"The Tracy & Craig Show" is back! (today at 4 pm EST)

Largely due to my co-host dealing with some health issues, we've had to take a bit of a break from our podcast, The Tracy & Craig Show . While she's slowly recovering, we're going to try and gradually work our way back into our old routine, starting today. From 4 to 5 pm EST, you can check us out at the following link: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/thetracyfortshow/2017/04/26/tracy-craig-bring-you-the-best-in-politics

Trebek: "Total disaster." What is Trump's AP interview?

Donald Trump has never been known as an eloquent speaker, but even for him, his recent interview with the Associated Press was something special. Here are my ten favorite quotes from that interview, followed by my personal comments: "So the Republican Party has various groups, all great people. They're all great people. But some are moderate, some are very conservative. The Democrats don't seem to have that nearly as much. You know the Democrats have, they don't have that. The Republicans do have that. And I think it's fine. But you know there's a pretty vast area in there. And I have a great relationship with all of them. Now, we have government not closing. I think we'll be in great shape on that. It's going very well. Obviously, that takes precedent." While Bill Clinton infamously asked the question, "What is 'is'?" I'm now going to ask The Donald, "What is 'that'?" "But President Xi, from the t

Sorry, Federalist Writer, There Is Such A Thing As Hate Speech

John Daniel Davidson, writer at the far-right website The Federalist , just released an article entitled, "Sorry, College Kids, There's No Such Thing As Hate Speech," and I felt the need to rebut. In the article, while Davidson made some fair points, especially with regard to the seeming irony of violence at hate-speech rallies, he lost me with his claim that there's no such thing as hate speech, yet he feels liberals define hate speech as any opinion which runs contrary to theirs. Here's what he had to say specifically on the matter: "By hate speech, they (liberals) mean ideas and opinions that run afoul of progressive pieties. Do you believe abortion is is the taking of human life? That's hate speech. Think transgenderism is a form of mental illness? Hate speech. Concerned about illegal immigration? Believe in the right to bear arms? Support President Donald Trump? All hate speech. But in fact, there is no 'hate speech' exception to the Firs

San Antonio Mayor Ivy Taylor is apparently omniscient...

San Antonio Democratic Mayor Ivy Taylor recently made a statement which I felt the need to quickly rebut. When asked of the reason for poverty in her area, she said: "To me, it's broken people. People not being in a relationship with their Creator, and therefore, not being in good relationship with their families and their communities, and not being productive members of society. I think that's the ultimate answer..." No, I think the ultimate answer is if Mayor Ivy Taylor feels that helping those in poverty is out of her control, she shouldn't hold political office. Whether she cares to believe this or not, everyone in this country is afforded the right to believe (or not believe) in whatever entity they so choose. Just because a person is a Muslim, it doesn't assert that he or she is or isn't close with their family. Just because a person is a Christian, it doesn't assert that he or she is or isn't close with their community. Just because a pe

We've reached the point where we feel the need to march for facts

Over the weekend, March For Science protests were being held all across the country. At first glance, I thought to myself, "Hell yeah! I always march for science too!" Not a moment later, however, I thought to myself, "Wait, we're now marching for facts? Isn't that quite the sad turn of events?" Most of the time, people march or protest based on a strong opinion they share on an issue. Whether it be women's rights, immigration reform, gay marriage rights, stricter gun legislation, etc., these aren't black-and-white issues, where one side is necessarily 100% right, the other side 100% wrong. As the Constitution declares, we all have the right to possess and share our opinions on these topics and an array of others. In saying that, however, have we really reached the point where we feel the need to march or protest based on certified facts? Sadly, it seems so. While I'm not a religious man, I pray these trends change, so I never have to see peopl

Liberal purists are hurting the Democratic Party

I don't officially affiliate myself with either political party. If I were to label myself, I'd say I'm a liberal/progressive Independent. However, given the limited options on election day, I tend to vote Democratic. In saying all of that, I think liberal purists are hurting the Democratic Party. As a liberal who tends to vote Democrat, I think fellow progressives need to step back for a moment, take a deep breath, and come to the realization that we don't want to follow a similar path as Republicans have over the past couple of decades. Over the past 20+ years, with the help of Fox News, talk radio, and now the Internet, the Republican Party has been increasingly trending right. Progressive Republicans have gone the way of the dodo bird; moderate Republicans have been placed on the endangered species list; and the GOP has seemingly reached the point where, if an aspiring Congressional member of the party doesn't keep in lockstep with the party's leaders on e

On the "first 100 days" marker, I agree with Trump for a change, but there is a catch...

