Philadelphia Eagles 34 Dallas Cowboys 7

Well, that was a butt-whooping. I have to say I'm pretty surprised. Eagles head coach, Andy Reid, was 12-0 following by weeks, but still, the Eagles had yet to put a complete game together and had lost four straight games before beating Washington the week preceding their bye. But, last night, on Sunday Night Football, against division foe Dallas, the Eagles finally played well in all phases of the game and for four quarters. The Dallas Cowboys came into the game ranked 1st in the NFL in run defense. The Eagles ran for 239 yards against the vaunted Cowboys' D. They also threw for 256 net yards for a total of 495. They were 7 for 12 on 3rd down, accumulating 31 first downs in total. The team ran 70 plays and held the ball for 42:09 of the 60:00. Perhaps most importantly, the Eagles didn't turn the ball over. Michael Vick had a great day passing the football, completing 21 of 28 attempts for 279 yards (10.0 p/a), 2 touchdowns and a rating of 129.9. He also ran the ball 7 ti...

Tim Tebow Breakdown

So, after Denver Broncos' starting quarterback, Tim Tebow, led his team to a 4th quarter comeback against the winless Miami Dolphins a week prior, he made his second start of the season yesterday against the now 6-2 Detroit Lions and the outcome was completely different. In his first start of the year, Tebow was ineffective for about 3.5 quarters, only playing well for the final few minutes of the 4th quarter. This was the case again yesterday against the Lions, but unlike the previous week, Tebow's effective last half quarter came in garbage time, when the Lions gladly sacrificed yards for time, as they were up 6 touchdowns (45-3) at that point in the game. So, even with how awful Tebow's numbers are from yesterday's game, they should actually be a heck of a lot worse. Again, like I say with all young, inexperienced quarterback, we should all give Tebow some time to get in more reps, improve and see what his long-term value at the position is or could be. On the da...

Is it cheating when...?

So, I heard an interesting story from a good friend of mine last night. She's had rough run of it lately when it comes to her living situation. She had been living with her husband, but filed for divorce and was forced to leave the house. She then moved in with a married couple and things were awkward from the start. She almost immediately began to look elsewhere, but due to money constraints at the time, her options were limited. Before I knew it, she moved out-of-state to be with her boyfriend. That didn't last too terribly long and she moved back in with her father and siblings. Her brother's wife was about to fly back from China and there wouldn't be room for my friend when she did that, so she was told to leave by such and such date. Lucky for her, a friend and his wife welcomed her almost right away. She's been living there for three weeks and just learned yesterday that the wife wants her to leave and she has until next Monday to do so. Fortunately, she alrea...

What's the deal with Facebook-stalking?

Perhaps I'm not with the times when it comes to Facebook; I don't know. But what is the deal with Facebook-stalking? How frequently does it take place and why do people do it? I suppose "following" or "stalking" can be quite commonplace on other sites, like Twitter, Tumblr and Blogger. However, Twitter limits users to 140 characters per post and there doesn't appear to be nearly as many pictures shared, lengthy back-and-forth discussions (how deep can a discussion be when limited to 140 characters per post? Seriously?), not as much personal information shared unto the masses, etc. as Facebook. Tumblr and Blogger opens readers up to potentially more personal information about the person. However, again, the options afforded to people on these blog-esque sites are also available at Facebook, along with several others. So, while "stalking" seems fairly commonplace on social networking sites, I just have to believe that Facebook is a different beas...

Libertarian Judge Andrew Napolitano on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart

As I do every Monday through Thursday, barring repeats, I viewed The Daily Show with Jon Stewart last night. Ideologically speaking, Stewart is definitely left of center, especially when it comes to social issues. However, unlike some other talk show hosts, like Sean Hannity and many other such hosts on cable news channels, Fox in particular, Stewart actually tries to listen to his guests and understand where they're coming from. Stewart has had many conservative guests on his program and once in a while, he might go on a long rant, but he's not angry like Hannity or O'Reilly and for the most part, he is able to engage in a very civil and thought-provoking back-and-forth with his guest. So, last night, Stewart's guest was Judge Andrew Napolitano, whom describes himself as Libertarian. As the interview went long, there are three portions of the interview on the web to view. I went and viewed the second and third part this morning and followed that by reading all of the...

