An except from my book, "The Kind-Hearted Smarta*s: Vol. 2" (Fox News celebrates their annual War on Christmas)

Fox News celebrates their annual War on Christmas (on pages 137-139 in The Kind-Hearted Smarta*s: Volume 2 - The Wisecracks Continue ) According to Fox News and its followers, 2013 brought with it another year in the War on Christmas. From people abbreviating Christmas to Xmas, to "Merry Christmas" becoming "Happy Holidays," to Christmas trees being called holiday trees, the spirit of the Christmas season is obviously becoming no more. Christmas should be a time to celebrate family, tradition, commercialism, and the Jesus. Yes, we've taken the Christ out of Christmas, but not through silly symbolic measures such as abbreviations. No, if Fox News and the like want to go after people for waging a war against Christmas, perhaps they should look elsewhere, which this following story should illustrate: Setting: Outside of a Wal-Mart just before Black Friday begins ::Wal-Mart officially opens on Black Friday:: Cindy Christ: ::pushes people:: "Out of my way...

An excerpt from my book, "The Kind-Hearted Smarta*s: Vol. 2" (Congress Getting Drunk - I Vote Aye!)

Congress Getting Drunk - I Vote Aye! (on pages 119-124 in The Kind-Hearted Smarta*s: Volume 2 - The Wisecracks Continue ... #'s in parentheses indicate footnotes) There's a reason why root canals are more popular than Congress right now, as Congress' approval rating stands at approximately 13%.(119) At least with a root canal, something is taking place which needs to be done. That's more than can be said about Congress, which is doing next to nothing and doesn't seem to be at all phased by it. This is especially the case with the Republican-dominated House of Representatives. While the Senate has been fairly worthless, it has at least given the illusion that it can pass a bill worthy of being passed, whereas the Republican House appears itself to be hallucinating with the rare bills it passes, while sporadically suffering flashbacks to when its members were involved in a Jim Jones-like cult. Even though Democrats control the Senate and the President of the United S...

An excerpt from my book, "The Kind-Hearted Smarta*s: Vol. 2" (Duck Dynasty's Phil Robertson Comes Out Against Coming Out)

Duck Dynasty's Phil Robertson Comes Out Against Coming Out (from pages 96-99 of the book The Kind-Hearted Smarta*s: Volume 2 - The Wisecracks Continue ... #'s in parentheses indicate footnotes) While I've never personally watched the show, I think I hear more people talk about the "reality" show Duck Dynasty than I hear them talk about anything else, including their own kids. Well, based on some remarks made by star of the show Phil Robertson to GQ magazine, it appears as if a few regular viewers may opt to start watching something else instead. In the interview, Robertson made the following statements: - [When] "everything is blurred on what's right and what's wrong ... sin becomes fine." (90) - "Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there - bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men." (91) - "Don't be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the ma...

An excerpt from my book "The Kind-Hearted Smarta*s - Vol. 2" (Hooked on Phonics obviously didn't work for characters in horror films)

Hooked on Phonics obviously didn’t work for characters in horror films (page 54-55 in the book The Kind-Hearted Smarta*s: Volume 2 - The Wisecracks Continue ) Is it just me or is there a written requirement somewhere which says, "If you're a character in a horror film, you have to be stupid”? I went to see the film The Purge a while back, and like with many contemporary horror films, I spent most of my time laughing and giving the why-in-the-hell-are-they-doing-this-are-they-stupid look. Yes, I know the main intent of horror films is to frighten viewers. However, if the viewers find the script and plot so ridiculous, it's unbelievable to the point of being silly, then how will the film genuinely frighten said viewers? Here's my slightly exaggerated version of a scene from a contemporary horror film: Setting: A newly wed couple driving along the interstate, heading to Little Rock, Arkansas late at night Mr. Eugene Blockhead: "Oh, look, honey. There's t...

Why I'm not fully on board with the Colin Kaepernick deal yet...