Over the weekend, Donald Trump called the "first 100 days" marker ridiculous, and he's right. Especially in today's heated political climate, where the two sides in Congress can compromise about as well as a grizzly and a fish, the "first 100 days" market isn't a fair nor a realistic marker for any president. However, in saying that, Donald Trump can't have it both ways, which makes him sound even more ridiculous than the marker he claims to be such. Throughout his campaign, then candidate Trump made more first-100-days promises than China has people, so how can he be surprised when he gets called out for these failed promises? Repeal and replace "Obamacare"? Hasn't happened. Tax reform? Hasn't happened. Fund and build "the wall"? Again, hasn't happened. Not only has Trump failed to deliver on his first-100-days campaign promises, he just recently said that, through the first 90 days, his administration has accomplis

"Get Out" to the theatre and see this movie!

Over the weekend I was fortunate enough to see the Jordan Peele film, "Get Out" - a dark horror comedy which provides rarities for any film in horror genre: Good acting, an intriguing plot, and a social message. I may need to see this movie again to garner a clearer understanding of what Peele's true intentions were with it, but just based on my first viewing, here are a few of my thoughts. While I'll likely need to see the film again to decide whether or not all the different themes Peele tackled tie in with one another, two of the biggest themes were slavery and racism, without question. Peele attempts to provide us the vantage point of a young and realistic black man whose world collides with that of a liberal white family which is ignorant of African-Americans' history and lives in the present, The family has workers around the home who are all black, claim they'd vote Obama for a third term if they had the chance, and even insinuate that blacks are inna

There's a reason why they're free...

Largely due to health complications, I've been out of the dating game for a while. I just recently decided to put myself out there once again courtesy of a pair of dating sites. When deciding which dating sites to peruse, I thought to myself, "Why waste my money on the Match.coms and eHarmonys of the world when I can get the same service for free on OKCupid and Plenty of Fish?" Now that I've been on the latter-mentioned sites for 4-5 weeks, I'm starting to think there may be a stark difference between these free sites and the pricier ones. Of the two, I prefer OKCupid by leaps and bounds over Plenty of Fish. However, there are three major problems with OKCupid: 1) The site is virus-prone, 2) It seems as though half the members are affiliated with porn sites, and 3) There's a decent chance you'll get temporarily suspended for nothing at all. I'm lucky I have security on this computer, for if I hadn't, I would have contracted a virus via OKCupid.

When to give unwanted advice to a complete stranger...

As long-time readers know, for whatever reason, strange occurrences seem to follow me wherever I go, especially when I venture to a bar. The same was true last night. Not 30 minutes after I sat down, I was asked by a semi-acquaintance, "Why do so many people think you're gay?" To this, I calmly relayed all the theories I've heard from others regarding the matter: "Because you're always respectful toward women," "You've turned many women's propositions down," "You're 36, not married, and without any kids," "No guy so nice, funny, smart, and cute could be single and straight," "You're a liberal who likes poetry and foreign films," etc. She then responded, "No offense, but if you were gay, I'd think you'd have better fashion sense. I even asked someone a while ago if they thought you'd be at all bothered if I took you jeans shopping." I provided a perplexed look in return, c