Herman Cain's New Ad and The Colbert Report's Spoof Of It

So, have you seen the latest Herman Cain ad? Whether you have or haven't, I recommend you view this video clip before reading further. It includes the actual Cain ad along with a spoof by Stephen Colbert and company on his program: http://www.colbertnation.com/the-colbert-report-videos/400682/october-25-2011/herman-cain-s-campaign-ad Assuming you've watched the clip, is it just me or did the ad appear like a big joke? Like what Saturday Night Live or one of the late-night comedy shows would create? When I first saw this ad, via The Colbert Report, I thought the ad had to be a phony, but upon hearing news commentary and one of the creators of the ad validating the ad, I was at a loss. Honestly, Colbert didn't even have to spoof the ad in order for it to be hilarious upon viewing it. Now there's all this analysis on the ad and what Cain's message and intent were with it. Yeah, best of luck with that. I'm not thinking this ad is anything Socrates or Plato would...

I will be reserving my place in hell soon...

Yeah, that's right. As of tomorrow night, when I venture to a Halloween Party at a pub I frequent, I think it will be safe to say that upon my passing, I will be going to hell. Why is this you didn't ask? Well, because I will be going as Jesus and not just any Jesus. No, while yes, with my costume came all the regulars: Robe/tunic, hair, beard and crown of thorns, I've decided to take things a little further. I will be entering wearing sunglasses, a lei around my neck, a sign on either my front or back (haven't decided yet...depending on if the beard and lei interfere with people reading the sign from the front) reading "I Saved Your A$$," while carrying a bag of leis with a note on it that reads "Who wants to lei Jesus? That will be $5." I've also concocted a top ten list I will bring along - The Top Ten Jesus Pick-up Lines and I plan on using a few of those throughout the course of the evening. Finally, I will be bringing with me a recipe for a...

"Everyone's Worst Critic" (a poem I wrote recently)

Everyone’s Worst Critic I don’t appreciate that language, Don’t appreciate that tone, As I utter numerous profanities, As I scream and yell, You must be more loyal, Must be more honest, As I exit the hotel with my mistress, Having told my wife I was out of town, You shouldn’t smoke or drink, Addiction is for the weak, Smoking my second pack of the day, Two weeks removed from AA, Gossip shows a lack of maturity, It shows a lack of respect, Did you hear about what’s his name? How can he live with himself? Constantly critical of others, With no hesitation present, Holding back no remorse, Being just as guilty as the rest of them.

"Exaggeration Sold" (a poem I wrote recently)

Exaggeration Sold It’s become an epidemic, Murder, rape and theft, Stay inside and lock your doors, Setup an alarm and buy a gun, One gruesome image after another, Fear and paranoia provoked, Panicked into purchasing safety devices, All the while crime decreases, Thirty seconds at a time, Attractive faces and voices displayed, Advice on how to better your life, Items and prices then portrayed, Hyperboles prevalent, There’s nothing like this, The first of its kind, Resulting in love and happiness, Constant imagery showcased, The sellers of products and exaggeration, Honesty of no importance, Just the illusion of being safe and contemporary.

Enough about Tim Tebow... Geez...

Wow... During the course of their first 5 games, there was clamor among a certain segment of Denver Broncos' fans (and fans in general) to start 2nd year quarterback Tim Tebow over Kyle Orton. I'd say a majority of this very segment (50.1% or greater) want this because they like Tebow the person, not so much Tebow the quarterback. The quarterback has not shied away from his strong Christian faith. While I myself am not affiliated with any religion, I respect what Tebow does off the field, as he involves himself in many different missions and charities to help those in need. I don't care if the guy is Christian, Muslim, Hindu or a Scientologist, if he takes time away from the game to help those in need, I'm very respectful of that. On the flip side, there are many fans whom don't much care for Tebow's being vocal about his faith. Due to this, many fans either like or dislike the quarterback, regardless of his play on the field. Me? I could really care less about ...

Philadelphia Eagles 0 Bye Week 0

For the second consecutive week, the 2-4 Eagles didn't add an L to their record and will square off against the 3-3 Dallas Cowboys next week. The Giants lead the East with a 4-2 record, while Dallas and Washington are an even 3-3 with Philly at 2-4. The Giants face Miami next week, so they are all but guaranteed another victory that would push them up to 5-2. Washington has to travel to Buffalo, which is anything but a gimme. If Philly is able to trump Dallas Sunday night, they could potentially find themselves in a 3-way tie for 2nd in the division and 2 back of the Giants. There's still a long way to go, but Philly would be digging themselves in a much greater hole if they lost to Dallas next week, falling back to 2-5 and 1-2 in the division, likely 3 back of New York, 2 back of Dallas and 1 or 2 back of Washington.

