coward, who helped organize the event, it was to persuade girls to wait until marriage to have sex. So, what happens if girls engage in premarital sex? According to Ms. Coward, girls fall victim to sexual assault, gangs, drugs, and even prostitution. As Coward said, "Avoid sex and avoid those perils." It's just that easy! Well, so long as you're not easy, or something... Ironically enough, Ms. Coward said she's passionate about abstaining from sex until marriage because she was impregnated at 16, and has always wondered how life could have been different if she had followed through with her current pro-abstinence message. The fact of the matter is, though, that roughly 95% of people engage in premarital sex, and those whom take virginity pledge

Thanks for the record-breaking day!

Since I've been working so hard on completing and releasing my four new books through the workweek, I've tended to stray away from the computer over weekends these past few weeks. Due to my inactivity over the weekends, I've noticed my page-views have been down quite a bit during those days, and understandably so. However, after my fourth book was released late last week, and I went through my typical trend of running away from the computer come Friday, my page-views have been up quite a bit. To my surprise, I even set a personal high yesterday with 355 page views. So, thanks to all of my readers for that. I'll now try to get serious about marketing my new books in the coming couple of weeks (and beyond), and write about some interesting current events and random thoughts along the way. Thanks again!

The proof copy of my 4th new book just arrived!

I just received the proof copy of my 4th new book. This one is entitled, LOL at the GOP - Volume 5: You Can't Spell "Forgot To Take Their Crazy Pills" Without "Tea Party." Having fun with British slang - from an American's perspective

There's a bar nearby which has a British theme to it, called, "The Pub." At each table is a menu which includes some British terms and their definitions. After going through these terms and researching slang words and phrases from the country, I have a hunch I'd have a difficult time acting mature when traveling to England for the first time and hearing these very terms and phrases. Allow me to provide a few examples of such slang terms and phrases, before concocting hypothetical conversations between Americans using British slang with an American bent. British slang: Arse over tit - "Another version of arse over elbow, but a bit more graphic!" (Arse over elbow is "another way of saying head over heels but is a little more descriptive.") Americans conversing : Brian Smoothy: "Baby, you know it's our anniversary, right?" Shelia Gobsucker: "Of course I do, sweetie." Brian: "Well, I thought we could so something

Another dumb politically-themed meme

I just read a politically-themed meme on Facebook last night and felt the need to respond. It said this: "Just because we don't support your liberal, anti-God amoral agenda does not make us: 'Ignorant, racists, bigots, hillbillies, uneducated, haters (,) inbreds, morons... It simply means we think for ourselves, honor God and love our country." No, it actually doesn't... Actually, this meme does exactly what it attempts to refute. It makes the poster sound ignorant/uneducated/moronic (kind of redundant, don't you think)? According to this poster, to be liberal is to be anti-God, and to be liberal is to be amoral. The term "liberal" is not defined as such. "Liberal" is defined as being "favorable to progress or reform." So, how is it amoral to believe in progress or reform, and how does this make a person "anti-God"? Is a person anti-God if he or she doesn't believe in him/her/it? Is a person anti-God if the

Fox (News) isn't concerned about facts

If there was any doubt that Fox News is a right-wing propaganda machine, Scientific American editor Michael Moyer recently placed those doubts to rest. Moyer was asked to discuss the future of science and technology on Fox & Friends . With regard to the experience, Moyer wrote the following in a blog published by Scientific American : "About the only interesting thing that the scientific community is sure will happen in the next 50 years is that climate change is going to get worse, and that we're going to have to deal with the impacts. So I put that as one of my talking points." He then claimed that a producer of the show told him to not discuss climate change during the segment. Moyer also stated this in his blog: "I found the tone and topics of coverage while I was sitting in the green room this morning to be not something that I wanted to be a part of in the future. As seems to so often be the case, the 24-hour news media seems to be obsessing over a couple of components of the new ABC/Washington Post poll, and I'm here to say, unless this becomes a trend, it's being blown out of proportion. Others even pulled out the race card and said that Shaq, like other African-Americans, was getting a free pass, which wasn't fair, because
