What's to come in 2016

After releasing four books in 2014, I focused mainly on marketing in 2015 and with good results. In 2016, I look to balance the two out a bit better. Expect at least one new book in the new year, if not more. They'll all be of the comedy variety (no matter how many I release). In the meantime, I'll continue writing plenty of satire, along with putting my two cents in on more serious topics as well. So, be sure to keep checking in with regard to all of that. I'll be certain to continually update readers on any progress I make with regard to future writing projects. Well, I just thought I'd let everyone know. Happy New Year!

Are we sure Jeb is the smart Bush?

After listening to former President George W. Bush speak for 8 years while in the Oval Office, it was easy to see why he was often labeled as less bright than his brother Jeb. However, after hearing Jeb speak on the campaign trail this year, not to mention in debates, one has to wonder if the gap in intelligence between the two brothers is less than we had originally thought. The latest such example came at a campaign event in Lexington, South Carolina, where the "brighter" Bush said this: "In fact when I was governor, in 16 months we had eight hurricanes and four tropical storms. One of them was called Katrina. I don't know why your great state senator reminds me of a hurricane. But she does." That's right, Jeb Bush basically referred to Democratic South Carolina state Senator Katrina Shealy as Hurricane Katrina. Not only does this look bad from the standpoint Jeb is nicknaming a state senator after one of the most horrific hurricanes to ever hit the

Mentioned on The Telegraph and Independent

As I said in my previous post, I had a bit of fun on Twitter last night with the (then) trending hashtag #Likely2016Headlines. Well, I came to find out this morning I got mentioned on the UK websites The Telegraph and Independent  for one of my tweet, "Fox News airs a new show called 'What Women Really Want,' hosted by five guys #Likely2016Headlines" The articles can be viewed at the following two links:  http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/howaboutthat/12076221/Leo-to-win-an-Oscar-Twitter-predicts-the-headlines-we-could-see-in-2016.html and http://i100.independent.co.uk/article/people-are-predicting-2016-headlines-and-its-a-dystopian-nightmare--WJoiOwdiie If you've yet to check out my Twitter page and/or haven't started "following" me on there, it can be viewed here: https://twitter.com/CraigRozniecki

#Likely2016Headlines

For the second consecutive night, I had quite a bit of a trending hashtag on Twitter last night - this time the hashtag was #Likely2016Headlines. I posted 26 such tweets. Here they are, ordered from the most to the least popular (all my tweets can be viewed at this link - https://twitter.com/CraigRozniecki): 1) Fox News airs a new show called "What Women Really Want," hosted by five guys #Likely2016Headlines 209 Likes, 86 Retweets 2) Ben Carson sings "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" while searching Egypt's pyramids for stored grain #Likely2016Headlines 43 Likes, 12 Retweets 3) Rick Santorum gets drunk, admits he cries while watching "Brokeback Mountain" every time he watches it #Likely2016Headlines 34 Likes, 7 Retweets 4) The GOP House proposes we change our national anthem from "The Star-Spangled Banner" to "If I Could Turn Back Time" #Likely2016Headlines 15 Likes, 8 Retweets 5) Mythbusters'

If you copy and paste this picture, Mark Zuckerberg is going to...

It's hard not to love hoaxes spread on Facebook, isn't it? The latest one making the rounds says this: "Mark Zuckerberg is going to give away 4.5 million shares of his Facebook stock tonight at midnight; 10% to people like you and me! All you have to do is copy and paste this to your page and post. Facebook is doing this to show what a powerful tool of connection it is !!! Can't wait to see who wins !!! This is not a hoax !!! It's on Good Morning America!!!" Yes, it's just THAT easy!!! Sorry, I felt the need to follow the three exclamation point trend for a moment. I'll stop now. But seriously, while we'd all love for millions of dollars to fall out of the sky onto our laps (yes, even through the sturdy roofs of our homes), unless we get incredibly lucky with a lottery ticket, there's less chance of that happening than a sloth beating Usain Bolt in the 200 metre at the Olympics. Like most such Facebook posts, this one has been debunked more

