That was quite a storm we had in Central Ohio over the weekend. There's a good reason I haven't blogged since then - the power and with it, internet access, has been out until just a day or two ago. There was a downpouring rain, many lightning strikes, hail which lasted between 5 and 10 minutes in duration and winds which exceeded 60 mph and in some cases 80 mph. Some roads were blocked off in the following days. Just about everywhere I go, I see branches or trees on the side of the road. It's been somewhat reminiscent of the storm which hit us after Hurricane Ike a few years ago. I read that a million people in the state were without power at some point and not everyone of them/us has power yet. Some may be without it until this coming weekend. Unfortunately, this coincided with record-breaking temperatures in what was a scorching end to June and now start to July. My thoughts go out to all those effected by this storm. Hopefully we don't see another one like it for the remainder of the summer.
I love music and enjoy hitting the bar(s) over the weekend, so naturally, when the mood strikes me, I've never been coy about playing some songs on the jukebox. This past Thursday, a friend of mine turned 50, so several friends of her's, including myself, all met up to celebrate the occasion. At around 9:30, a friend of mine and I both chipped in $5 to play some songs on the jukebox. Four hours and 231 skips later, we gave up on hearing the songs we had selected, and went home knowing we had just wasted $5. This wasn't the first time such a thing had happened to me (and many others), and due to that, I'll be boycotting jukeboxes. Why? The scam known as TouchTunes. You see, here's how the plot typically breaks down. A person (or group of people) downloads the TouchTunes app on his/her phone, consumes one too many adult beverages, and due to this, has less care for spending extra money to hear the songs of their choosing right NOW. That's the thing with TouchTun
