"CSA: The Confederate States Of America"

- "'C.S.A.' tells a counter-story of how slavery survives to the present day-and it uses traces of contemporary pop culture to show that the notion isn't really even such a stretch." - Richard Brody ( New Yorker ) - "A piece of well-crafted righteous indignation." - Ann Hornaday ( Washington Post ) - "By slyly nudging both history and the language of television, this mock documentary about an America won by the Confederacy ... manages to be both shocking and strangely banal in equal measure." - Geoff Pevere ( Toronto Star ) - "A sometimes incisive, sometimes amateurish look at race in America, the things we do and tolerate as a nation that are really no different from an America ruled by unrepentant slave-holders." - Roger Moore ( Orlando Sentinel ) - "[Writer/Director] Willmott could have easily stumbled over his own cleverness but, as with the rest of the movie, his fantasia is intellectually rigorous and makes for stim

Why Michael Vick is both right and wrong about Colin Kaepernick

Former #1 draft pick and human highlight reel, Michael Vick, recently came under some scrutiny due to advice he provided former Super Bowl quarterback Colin Kaepernick. During an interview with Jason Whitlock on Fox Sports's Speak for Yourself , Vick said: "The first thing we've got to get Colin to do is cut his hair. Listen, I'm not up here trying to be politically correct. Even if he put cornrows in there, I don't think he should represent himself in that way, in terms of just the hairstyle. Just go clean-cut, you know, why not? You're already dealing with a lot, a lot of controversy surrounding this issue, and the most important thing he needs to do is just try to be presentable." The former Pro Bowl quarterback added: "The gesture he made last year he took the stand to do what he did, listen, we all appreciated it, we respected it, and it was a good thing. I really think the stand that he took has nothing to do with him not having a job pl

Life has been crazy lately...

I'm sorry for the lack of posts recently. I was in Michigan a week/week and a half ago for a cousin's high school graduation party. My brother, sister-in-law, and niece flew in from Omaha, and then traveled back to Ohio, before heading back home yesterday. So I've hardly had time to breathe, let alone write. Things should be a little calmer around the area starting tomorrow, though, so I'm hoping I'll be able to get back into a good, regular flow, release another book or two before too terribly long, and explore some options as far as podcasts are concerned. Thanks for your patience. I haven't forgotten about you. Be expecting some new writings very soon!

Dear GOPers: Obamacare is NOT the problem; the problem is you!

Ever since then President Barack Obama signed the Affordable Care Act (AKA Obamacare), the Republican Party has made it their #1 goal to destroy the healthcare reform law before it has the opportunity to achieve success. Congressional Republicans filled the airwaves with lies about the ACA - anything from it including "death panels" to it being a government takeover and beyond. While all these egregious misstatements were called out by fact-checkers, sadly, the GOPers' heated rhetoric, at least temporarily, got the best of Democrats' even-keeled tone and fact-checking. This led to a majority of the country disapproving of the healthcare bill without knowing what was in it. Even today, a decent number of self-described Republicans believe that the Affordable Care Act and Obamacare are different laws, when in fact they're one and the same. This is what misinformation has done to this country, and ironically enough, the largest propagator of fake news is the Republic

Donald Trump: A Reflection of the GOP's Regression

Any time I hear a Republican sound surprised by the rise of Donald Trump within the GOP, I have to chuckle, for his ascendancy in the party didn't just happen overnight, and for as unintentional as it may have been, the president has become a direct reflection of decades worth of GOP regressions. The Republican Party used to be a respectable party. It was the party of Abraham Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, Dwight Eisenhower. It was a party that supported healthcare reform similar to the Affordable Care Act, a party that supported stricter gun laws, a party that supported higher taxes for the wealthy, a party that fought for the civil rights of all. Had I been alive in the days of Lincoln, I would have been a Republican, but it's not 1865 anymore. The GOP is no longer the party of Lincoln; it's the party of Trump, and with this new identity, the party has gone from respectable to contemptible, losing their sense of selves, and with that, the sense of what's best for the cou

When attempted cleverness and typos collide

As anyone who puts their pants on one leg at a time should know by now, I often times write and talk about current events, especially when it comes to the world of politics. Based on the current definitions of the terms, most people view me as an uber-liberal Democrat, but I view myself as a pragmatic progressive independent who leans Democrat. I didn't come to be this way because of parental influence. My father's always been an independent, has voted every such way, and while he may be progressive at his core, he never talked politics to my brother or I when we were growing up. His side of the family leaned Democrat, but rarely ever spoke about politics when my brother or I were around during the holidays. My mother's side of the family, on the other hand, has leaned Republican, has been more outspoken about their political beliefs, but outside of her since passed father, they've tried to stray away from such discussions when my brother and I have been in town. My mot

GOP: "You don't need no education!"