GOP Presidential Candidates' New Year's Resolutions

With New Year's right around the corner, I thought I'd provide some fitting resolutions for every GOP presidential candidate from this election season (yes, all 17 of them). Here they are in alphabetical order: Jeb Bush - To not place a "Mission  Accomplished" banner behind him during a speech when he's in 5th place Ben Carson - To sound more exciting than a passed out Ben Stein when debating Chris Christie - To release an autobiography, entitled, I'm the Real Godfather, Motherf**kers! Ted Cruz - To quote every word from the film A Princess Bride while again trying to convince Congress to repeal Obamacare Carly Fiorina - To write a children's book, entitled, What Planned Parenthood Could Have Done To You Jim Gilmore - To be known by more than 43 people in the country Lindsey Graham - To dispel gay rumors by dressing in camo and hunting bears in the woods, all the while fanning himself and singing showtunes Mike Huckabee - To photoshop all h

I had a little fun on Twitter last night with the (then) trending hashtag #AndThatsWhenTheFightBrokeOut. Can't we all just get along (meaning Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders supporters)?

While I had voted before, I didn't get seriously involved with politics until the 2008 election. My first election was in 2000 (when I was 19). I was in college, was focused more on partying and chasing girls than current events, and while I knew I leaned to the left, I didn't care a great deal about the world of politics. That all changed on 9/11 (when I was 20) when reality struck me (most of us) smack dab in the face and heart. I, and probably many others, was incredibly naive at that point in my life. I was a college kid, trying to find myself, trying to find what I wanted to do with my life, busy meeting new people, dating, and enjoying some semblance of independence/adulthood. Through all that, never did I think to myself we'd get struck by terrorists, we'd wage a seemingly endless war and lose thousands of our soldiers in the process, and my life would forever change by the horrific events on September 11th of 2001. Like most Americans, I was at a loss, uncertain

Tamir Rice trolls are out in force

After a grand jury decided not to indict Timothy Loehmann, the Cleveland officer who shot and killed 12-year-old Tamir Rice last year, debates have sparked across all media outlets, emotions running high in the process. While I can understand that it's inevitable for there to be differences of opinion on the subject, I'm amazed at the large quantity of Tamir Rice trolls making their presence known on numerous websites. Here's a very condensed summary of what happened. On November 22nd of last year, 12-year-old Tamir Rice was playing with a toy gun in a park, a witness called the police about the matter, informing them it was "probably fake," yet the individual who took the call didn't report this information to the police, and two seconds after the cops arrived, Officer Loehmann shot and killed Rice. I've heard all the arguments from those defending the cop's actions: - "The kid should have known to drop the gun when the cops arrived!"

Even if Peyton Manning did HGH, so what?

Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning has come under recent scrutiny after Al Jazeera America aired a documentary,  The Dark Side , which insinuated the veteran quarterback may have taken HGH in 2011 when he was recovering from multiple neck surgeries. Investigative reporter Deborah Davies has since said the documentary never claimed to have proof the quarterback took HGH, only that HGH was delivered by Guyer Institute to Ashley Manning (Peyton's wife) in Florida on multiple occasions. My question is, even if Peyton Manning did take HGH while attempting to recover from injury, why should it matter? PEDs (performance-enhancing drugs) have been bastardized in the sports world, and rightly so if athletes use them to gain an unfair advantage on their competition (on the field/court/etc.). However, why, if an athlete and his/her doctor feel HGH (or another PED) will help speed up the recovery from an injury, is it also looked down upon? It would have been one thing if Peyton Manni

Mixed feelings on the Chip Kelly firing

I haven't had a strong feeling one way or the other with regard to Chip Kelly during his tenure with the Philadelphia Eagles. When he was first hired, I admit to being quite curious how his style of offense would transfer to the NFL, but at the same time, didn't firmly believe one way or the other on the matter. This curiosity was partly due to the talent and speed he would coach on the Eagles offense. Let's not forget, when Kelly first took over, the Philadelphia Eagles had: Michael Vick at quarterback, LeSean McCoy at tailback, as well as DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin at receiver. The team was fun, fast, and exciting in Kelly's first season there. Even when Vick went down with an injury, Nick Foles filled in admirably, playing so well he remained the team's starter for the remainder of the season. The Eagles went on to win the NFC East with a 10-6 record, only to lose in the 1st round of the playoffs. To the surprise of many, speedster DeSean Jackson was re

So that's what a panic attack feels like...