It seems that many sportswriters and analysts are saying that San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick is worth every penny of his 6-year, $110+ million deal ($61 million guaranteed). While I'm not going to adamantly declare they're wrong, I'm also not going to boast such confidence that they're right either. Colin Kaepernick is a young, athletic quarterback, with a great deal of potential, and who has accomplished quite a bit for being just 26-years-old. He's 21-8 as a starter and 4-2 in the playoffs. So, what's the problem? Sign him to the big deal, right? While his great record can't be refuted and the quarterback is typically the face and name of the franchise, like Russell Wilson of Seattle, Colin Kaepernick has been very blessed with the team that surrounds him. Head coach Jim Harbaugh has now taken the team to three straight NFC title games, including one Super Bowl. The 49ers defense has been one of the best in the league since Harbaugh c...

The sexual objectification of women

It seems like from the beginning of time, women have been sexually objectified. Even in contemporary society, when more women are graduating from college than men, are slowly finding themselves with more power, even to the point when one could soon become president, they are still often times sexually objectified. The question is often asked, "Who's fault is it mainly? Women's for wearing provocative clothing, or men's for being natural hornballs?" In my opinion, men are more at fault for this, but both sexes have to take some responsibility. Women should never be seen nor treated like sexual objects. However, if one is wearing extremely showy clothing, unfortunately, there are some (men and women) whom will see them as such. It reminds me of a bit from a Dave Chappelle stand-up comedy act, when he talked about seeing a woman at a club, who was wearing next to nothing, some guy walked up to her and made a perverted comment, and she said, "Just because I...

When words lose meaning

There are times when words can be uttered so frequently, that they lose their impact. I find swear words to be a perfect example of this - the f-bomb, as it's known, in particular. If a person regularly uses said word, and even jokingly tells people to "f-off" at times, the impact won't be nearly as great when he or she tells a person in a serious tone to "f-off." There are also times when words can lose their meaning due to having been said time and again, but without the actions necessary to back up the claim. The first two words that come to mind here are "promise" and "love." The word "promise" gets parents, spouses, and politicians into trouble a great deal at times. A promise may sound lovely at first, but if the person continually doesn't follow through with their promises, the next time they utter the "p" word, it won't carry nearly as much weight as it did initially, and the audience's skeptici...

Big Dumb Earl's Bait House and Country Store

Want to know why many people are fighting so hard for legal protections for the LGBT community? Stories like one that was just reported out of Pittsburg, Texas, where a same-sex couple (Collin Dewberry and Kelley Williams) was told to never enter Big Earl's Bait House and Country Store again. Supposedly, the gay couple had been "rubbing legs," yet owner Earl Cheney ("Big Earl") has refused to provide surveillance to prove his claim. The owner went on to say, "A man's supposed to stand up and be a leader. He's not supposed to be a woman. He's not supposed to come in here in a dress." Big Earl later confessed that his daughter told the gay couple that the restaurant doesn't like "fags." After the inevitable backlash the restaurant received due to the story, the following message was posted on their Facebook page: "My goodness, does anyone read or study? Big Earl has spent his life in the military to defend this co...

The day I disagreed with a feminist about friend-zoning...

I read an article about friend-zoning the other day, which I found to be, I'll say interesting. The title of the article is, "Gender Block: Why the 'nice guy' stereotype is so dangerous," and was written by feminist Hillary Di Menna of This Magazine . When reading the article, I found myself to be in a peculiar position - for most people would regard me as a feminist, yet I've also been cast as the "nice guy" more times than I can count. Ms. Di Menna starts her article with this: "Nice guys always finish last. Whenever they treat a woman like a friend, it doesn't end up in sex! Sometimes, the guy will buy flowers and gifts for the woman, despite the fact she has expressed zero interest romantically, and again - no sex! This woman often becomes re-classified as an ice queen, a b**ch, a friend zoner - even when, in reality, she may feel betrayed or confused, having thought her friend was actually, well, her friend. And the guy - who, to re...

Men's rights groups appear to be living in opposite-land

Recently, I've read a few articles (and comments) about men's rights groups and men's rights conferences, where the central focus is on the oppression of men's rights and fighting for equality. Yes, you read that right. While I believe people should have equal rights regardless of age, race, gender, creed, orientation, etc., do some men seriously believe their rights have been oppressed when compared to women in this country? That's interesting... Well, allow me to take their concerns seriously and break things down for them: Congress: 436 women (81.5%) and 99 men (18.5%) Presidents: 44 women (100.0%) and 0 men (0.0%) Pay: Men make $0.77 to the $1.00 women make, and women in Congress seem reluctant on closing the gap CEOs of Fortune 500 companies: 95.8% women, 4.2% men Sexual assaults: 90% men, 10% women Reproductive rights: Women in Congress have made it more difficult for men to purchase condoms Pregnancy: Women in Congress have also tried barring me...