"An Actor in Life" (a poem I wrote recently)

An Actor in Life With the cameras focused on me, My voice suddenly alters, As my lines come forth, Possessing a new identity, My hair unlike what it’s been, My style completely different, Unrecognizable to family and friends, Feeling like an out-of-body experience, When the cameras are turned off, And I exit the set, I can set aside my character, And can again be myself, As I travel home, To see my wife and kids, I suddenly feel naked, Like something’s missing, When I tell my wife hello, She asks if something is wrong, That there are constant alterations in my voice, A look of confusion on my face, With the lines stuck in my head, I look into a mirror, Not recognizing myself, I go into a panic, I rush back to the set, Place on my outfit, Look into a mirror, And feel like myself once again.

"The News That's Not" (a poem I wrote recently)

The News That’s Not At all hours of the day, We make our presence known, Near or far, At work or at home, From the time you awake, Until the time you fall asleep, During the time in-between, Never taking a break, All time slots must be filled, Regardless of the relevance, Mouths must be gabbing, Regardless of the content, Loud voices are heard, To garner viewers’ attention, Treating opinions as fact, No time for actual journalism, Political gaffes shall be a focal point, Car chases shown aplenty, Celebrity scandals and deaths, Random stories which mean nothing, Partisan to our base, Credibility lacking, Without a care for the truth, Only about our ratings.

"Proud To Be A Liberal" (a poem I wrote recently)

Proud To Be A Liberal I believe in a woman’s right to choose, Gays right to marry, On taxing the rich, Helping the less fortunate, War as the very last option, I believe in health care for all, Life sentences without parole, Background checks for gun owners, In improving education, Improving the environment, I believe in global warming, Keeping jobs domestic, In marijuana being legalized, Creating jobs for the unemployed, Looking after our veterans, I believe in providing shelter for the homeless, I believe in freedom of speech, I believe in freedom of religion, I believe in freedom of the press, I believe all should be treated as equals, Bastardized has been my name, Some clamoring that I’m Anti-American, Reluctant to permit these twisted attempts to phase me, I am proud to be a liberal.

"A Piece of Paper" (a poem I wrote recently)

A Piece of Paper What you work for, What you all need, Unable to fully function, Unable to live without me, To go out and eat, Drink at a bar, To rent a house, Own a car, To raise your kids, Provide them education, To give them shelter, Provide them opportunity, Causing you great stress, Providing you tremendous joy, Able to destroy your life, Able to make you see another day, The world revolves around me, Like the earth to the sun, Heavy darkness looms overhead, Whenever you run short, Agreed upon for years, A piece of paper am I, With no pulse or heartbeat, Able to control your  life.

"The 75% Minority" (a poem I wrote recently)

The 75% Minority We are the proud, We are the few, We are the strong, We are the discriminated, A constant uphill struggle we face, A constant battle for our rights, With politicians and the media against us, We lock arms ready to fight, We march together in unison, With our heads held high, Refusing to have our freedoms stripped, Refusing to go down without a fight, We finally halt to face our oppressors, Surprised by the lack of them, Before we look directly behind us, And see millions upon millions, Holding only 75% of the population, Without a month to celebrate our history, Having never been persecuted for our race or religion, Having never been enslaved in this country, Supporting freedom for all, Except those whom don’t agree with us, We are the minority, We are the 75%.

Republicans are always opponents of tax increases, unless it deals with Herman Cain's 9-9-9 plan, which would increase taxes for 83.8% of the population...

Yeah, that's right. The arguable front-runner to become the Republican nominee for the 2012 presidential election's tax plan would increase taxes for 83.8% of this country. Republicans recently voted down the American Jobs Act, which would have resulted in a raise of taxes for the top 1-2%, meaning that 98-99% of the country would be unaffected. In Cain's plan, those making anywhere from under $10,000 to $200,000 would see a mean tax hike of $3,381.75, a 950% spike for those making between $10,000 and $20,000 a year. For those making between $200,000 and over $1,000,000? They'd see a mean tax cut of $175,297, including a $455,247 tax cut for those making over $1,000,000. That's right, folks. The anti-tax party, also know as the Republican Party, is a strong opponent of a plan which would increase taxes on the 1-2% wealthiest in this country while leaving 98-99% unscathed, yet support a plan which would increase taxes on the bottom 84%, with the top 16% being the b...

Want to defund contraception? Vote Santorum!

