The Nonsensical: Patriarchy and Racism

Some things just don't make sense. As the saying goes, "Reality is stranger than fiction." One example of this is racism. Some hate and deem others as inferior due to their skin color. If we were all blind, this wouldn't be an issue, so why should it be if we have 20/20 vision? The Smurfs are blue. The Incredible Hulk is green. Do I hear anyone shouting discriminatory comments based on their skin color? No. So why, if fictional characters aren't judged on the color of their skin, should real people be judged on theirs? It's stupid and makes no sense.

You know what else doesn't make sense? Patriarchy. Sure, we in America like to parade ourselves as the land of opportunity, the land of freedom, the land of equality, but that's bullsh*t. Men rule; women take care of little ones who drool, or however that goes... Let's place this into the proper perspective. Women tend to make less than men before getting pregnant. Then they waddle around for 9 months as an alien grows inside them and isn't coy about throwing uppercuts to her bladder and other internal organs. After this large being exits a small hole between the woman's legs, pain, fatigue, and all, the mother then has to feed this baby via her increasingly sore nipples. When all is said and done and the woman wants to go back to work, the odds are in her favor that she'll make less than she had prior to the child's birth. If only us men had it so easy!

So why is it individuals with funny looking things between their legs tend to make more than those who don't, even when the two perform the same job with equal efficiency? Because they tend to have greater upper-body strength? Whoever says that, let's see a man go through the full pregnancy/birthing process and then get back to me. It makes absolutely zero sense to pay an inefficient employee a higher wage than an efficient one for any reason, especially because of their gender. Not only is it illogical and immoral, it's simply bad business. If employee A is better at the job than employee B, employee A should make more money than employee B. Gender is irrelevant. Period. It's about damn time employers treated their employees equally. It's logical, moral, and good business. If you fail to see that, just look your mother in the eyes and tell the person who gave birth to you those very words. We'll see what she has to say...

Boycotting jukeboxes because of TouchTunes

I love music and enjoy hitting the bar(s) over the weekend, so naturally, when the mood strikes me, I've never been coy about playing some songs on the jukebox. This past Thursday, a friend of mine turned 50, so several friends of her's, including myself, all met up to celebrate the occasion. At around 9:30, a friend of mine and I both chipped in $5 to play some songs on the jukebox. Four hours and 231 skips later, we gave up on hearing the songs we had selected, and went home knowing we had just wasted $5. This wasn't the first time such a thing had happened to me (and many others), and due to that, I'll be boycotting jukeboxes. Why? The scam known as TouchTunes. You see, here's how the plot typically breaks down. A person (or group of people) downloads the TouchTunes app on his/her phone, consumes one too many adult beverages, and due to this, has less care for spending extra money to hear the songs of their choosing right NOW. That's the thing with TouchTun...

Face guarding is legal in college football and the NFL

I just wanted to remind fans and announcers especially, that face guarding is legal in both college football and the NFL. It all comes down to contact. So long as a defender doesn't make contact with an intended receiver, he doesn't have to turn around to play the ball. I can't tell you how many times every week I hear announcers talk about face guarding being a penalty. It's not. I even heard one announcer yesterday state, "If the defender doesn't turn around and play the ball, the ref will call pass interference every time." That's simply not true. Courtesy of referee Bill LeMonnier, he says this with regard to the rule at the college level (answered on 8/12/13): "NCAA rules on pass interference require the face guarding to have contact to be a foul. No contact, no foul by NCAA rules." In the NFL rule book, this is written:  "Actions that constitute defensive pass interference include but are not limited to: (a) Contact by a ...
