Donald Trump is not helping other GOP candidates appeal more to women

A recently released AP article, entitled, "Trump bombast overshadows GOP challenges with women," written by Steve Peoples and Lisa Lerer, misses the mark.

The article starts with this:

"When Jeb Bush said he wasn't sure the country needs to spend 'a half billion dollars for women's health issues,' many viewed the remark as a gaffe and the Republican candidate for president rushed to clean it up.

A week later, it's all but forgotten - thanks to Donald Trump."

Shortly thereafter, this is written:

"'Next to Trump, the other Republican candidates look like Gloria Steinem,' said Penny Young Nance, president of the conservative Concerned Women for America.

Amid a concern the Trump tsunami may be hurting the GOP's standing with women, there is also a worry for Democrats who initially viewed his rhetoric as a net positive for their party. Some now fear his bluster has made others in the GOP field appear moderate by comparison and could affect the party's ability to maintain a hold on a voting bloc that's probably critical to winning the White House."

I'm sorry, but this is just wishful thinking on Republicans' part and paranoia on Democrats' part. Donald Trump is currently leading the GOP pack in polls. If he's the party's nominee, there's no chance in hell he's going to win the women's vote, especially if he's forced to square off against Hillary Clinton, whom would become the first female president in this country's history. Sadly, Trump is more moderate on women's issues than most, if not all, the other Republican candidates. So, even if he's not the party's nominee, the Democratic nominee (and Democrats in general) will focus his or her attention on this very fact, saying, "You know how sexist and misogynistic Donald Trump appeared with his rhetoric and positions on women's rights? He's more moderate on women's issues than X (the Republican nominee)." In fact, if the GOP nominee doesn't wind up being Trump and I was the Democratic nominee, I'd work this angle hard.

I'd start the ad with the words, "You know how sexist and misogynistic Donald Trump has been?" across the center of the screen. I'd then feature Trump showcasing this with a few quotes, such as:

- "It must be a pretty picture, you dropping to your knees."

- "You know, it doesn't matter what the media writes as long as you've got a young and beautiful piece of ass."

- "You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes. Blood coming out of her wherever..."

- "I think Gloria (Allred) would be very very impressed with [my penis]."

- "Rosie O'Donnell is disgusting - both inside and out. If you take a look at her, she's a slob. How does she even get on television? If I were running The View, I'd fire Rosie. I'd look her right in that fat, ugly face of hers and say, 'Rosie, you're fired.' We're all a little chubby but Rosie's just worse than most of us. But it's not the chubbiness - Rosie is a very unattractive person, both inside and out."

Then, across the center of the screen, would be the words, "Yet Donald Trump is more moderate on women's issues than X (the Republican nominee)." I'd then list off some of the things the GOP nominee has done or said to either fight against or partially remove women's rights.

Lastly, I'd close the commercial by featuring the words, "So when you hear this," across the center of the screen, before again featuring Donald Trump uttering one of his sexist remarks, and then showcasing the words, "Just remember that he's more in favor of women's rights than X (GOP nominee). Vote Y (Democratic nominee), vote for women everywhere!"

So whether or not Donald Trump is the Republican nominee for the 2016 presidential election, he's only hurting the party's chances with women voters everywhere. His words may be offensive to most women, but not nearly as much as his Republican opponents' actions.

Boycotting jukeboxes because of TouchTunes

I love music and enjoy hitting the bar(s) over the weekend, so naturally, when the mood strikes me, I've never been coy about playing some songs on the jukebox. This past Thursday, a friend of mine turned 50, so several friends of her's, including myself, all met up to celebrate the occasion. At around 9:30, a friend of mine and I both chipped in $5 to play some songs on the jukebox. Four hours and 231 skips later, we gave up on hearing the songs we had selected, and went home knowing we had just wasted $5. This wasn't the first time such a thing had happened to me (and many others), and due to that, I'll be boycotting jukeboxes. Why? The scam known as TouchTunes. You see, here's how the plot typically breaks down. A person (or group of people) downloads the TouchTunes app on his/her phone, consumes one too many adult beverages, and due to this, has less care for spending extra money to hear the songs of their choosing right NOW. That's the thing with TouchTun...

Face guarding is legal in college football and the NFL

I just wanted to remind fans and announcers especially, that face guarding is legal in both college football and the NFL. It all comes down to contact. So long as a defender doesn't make contact with an intended receiver, he doesn't have to turn around to play the ball. I can't tell you how many times every week I hear announcers talk about face guarding being a penalty. It's not. I even heard one announcer yesterday state, "If the defender doesn't turn around and play the ball, the ref will call pass interference every time." That's simply not true. Courtesy of referee Bill LeMonnier, he says this with regard to the rule at the college level (answered on 8/12/13): "NCAA rules on pass interference require the face guarding to have contact to be a foul. No contact, no foul by NCAA rules." In the NFL rule book, this is written:  "Actions that constitute defensive pass interference include but are not limited to: (a) Contact by a ...
