Dumb post-Confederate flag take-down sign brought to you by Facebook

Not long after the Confederate flag was removed from the South Carolina state capitol, someone decided to write the following message on a sign outside their business and post it on Facebook:

"IN THE US YOU ARE FREE TO LIVE AS YOU WISH UNLESS YOU'RE WHITE, STRAIGHT, REPUBLICAN, A GUN OWNER OR SOUTHERN."

Sadly, this post has already been shared over 250,000 times, with one commenter responding, "...and Christian."

I'm sorry, but this is one of the dumbest signs I've ever read. Let me get this straight, the individual who posted this actually believes that minorities, homosexuals, Democrats, non-gun owners, and Northerners are free to live as they'd like, but whites, heterosexuals, Republicans, gun owners, and southerners are not; is that correct (along with over 250,000 others apparently)? Okay...

Here's how this sign reads to me:

- "In the US, former slaves are more free to live as they wish than their slave-owners."

- "In the US, homosexuals, who have been fired for being gay in several states, are more free to live as they wish than heterosexuals, who haven't been fired for their sexual orientation."

- "In the US, Democrats, who dominate among: Young adults, women, minorities, the non-religious, and the LGBT community, are more free to live their lives than: Adults, men, whites, Christians, and heterosexuals; even though women make $0.77 to the $1.00 that men do and hate-crime legislation has had to get passed to protect those whom don't classify themselves as straight white Christian males."

- "In the US, even though a gun-control group gave President Obama an 'F' grade, gun owners are still magically having their guns taken away from them by the government and are less free to live as they wish than the crazy non-gun owners who seem to always rush their children opposite us when we carry around assault rifles for the hell of it."

- "In the US, Northerners, who won the Civil War and led to us being the United States of America, are more free to live as they so choose than us Southerners, who are part of the same country, but can't seem to admit the fact we lost the war and aren't a separate country altogether."

- "In the US, even though 70% of the population describes themselves as Christian, since it's frowned upon for us to discriminate against gays and lesbians, condemn them to hell, and all of that good Godly stuff, it's becoming painfully obvious non-Christians are more free to live as they wish than Christians, because you know, we like to hate the queers. It's what Jesus would have done or something..."

Christians can still believe as they so choose. Southerners can still privately own and hang the Confederate flag if they so wish. It's becoming seemingly easier for anyone to purchase and own a gun. Heterosexuals are still free to marry a person of the opposite sex. Whites and Republicans (yes, slightly redundant) are free as well to believe what they'd like. The main reason why individuals, like the before-mentioned poster, feel their rights are being stripped from them is the fact that other demographics have slowly garnered equal rights as them in their own private lives and it's become increasingly more difficult to discriminate against anyone in a professional setting. Given that, the sign should really read, "IN THE US YOU ARE FREE TO LIVE AS YOU WISH UNLESS YOU DISCRIMINATE AT THE WORKPLACE OR INFLICT HARM UPON SOMEONE OUTSIDE OF IT - IN OTHER WORDS, UNLESS YOU'RE A COMPLETE AS*HOLE."

Boycotting jukeboxes because of TouchTunes

I love music and enjoy hitting the bar(s) over the weekend, so naturally, when the mood strikes me, I've never been coy about playing some songs on the jukebox. This past Thursday, a friend of mine turned 50, so several friends of her's, including myself, all met up to celebrate the occasion. At around 9:30, a friend of mine and I both chipped in $5 to play some songs on the jukebox. Four hours and 231 skips later, we gave up on hearing the songs we had selected, and went home knowing we had just wasted $5. This wasn't the first time such a thing had happened to me (and many others), and due to that, I'll be boycotting jukeboxes. Why? The scam known as TouchTunes. You see, here's how the plot typically breaks down. A person (or group of people) downloads the TouchTunes app on his/her phone, consumes one too many adult beverages, and due to this, has less care for spending extra money to hear the songs of their choosing right NOW. That's the thing with TouchTun

The difference between "looking" and "checking out"

I may be way off with these numbers, but it's my approximation that at least 75% of individuals whom are involved in a serious relationship feel it's perfectly acceptable to "check out" members of the opposite sex they're not involved with. Meanwhile, approximately 25% either don't feel this is acceptable or aren't sure about the matter. I hadn't thought about this matter for a while, but since I've been dating a woman for about 8 months, the topic has been pondered about some. When reading or hearing others discuss this very issue, I often times hear comments similar to the following: "It's human nature to look." "There's nothing wrong with checking others out. I'm sure he/she does it too!" "It's fine to do it. Just don't tell your boyfriend/girlfriend about it or do it in front of them!" "It's natural to find people attractive." When observing the array of comments, I i

The verdict is in. To no one's surprise, Jonathan Hoenig has been found guilty of being an idiot.

Just recently, when discussing the Michael Brown shooting and whether or not race had anything to do with it, Fox News contributor Jonathan Hoenig said, "You know who talks about race? Racists." One moment while I provide Mr. Hoenig with the well deserved slow-clap. :: slow-claps for two seconds :: So, that was quite the line by Mr. Hoenig, wasn't it? "You know who talks about race? Racists." Well, wasn't he just talking about race? So, by his own words, I guess that makes him a racist. Also, if he wants to be consistent, does this mean that people whom talk about gender are sexists and people whom talk about sexual orientation are homophobes? With that line of thinking, Hoenig would engage in the following back-and-forths: Hoenig: "So, who are you voting for?" A woman: "The Democratic candidate, because he's been adamant about his support for equal rights for women." Hoenig: "You sexist feminist nazi!"