I'm not going to beat around the bush (literally or figuratively); it's been a rough end to the year. I'm still not exactly sure what happened Saturday night. Everything's still kind of a blur (and yes, I was completely sober). All I can remember is alternately feeling warm and cold, being unusually shaky, and before I knew it, experiencing heart palpitations like never before, having extreme difficulty breathing, and reaching a point where I thought I wasn't going to live much longer. An emergency vehicle arrived shortly thereafter, rushed me to a local hospital, where I got fully hydrated and settled down, to the point where I was released early the next morning. It was a struggle the next three days, though, as I found myself having trouble sleeping, feeling anxious as deja vu struck me while laying in bed, and thinking about my breathing, almost paranoid about it, much more than usual. Four days after the frightening experience, while I still feel alternately wa

My NFL Power Rankings (through Week 16)

It's been a long and rough week, so I think I'm going to have to bypass the typical analysis and just provide the rankings. Here they are: 1. Carolina Panthers (14-1) 2. Arizona Cardinals (13-2) 3. New England Patriots (12-3) 4. Denver Broncos (11-4) 5. Cincinnati Bengals (11-4) 6. Kansas City Chiefs (10-5) 7. New York Jets (10-5) 8. Green Bay Packers (10-5) 9. Minnesota Vikings (10-5) 10. What I learned in Week 16 of the NFL season...

In Week 16 of the NFL season, I learned... - ...some Washington politicians are now referring to themselves as Redskins to save themselves the embarrassment of having to tell people they're members of Congress. - ...Marcus Mariota and Chip Kelly are asking if it's possible to be traded to Oregon before the start of next season. - ...if Johnny Manziel is caught drinking wine at church for communion, it will cause a media uproar. - ...a team of actual dolphins could currently defeat the Miami Dolphins in a game of football on land. - ...even Jerry Jones could pull off a mime costume on Halloween, if in front of the media for 10 minutes after the Cowboys' 11th loss of the season. - ..., in allowing just one touchdown to the Carolina Panthers, the Atlanta Falcons defense is obviously anti-giving kids footballs. - ...Aaron Rodgers may start shouting, "Mad blitz double-check," before raising his hands in the air while sitting on his backside. - ...the NY

Week 17 NFL Predictions

Sunday Game: NY Jets at Buffalo Prediction: Buffalo - The New York Jets are flying high coming off their win over the New England Patriots this past weekend, are talked about as one of the hottest teams in football, and a scary team come playoff time. How much would former Jets head coach Rex Ryan like to spoil his old team's playoff fortunes with an upset win at home? I look for the Bills to come out with an extra fire in this game and for the Jets to come back down to earth in a low-scoring Buffalo victory. Bills by 4. Result: Buffalo 22 NY Jets 17 Record: 1-0 Game: New England at Miami Prediction: New England - The way Miami's playing right now, I couldn't see them defeating a middle school team from Waterloo, Nebraska, let alone the New England Patriots. I'll take the Pats by at least 10. Result: Miami 20 New England 10 Record: 1-1 Game: New Orleans at Atlanta Prediction: Atlanta - Even following Atlanta's upset win over then unbeaten Carol

Trump supporter: "You're anti-white!"