(Roger L.) Simon Says...Something Stupid

Novelist and screenwriter Roger L. Simon just recently published an article I felt the need to rebut. It was published by the far right-wing media outlet PJ Media  and entitled, "Trump Will Win Bigly in 2020." Yes, it only gets better from there... Simon starts his piece with this: "I have bad news for the mainstream media and the Democrats. Time to stock up on absinthe or hightail it down to the medical marijuana store -- Donald Trump is going to be president for eight years. Not only that, he will win reelection much more comfortably, easily winning the popular vote as well as the electoral college." We are just 3 months into Donald Trump's first term in the Oval Office; that's 1/16 of the 4 years he's been elected to serve as President of the United States. No matter which side of the fence one may be positioned, it'd be utterly ridiculous to predict an outright victory or defeat for Donald Trump in the 2020 election. First off, we still hav

Working on a new book

The reason for the delay in blog posts over the past few days is the fact I'm hard at work on a new book. It will be the shortest of all my books, I will be entering it into a contest for $20,000, and hope to have it available for purchase in the next month. Well, speaking of which, I better get back to working on it. I just thought I'd update my regular readers on why I've been posting fewer blogs over the past week. Hopefully I'll be able to provide you a great deal of new reading material soon!

The 20-year anniversary of when I started getting serious about writing

Not many people know this, but February 8th of 1997 is the day I officially got serious about writing. Yes, it pains me to say that this occurred 20 years ago, yet it helps me to reflect and think about all the progressions I've made in the past two decades. I was 15 years old on this day (16 on February 28th), a sophomore in high school, and slowly evolving from an extreme introvert to the extroverted introvert I am today, from a die-hard Christian to an agnostic/humanist, from indifferent and ignorant on the world of politics to passionate and progressive. The artist which most helped me to accept myself as I was, including my perhaps atypical imagination, was Marilyn Manson, and on February 8th of 1997, I bought four tickets to see this controversial shock artist with three of my friends in the extremely conservative state of Nebraska. Just a few days before the show, then Republican Omaha Mayor Hal Daub went on the air discouraging parents from allowing their kids to attend t

"Jeffery" is the "Lord" of dumbassery

While I agree that every person should be afforded the right to possess and share their opinions, why does it seem cable news networks and talk radio programs hire the loudest, craziest individuals to share their insane viewpoints? Case and point, Jeffrey Lord of CNN. The cable news network's political commentator and Donald Trump butt-wiper just recently compared Donald Trump to Martin Luther King. His full quote is as follows: "Think of President Trump as the Martin Luther King of healthcare. When I was a kid, President Kennedy did not want to introduce the civil rights bill because he said it wasn't popular, he didn't have the votes for it, et cetera. Dr. King kept putting people in the streets in harm's way to put the pressure on so that the bill would be introduced. That's what finally worked." Apparently, Jeffrey Lord knows comparisons and logic about as well as Beethoven knew disco. Martin Luther King fought to provide millions of people with eq

Ron Burgundy + Biff Tannen + The Dude = Donald Trump

Is it just me or does Donald Trump come across as a hybrid of the cinema characters Ron Burgundy (from Anchorman ), Biff Tannen (from Back to the Future ), and The Dude (from The Big Lebowski )? Like Burgundy, it appears as though Trump will read anything that's placed in front of him. Like Biff, The Donald seems to believe he can bully anyone into getting his way. Lastly, like The Dude, the president comes across as a man without the largest vocabulary in the world, often repeating himself time and time again. Allow me to test that theory by writing a Trump speech using only quotes from the three before-mentioned characters. We'll see how this goes... Donald Trump: "I don't know how to put this but I'm kind of a big deal. People know me. I was one of the original authors of the Port Huron Declaration. Not the compromised second draft... Don't act like you're not impressed. What are you looking at, butthead? Look at him. He's a butthead just like his

"The Truman Show" starring Donald Trump

"This is Wolf Blitzer in the Situation Room, bringing situations you wouldn't normally be having in your room, in your room. We just received live breaking news here at CNN, as it appears O.J. Simpson is attempting to reenact scenes from Die Hard movies in downtown New York City. Apparently he's an incredibly bad shot, as no one has been injured or killed by his gunshots to this point. As you can see, the NYPD is doing everything in their power to not let O.J. have his 'yippee ki-yay' moment. It looks as if O.J. has run out of bullets and is running! He was just handed a football! The NYPD is coming after him! Oh, I'm being told we're going to break from this for a moment. We'll get you back to that as soon as we can, but as you can see, Donald Trump is about to tie his shoes. Oh, he's having a little bit of trouble with that right one, isn't he? There's that shake of the head, a heavy sigh. Okay, he's done the right one. Onto the left.