Republican candidate Rick Santorum had this to say recently with regard to contraception: "[Sex] is supposed to be within marriage . It’s supposed to be for purposes that are yes, conjugal…but also procreative. That’s the perfect way that a sexual union should happen…This is special and it needs to be seen as special." I'm so glad to have a candidate whom believes himself to be God and the moral compass for all. Thank you, Mr. Santorum, for your morality and your wisdom. How I wish Mr. Santorum believed in abstinence through marriage so that he wouldn't have the opportunity to share his Godliness with his youngsters. I do have to say I feel a little sorry with The Santorum. If the only sex he's had is during marriage, he's probably only engaged in the adult activity a handful of times in his 53 years. This could make for some catchy slogans and bumper stickers, though, such as: "No Contraception! Vote Santorum!" It's poetic, if I do ...

Bachmann's Gets an "A" in World Geography

In Tuesday night's Republican debate on CNN, Michele Bachmann criticized President Obama's foreign policy decisions, saying and I quote, "Now with the president, he put us in Libya. He is now putting us in Africa. We already were stretched too thin, and he put our special operations forces in Africa." For the record, Libya resides in Africa. Word has it that in future debates, Bachmann will talk about the separation of: Canada and North America Brazil and South America Antarctica and Antarctica Iowa and the United States Her residence and Mars http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/10/18/michele-bachmann-libya-africa_n_1018814.html

Jan Brewer - "...we have did." Indeed we have...did...

I think I may have uncovered the next "Yes We Can" slogan in the world of politics and this is quite possible, as these very words emanated from Arizona Governor Jan Brewer's mouth and there's rumor she may be a potential running mate for the Republican presidential nominee in the 2012 election. What were these words? Stay with me now... "We Have Did". This slogan is going to catch the nation by storm, especially if Brewer is the Vice Presidential candidate. Can you imagine all the signs, shirts and bumper stickers reading these very words? It gives me goosebumps to think about political rallies and supporters of her's chanting, "We Have Did! We Have Did! We Have Did!" I have to give George W. Bush some credit. He paved the way for future GOP candidates whom don't have a firm grasp of the English language to run for president. He have did. Yes, he have...did. http://www.pensitoreview.com/2010/09/02/arizona-gov-jan-brewer-r-we-have-d...

"One Night" (a poem I wrote recently)

One Night When I awaken, I look next to me, Uncertain of who you are, I begin to shudder, The surrounding room unrecognizable, Not cognizant of how I arrived, My memory lacking all the details, Not fully knowing what happened last night, Worries run rampant, As I try to sneak out, Hoping I used protection, Yet feeling much doubt, Out the door I walk, Hopeful it’s nothing but a thing of the past, Praying you don’t call, That I never bump into you again, In my car I travel, Uncertain of where I am, Receiving constant flashbacks, Promising myself it’ll never happen again, Right as I return home, I hop into the shower, Trying to cleanse myself of filth, Seemingly unable to scrub hard enough, I hit the bars the following night, Hungover yet again, Uncertain of who is next to me, Uncertain of who I am.

"The Screen of Imagination, Fantasy and Hope" (a poem I wrote recently)

The Screen of Imagination, Fantasy and Hope I’ve never seen your face, Nor heard your voice, Yet feel I know you, Through your written words, Having never looked into your eyes, Nor heard you laugh, Never have I seen you smile, Yet are feeling so close, My imagination illustrates a picture, Its accuracy unknown, My mind left to wonder, Who you really are, Words typed on a screen, No expressions or gestures displayed, No tears or laughs can be seen, No tone of voice heard, Your words on my screen, Hopeful that they’re sincere, Full of thoughts and wonder, Uncertain if I’m imagining you, I’ve never seen your face, Nor heard your voice, Yet I’m feeling ever closer to you, Wishing your words would come to life.

"Ethnocentric Overload" (a poem I wrote recently)

Ethnocentric Overload Superior to all others, Number one in self-made polls, That whom all shall follow, The masters in total control, Fists pumping in the air, At the mere mention of our name, Chanting it in unison, The U.S. of A., The best health care in the world, Our education second to none, The most powerful military, No other possessive of such freedoms, Home to the finest athletes, Actors and musicians, Authors and painters, Talk show hosts and comedians, The greatest country in the world we are, This we firmly believe, Continuing to shout our name, But refusing to listen, Possessors of blind faith, Ignorant of the surrounding world, Fists pumping at the sound of our name, With deaf ears for all others, The freest nation on earth, The most powerful as well, We are America, Forever in denial.