As I often do on Twitter anymore, I was busy poking fun of Donald Trump last night. One of the top trending hashtags was #5WordTrumpSlogans. I posted approximately ten such hashtags, one of which was, "Offending Everyone Without Any Consequences." To this, I heard from a self-described constitutional conservative, who said, "They only people offended are anti-white #RadicalMarxists like you," later adding, "Anti-white muslim supporters." That's right, ladies and gentlemen; I've been busted. As a white person myself, I'm apparently anti-white, and therefore anti-self. Yes, it perplexes me as well... It's ironically hilarious this man describes himself as a constitutional conservative, yet labels me as anti-white and pro-Muslim, for while I don't adhere to any religion myself, I believe everyone has the constitutional right to believe in whatever faith they so choose, including Christians, and yes, Muslims. Apparently, this constituti

Kudos to ESPN's Ian O'Connor

I was going to write about this earlier, but having read ESPN senior writer Ian O'Connor's recent article, it appears as if he took the words out of my mouth with regard to the Odell Beckham Jr. situation and I thought I'd share that. Having watched a good chunk of the Carolina Panthers/New York Giants game on Sunday, I was both befuddled and slightly irritated to hear so many sports analysts and columnists place the full blame on 2nd year Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. for the, at times, ugly skirmishes during the Panthers' 38-35 victory. Granted, it appeared as if Beckham definitely lost his cool for a while, he was rightly flagged on three separate occasions, and deserved both a fine and a one-game suspension for his unruly and potentially dangerous behavior. Having said all that, though, let's not pretend Carolina Panthers' defensive backs Josh Norman and Cortland Finnegan were completely innocent here. Before the game even started, Norman allegedl

Happy Holidays!

I'm going to attempt to add a couple of writings before I leave town this afternoon, but I still have other things to get done in the meantime, so we'll see what happens on that front. In any case, I wanted to wish all of my readers a very safe and joyous Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa and New Year! I'll be back before too long, so I'll be sure to chime in again before the clock strikes midnight at the start of 2016! Have a great end to your year, a great start to 2016, and hopefully, no matter how you fared in 2015, 2016 is an even brighter, better chapter in your lives!

Week 16 NFL Predictions

Thursday Game: San Diego at Oakland Prediction: Oakland - San Diego played arguably their best football game of the season in their 30-14 win over Miami on Sunday. However, to say the Dolphins didn't come to play would be like to say there are times Bernie Sanders' hair is reminiscent of Doc Brown from Back to the Future . I'd like to believe the young Raiders, at home, will play more inspired football. I'll take Oakland by a field goal. Result: Oakland 23 San Diego 20 OT Record: 1-0 Saturday Game: Washington at Philadelphia Prediction: Philadelphia - Washington scored late to beat Philly at home earlier in the season. For as wacky as the NFC East has been this year, I have a difficult time seeing it get clinched before Week 17. I'll go with the Eagles at home by 4. Result: Washington 38 Philadelphia 24 Record: 1-1 Sunday Game: New England at NY Jets Prediction: This was a tough game for me to pick. It's huge for both teams, as the Jets n

My NFL Power Rankings (through Week 15)

Due to going out of town for Christmas, I'll have to bypass my typical more thorough analysis of each team. Here are my rankings: 1) Carolina Panthers (14-0) 2) Arizona Cardinals (12-2) 3) New England Patriots (11-3) 4) Cincinnati Bengals (11-3) 5) Denver Broncos (10-4) 6) Green Bay Packers (10-4) 7) Seattle Seahawks (9-5) 8) Pittsburgh Steelers (9-5) 9) Kansas City Chiefs (9-5) 10) New York Jets (9-5) 11) Minnesota Vikings (9-5) 12) Washington Redskins (7-7) 13) Houston Texans (7-7) 14) Atlanta Falcons (7-7) 15) New York Giants (6-8) 16) Buffalo Bills (6-8) 17) St. Louis Rams (6-8) 18) Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6-8) 19) Philadelphia Eagles (6-8) 20) Oakland Raiders (6-8) 21) Indianapolis Colts (6-8) 22) Detroit Lions (5-9) 23) Jacksonville Jaguars (5-9) 24) New Orleans Saints (5-9) 25) Miami Dolphins (5-9) 26) Chicago Bears (5-9) 27) Dallas Cowboys (4-10) 28) San Francisco 49ers (4-10) 29) Baltimore Ravens (4-10) 30) San Dieg

What I learned in Week 15 of the NFL season...