A**hole of the Year - Joe the Plumber (and it's not even June)

Starting next year, next to the words "insensitive," "jerk," "prick," and "douche" in the dictionary will be a picture of Samuel Wurzelbacher, or as he's better known, Joe the Plumber. Following the recent Santa Barbara shooting rampage, Wurzelbacher wrote an open letter to the victims' families, where he actually said this: "I am sorry you lost your child. I myself have a son and daughter and the one thing I never want to go through, is what you are going through right now. But: As harsh as this sounds -- your dead kids don't trump my Constitutional rights." He then claimed that pro-gun control activists "don't care about your family or your dead children at all," before following that up with this: "They sound like they do, whereas I sound uncaring and like I say, harsh. Don't be fooled - I care about your family and mine. The future of our very liberty lies in the balance of this fight....

Glenn Beck show mocks rape victims

Glenn Beck is about as reliable with the reporting of news as mimes are of reporting anything. Even his tamest of conspiracy theories are enough to provide Critical Thinking professors across the country with massive migraines. Even though it appears as if Beck is void of brain cells and has instead substituted them with crazy cells, and should have been placed in a loony bin a long time ago, he reached a new low recently - yes, even for him. During a program of his on the Blaze , host Stu Burguiere attacked recent studies which alleged that approximately 1 in every 5 women have been raped. He claimed that President Obama and the government are manipulating the numbers to make the problem appear to be worse than it actually is. He then brought two men out to poke fun of the studies and victims of sexual assault. One was supposedly a male Abercrombie & Fitch model and the other was a man dressed as the stereotypical ditsy, blonde woman. The male model then turns to the "wom...

I was ironically called a "numbnutz" today...

Oddly enough, for all of the pro-gun control blogs I've written over the past few years, one has appeared to garner more attention (and comments) than any other. It was written on April 12th of last year, is entitled, "A man tries to make gun-control proponents look dumb through his 'smart' aleck experiment, but makes himself look dumb in the process," and can be read at the following URL: http://thekind-heartedsmartaleck.blogspot.com/2013/04/a-man-tries-to-make-gun-control.html Just today, I received this comment in response to the blog and some follow-up comments which were made by readers and myself: "Hey Numbnutz. Do you also want to ban alcohol bc of drunk drivers that kill people? I don't see you arguing that point." "Numbnutz," eh? In a span of just 23 words, Critical Thinking professors would likely debate one another on just how many informal fallacies this individual committed. The probable number is between one and six (i...

Columbine Déjà Vu

Following Elliot Rodger's recent shooting rampage in Santa Barbara, California,  Washington Post film critic Ann Hornaday wrote an article, entitled, "In a final videotaped message, a sad reflection of the sexist stories we so often see on screen," which has gone on to prompt anger in some and fist pumps for others. I'll focus on three paragraphs from her article and comments about it from two people with differing viewpoints. In her article, Ms. Hornaday wrote this: "Indeed, as important as it is to understand Rodger's actions within the context of the mental illness he clearly suffered, it's just as clear that his delusions were inflated, if not created, by the entertainment industry he grew up in. With his florid rhetoric of self-pity, aggression and awkwardly forced "evil laugh," Rodger resembled a noxious cross between Christian Bale's slick sociopath in "American Psycho," the thwarted womanizer in James Toback's ...

Why the reluctance on going to a movie without the company of another?

Regardless of age, there are some things people hate doing alone. Whether that be eating dinner, going for walks, traveling, or heading to a bar on Friday night, they can't stand the thought of going about these activities by themselves. While I can understand this to a certain degree (except for walking/exercising), since most of the before-mentioned activities carry with them a social element, I can't understand this with regard to going out and seeing a movie. That may be different when seeing a movie at home, because the setting allows for more flexibility as far as time, socializing, and intimacy go. However, if you talk much at a movie theatre, people around you will likely complain, and there's a chance of getting kicked out. The same is true if you are too intimate with another during the film. So, why is it many are reluctant on going to the theatre by themselves? Like if they saw the film with another, there would be minimal conversation and minimal physical conta...