Trump promises to bring back VCR jobs

After promising to bring back jobs in the coal-mining industry, jobs which have been on the decline for the past three decades, President Donald Trump continued his push forward by turning to the past by saying he was also going to bring back VCR-related jobs, jobs which have pretty much gone the way of the Dodo bird. In his nationally televised speech on Wednesday night, Trump said the following: "When I said I was going to bring back jobs that don't exist anymore and make America great again, I meant every word of that, believe me! I already told coal miners about the invisible jobs I'll be giving them. In a week or two, I'll be telling the world about my plan to bring back telegraph jobs. It's gonna be terrific, just fantastic, people! Today, though, I'm gonna tell you about a new, a new old industry I'm gonna bring back. Not only will we have coal-mining and telegraph-type jobs again, but I'm bringing back VCR jobs! I'm not sure anyone owns th

Trump names May National Monogamy Appreciation month

Following his announcement to make April National Sexual Assault Awareness month, 20+-time alleged sexual predator Donald Trump decided to declare May National Monogamy Appreciation month. The thrice married president, who has admitted to cheating on all three of his wives, had this to say regarding the matter: "I am hereby calling the month of May the National Mano, Mono, Monogamy Appreciation month. I'll just call it mono from this point forward. Mono is very important to marriage. All three of my wives thought I had mono, but they were mistaken. It's like I've always said, to make a marriage work, you need three things: 1) Sex, 2) Lots of money, 3) A beautiful piece of ass, and 4) Mono. You can't spell marriage without mono . Fact! Google it! So guys, this coming May, be sure to give all your wives mono. They will bigly appreciate it, believe me!" Not long after this statement was made, rumors began circulating that Trump meant to say mahogany , the mon

With his approval numbers dropping, Trump takes credit for Obamacare

In a surprising turn of events, President Donald Trump, with his approval rating at a measly 34%, the Affordable Care Act (ACA) at a record high approval rating of 55%, and Congressional Republicans' seeming inability to pass an ACA replacement bill, decided to take full credit for Obamacare this morning in a series of tweets: Donald J. Trump‏ @realDonaldTrump 1h "ObamaCare here to stay, only better. I'm calling it Better Than ObamaCare (BTO)" Donald J. GOP shocks the world by saying witnesses were of greater importance than Jesus' crucifixion

Showing consistency for the first time in decades and shocking the world in the process, the Republican Party, segueing from their belief that Donald Trump's Russia leaks were of greater importance than the potential criminal activity contained within those leaks, they today said, at Jesus' crucifixion, witnesses were of greater importance than their savior's sacrifice. South Carolina Representative Trey Gowdy led the charge, saying the following in an interview with MSNBC's Chuck Todd: "As everyone knows, I love Jesus. I will always cherish what he did for me and my family by sacrificing his life so that we could live for all eternity. But his death, sacrifice, rising again, and saving all of humanity shouldn't be our focal point here. Our focus should be on the people who saw him do this and spread the word of the huge event to others. They're the real heroes. If it weren't for their eyes seeing and their mouths sharing what had happened, Jesus woul

Eric Bolling once again proves himself to be an idiot

April Fools' Day may have been yesterday and only be celebrated once a year, but co-host of Fox News' The Five , Eric Bolling, seems to practice the holiday on any day ending in -y . On a recent episode of The Five , Bolling, along with fellow co-hosts Dana Perino, Greg Gutfeld, and Juan Williams got into the following discussion: Bolling: "The first quarter in the books yesterday or today, right?