In Week 15 of the NFL season, I learned... - ...(Kellen) Moore is now less in Dallas. - ...Josh Norman and Odell Beckham Jr. will likely square off in a pay-per-view fight in the offseason, tentatively titled, "Cat Fights But With Helmets." - ..., leading his team to a 7-7 campaign and first place standing in the NFC East, Kirk Cousins is continuing to "like that" a great deal. - ...there are times the Miami Dolphins seriously believe they are playing in water. - ...DeMarco Murray's butt is still numb 36 hours after sitting on the bench, and will be asking Santa for a buttwarmer for Christmas. - ...the Denver Broncos offense is starting a petition to condense the games from 60 to 30 minutes. - ...Johnny Manziel may have asked Russell Wilson to be his full-time DD in the offseason. - ...Da Bears have already begun hibernating and may not return for at least another year. - ...the San Diego Chargers will implement the quarterback-recovering-a-fum

30% of Republicans want to bomb a fictional place

Public Policy Polling (PPP) released an interesting finding today. It's funny; just yesterday I wrote about how sick and tired I was with the right's paranoid let's-bomb-them-all-before-they-bomb-us mentality. Well, according to PPP's latest finding, it does appear a decent percentage of Republicans would be in favor of bombing just about anything. According to this poll, it found that 30% of Republicans would be in favor of bombing Agrabah - a fictional city in Disney's Aladdin . Here's how the complete poll numbers to that question break down by party: Q: "Would you be in favor of bombing Agrabah?" Republicans: 30% approve/13% disapprove (net +17%) Democrats: 19% approve/36% disapprove (net -17%) No, I'm not making up those numbers... Due to the results of this poll, expect to see the following poll results at some point in the future: - 78% of Republicans don't feel the Hunchback of Notre Dame's healthcare plan should include

My Bowl Picks

I'd like to provide further reasoning and analysis with my picks, but am a bit strapped for time at the moment, so we'll see if I'm able to do that in the coming days. For the time being, though, here are my picks for the 40 (yes, 40) college football bowl games (straight up/spread not considered): Cure Bowl San Jose State (5-7, -4.5) vs. Georgia State (6-6) Dec. 19 at 12 p.m. (CBSSN) in Orlando, FL Result: San Jose State 27 Georgia State 16 Record: 0-1 New Mexico Bowl Arizona (6-6, -10.0) vs. New Mexico (7-5) Dec. 19 at 2 p.m. (ESPN) in Albuquerque, NM Result: Arizona 45 New Mexico 37 Record: 1-1 Las Vegas Bowl BYU (9-3) vs. Utah (9-3, -2.5) Dec. 19 at 3:30 p.m. (ABC) in Las Vegas, NV Result: Utah 35 BYU 28 Record: 1-2 Camellia Bowl Ohio (8-4) vs. Appalachian State (10-2, -9.5) Dec. 19 at 5:30 p.m. (ESPN) in Montgomery, AL Result: Appalachian State 31 Ohio 29 Record: 2-2 New Orleans Bowl Arkansas State (9-3) vs. Louisiana Tech (8-4, -1.0) Dec.

Why are sports fans obsessed with impossible hypotheticals?

In a recent airing of ESPN Radio's Waddle & Silvy show, former NBA great and current NBA analyst Charles Barkley had this to say about the 25-1 and defending champion Golden State Warriors: "That Bulls team would kill this little team. Come on, man. Who is going to guard Scottie Pippen and Michael Jordan? What about Dennis Rodman?" He added: "Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen and Dennis Rodman -- let me just start with those three. First of all they would love playing the way the Warriors play. It's a much easier game now. Could you imagine how many points Michael would average if you couldn't touch him? Dennis would get so many rebounds against that team. They are a very small team." I'm sorry, but isn't this kind of silly? Why do so many sports fans find it necessary to debate impossible hypotheticals? It'd be one thing to ponder about and debate hypotheticals of a single season. In college football this year, it made sense to ask,

Kudos to New York Representative Richard Hanna!