The Pew Research Center just released some poll results which were rather troubling, but sadly unsurprising. In this survey, 2,000 people were asked how they felt about different institutions and whether they had a positive or negative effect on the country. Here's how the results turned out: Churches, religious organizations Republicans: 73% positive/14% negative (net +59%) Democrats: 50/36 (+14%) Banks/Financial institutions Republicans: 46/37 (+9%) Democrats: 33/54 (-21%) Labor unions Republicans: 33/46 (-13%) Democrats: 59/22 (+37%) The national news media Republicans: 10/85 (-75%) Democrats: 44/46 (-2%) Colleges and universities Republicans: 36/58 (-22%) Democrats: 72/19 (+53%) The two sets of numbers which stand out the most are with regard to the GOP's views on college and the media. In my opinion, the Democrats' numbers with regard to the media are rather understandable. If someone were to ask me what I felt the effects were of the national new

Two new reviews for my book, "The Art of the Steal"

I just received two 5-star reviews for my latest book, The Art of the Steal . The two reviewers wrote as follows:  1) Headline: "It's ridiculous yet pretty accurate. Can't wait to read his other books" Review: "This was one of the funniest books I've read in awhile. It's ridiculous yet pretty accurate. Can't wait to read his other books!" 2) Headline: "Another Winner!" Review: "I loved Orange is the New Crazy and same for Art of the Steal. Both are timely, funny and quick reads. This is Congress's big chance

Based on a series of polls that were released last week, one thing's for certain about the Senate's proposed health care plan - the people don't much care for Trumpcare. In a USA TODAY/Suffolk University poll, it showed that just 12% of Americans approve of the Senate's "Obamacare" repeal-and-replace bill. That's not a typo - just over 1 in 10 Americans like the Senate's health care plan. Meanwhile 53% believe we should either keep the Affordable Care Act as it is or make some changes while keeping its framework. In addition to that, 77% believe it's "very important" to cover people with pre-existing conditions, 63% feel similarly about providing Medicaid options to those whom are eligible, and 57% believe it's "very important" to lower premiums. The GOP had 7 years. For 7 years, the GOP ran on the platform that they'd repeal and replace the evil "Obamacare." For 7 years, they tried defunding the ACA. For 7

Rick Perry talks earth-sizing

At a press conference yesterday, Secretary of Energy Rick Perry raised some eyebrows when he shared his doubts about the earth being round, saying this:  "I've just gotta get this out there. I'm getting sick and tired of scientists and experts and people who know what they're talking about telling me that it's for certain the earth is round. They call us skeptics, round skeptics or whatever. They act like this is fact, but is it? Is it really? How would we know unless we drove from one end of the earth to the other? Who's done that? Nobody! So how do we know? Who has the time to do that anyway, you know? When you fly on a plane, does the stuff below you look round or flat? I've never been in space, but if I was, I'm told I'd see a flat earth in a circular shape. What about televisions? What's the latest thing? Roundscreens? No, it's flatscreens. Look, I'm not trying to be a conspiracy person, but I think we need to put to the side all

Donald Trump punches child, demands apology

At a rally in Yuma, Arizona yesterday, President Donald Trump came after a 10-year-old boy holding up a sign which read, "His Hands Are Smaller Than Mine!" When I say the president came after the 4th grader, I mean this literally, as the president, who kept referring to the boy as "Chico," left the stage, approached the boy, grabbed a hold of his sign, and when failing to tear it up, threw it to the ground, stomped upon it, and then punched little Antonio Alamo in the face, knocking the pre-pubescent boy out cold. After this occurred, the president raised his arms, asked for applause from the audience, before walking back to the mic and saying, "That's what I call a TIKO, folks, big league. That's how you get it done. If you mess with me, I mess with you. It's that simple. It's that simple. You may be strong, like little Chico over there, but I'm stronger. I guarantee it." After receiving almost universal backlash from the media, the
