Members of the Republican Party, especially when it comes to global-warming/climate-change, love to utter the following line - "I'm not a scientist..." Apparently, they feel this gives them the excuse to say something stupid. It reminds me of the following lines:
- "No offense, but... I'm about to say something while will likely offend you."
- "With all due respect... I'm about to be disrespectful."
- "I'm not a racist, but... I'm going to say something which many people might see as racist."
- "I don't normally get into people's personal matters, but... I'm definitely going to do that right now."
- "I'm not a scientist, but... I'm about to say something which will make at least 97% of scientists cringe."
While the GOP is at it, they might as well utter the following lines on their one and only, "I'm Not A 'But' Tour":
- "I'm not a mathematician, but last time I checked the calculator, there were 50 states."
- "I'm not an English teacher, but I never understood why we couldn't end sentences with a proposition."
- "I'm not a scientist, but if it weren't for gravity, I'd be crawling around on the floor all the time like I did back in college."
- "I'm not a psychiatrist, but I think talking to and open-mouth kissing your loaded gun is perfectly healthy, and no medication should be required for that."
- "'I'm not a smart man, but I know what love is.' Who said that? Albert Einstein? I think it was Einstein."