As the Republican Party veers further and further to the right, I find myself disagreeing with them more by the day. However, when one such politician goes against the grain and risks his/her political livelihood in order to stand up for what's right, I'll be the first one to acknowledge and thank them for doing so. That brings me to New York Representative Richard Hanna, a Republican, who recently said the following on the Keeler in the Morning radio show with regard to Planned Parenthood: "Do you really want women not to have access to health care? And do you believe in a woman's right to have domain over her own body, or the government's?" He added, "If Republicans are able to successfully outlaw abortion, it would have dire consequences. Do you really want it to go to back rooms?" This wasn't the first time the New York representative spoke out against his party veering too far to the right. In September, he was one of only three Hous

Texas elected official Sid Miller is asking for it...

Some people are taking this "War on Christmas" thing way too far. Take Texas agriculture commissioner Sid Miller for example. The Republican elected official recently wrote this on his Facebook page: "People must say Merry Christmas to me or nothing at all. If one more person says Happy Holidays to me I just might slap them. Either tell me Merry Christmas or just don't say anything." With these comments, he included a picture of a cowboy on a horse, with pharmacy sign reading, "We Will Never Take Christ Out Of Christmas." No, the pagan roots of the holiday wasn't taking "Christ out of Christmas." Jesus' birthday not being on December 25th wasn't taking "Christ out of Christmas." The holiday becoming increasingly more commercialized by the year wasn't taking "Christ out of Christmas." Yet people telling one another "Happy Holidays" has been ultimately responsible for taking "Christ out of Ch

Trump's health is frickin' unbelievable!

Donald Trump's doctor, Harold Bornstein, recently released the GOP presidential frontrunner's medical report, and I felt the need to share it with readers. Apparently, when one hangs around The Donald enough, he/she starts speaking like him. Here's the medical report, and no, this is not an Onion article: "To Whom My Concern:  I have been the personal physician of Mr. Donald J. Trump since 1980. His previous physician was my father, Dr. Jacob Bornstein. Over the past 39 years, I am pleased to report that Mr. Trump has no significant medical problems. Mr. Trump has had a recent complete medical examination that showed only positive results. Actually, his blood pressure, 110/65, and laboratory test results were astonishingly excellent. Over the past twelve months, he has lost at least fifteen pounds. Mr. Trump takes 81 mg of aspirin daily and a low dose of statin. His PSA test score is 0.15 (very low). His physical strength and stamina are extraordinary. Mr. Trum

Solar farms would do what, Woodland, North Carolina?!?

The small town of Woodland, North Carolina has been in the news quite a bit lately. After Woodland's town council voted 3-1 against a proposal to rezone land for a solar farm, citizens were asked how they felt about the ruling, with a few providing some rather interesting comments, such as: "[The solar farms would] suck up all the energy from the sun" and "[Solar farms] could cause cancer." Even crazier still, the latter of the two comments came from a retired science teacher. No, I'm not kidding.  The story can be read here: http://www.fox46charlotte.com/news/local-news/57716124-story The before-mentioned citizens' responses left me speechless, so I'll end this by sharing a humorous clip regarding the matter courtesy of Comedy Central's The Nightly Show : http://www.cc.com/video-clips/qlifgp/the-nightly-show-with-larry-wilmore-that-s-not-science---solar-farm-fears

ESPN takes Mike Pettine out of context

Maybe it's due to the holiday season quickly approaching us (and being lazy in the process), but I've witnessed an increasing number of misleading and/or out-of-context headlines over the past couple weeks. The latest of which comes to us courtesy of ESPN, which published the following headline this morning: "Mike Pettine: I respect Russell Wilson, but QB not in top tier." Here's how ESPN staff writer Pat McManamon starts his piece: "Cleveland Browns coach Mike Pettine doesn't consider Russell Wilson of the Seattle Seahawks among the top three or four quarterbacks in the NFL.