"The Flake" (a poem I wrote recently)

The Flake So close, So far away, Ubiquitous, Non-existent, I feel your warmth when you’re near, The times few and far between, The laughs and smiles that we share, Before you vanish from the scene, I call to prompt conversation, Never certain that you’ll answer, Naively hopeful for a response, Typically ending in disappointment, Out of the blue you call, To talk and catch up, Feeling the same chemistry as before, Feeling as though we never stopped, The cycle starts again, Temporarily removed from your life, Communication ceases to be, Until you decide otherwise, Slowly falling from the sky, Uncertain if you’ll freeze or melt, Uncertain if the predictions were right, Dependent on the changing temperature, The precipitation finally ends, The damage only temporary, Before you’re plowed from my life, Never wanting to see you again.

Philadelphia Eagles 20 Washington Redskins 13

Wow, so the Philadelphia Eagles actually won today, beating the then NFC East-leading Washington Redskins by the score of 20-13 to improve to 2-4 going into their bye week. Overall, the Eagles played pretty well. I'd call it their most "complete" game of the season. Even in their only other win to this point, against St. Louis in the first week, the Eagles struggled with their rush defense and passing game, largely due to a lack of pass protection on Michael Vick. The club has been accident-prone the previous four games, committing a host of penalties and not being bashful about turning the ball over. The Eagles committed two turnovers today, one which was in the red zone and another which gave Washington excellent field position. They also had a few yellow flags thrown at their expense, but given their recent efforts, there's not a whole lot to complain about on those fronts if you're an Eagles fan. Otherwise, the team was pretty sound. The run defense played...

"The March Away From Freedom" (a poem I wrote recently)

The March Away From Freedom A single-file line is formed, Before marching in unison, With matching suits and ties, All following our leaders, With hair slicked back similarly, Our scents reminiscent of one another’s, All eyes looking straight ahead, No hesitation is shown, Trained for the same mission, Trained for the same goal, Brainwashed into submission, Containing no thoughts of our own, Taught that it was moral, Taught that it was just, That it would be best for our families, That it would be best for ourselves, Approaching the door we are, Awaiting for it to be opened, No fear of the door closing on them, To be locked in permanently, As the door opens, I walk far away, Away from the herd, Never looking back, I dispose of my suit and tie, Clear my body of its prior scent, My hairstyle drastically altered, No longer do I march in unison, Unashamed to hold thoughts of my own, To stand out from the rest, To not fit in with the norms, To stay tr...

"Two-Faced" (a poem I wrote recently)

Two-Faced Kind and thoughtful, Overjoyed by my presence, Warm and caring, All words and actions genuine, The smile on her face when she sees me, The loving look in her eyes, The warm embrace she gives, Me believing there’s nothing to hide, As she walks away from me, The smile transforms into a scowl, The look in her eyes cold and bitter, The seeming joy and warmth nothing but a lie, Her friend’s phone rings, The earlier event is then shared, Negative words emanate from her mouth, Falsities and rumors are spread, Two faces to signal directions, Never sure of which way they’ll go, Believing they’re fooling everyone, But it’s only themselves that they fool.

"Standing United and Vulnerable" (a poem I wrote recently)

Standing United and Vulnerable Making a quick buck, At the expense of others, As the Twin Towers are struck, Millions then suffer, Vulnerabilities at their peak, Fearful of another attack, Blindly following the president’s lead, A child listening to his father, Temporarily standing united, Superficial over-the-top patriotism exudes, Outside, around the house, with what we wear, Sporting nothing but red, white and blue, Observed by businessmen and manufacturers, Sensing a golden opportunity, To take advantage of the nation’s vulnerability, To make the most off this tragedy, Shirts, mugs and pens are sold, Books, posters and blankets as well, Every material object known to man, Sold in the name of 9/11, Millions reign in, As thousands are lost, Money of no substitute, No matter what the cost, An attack commercialized, Capitalism at its finest, Making a quick buck, As millions still suffer.

"The People Elect, The Money Directs" (a poem I wrote recently)

The People Elect, The Money Directs Promises are made, Money is gathered, Voices are heard, Delusional in making a difference, Ideas abound, The heart yet corrupted, Naïveté and denial prevalent, Until one enters office, Bills are proposed, Denied by the other side, Compromises are then made, But it’s of no matter, Donating large sums of money, Corporations have the loudest voice, Elected to office by the people, Seemingly ignored thereafter, The endless stalemate cycle, Electors suffering in the process, Clamoring for compromise, To receive some semblance of the promises, Money continues to pour in, From lobbyists and special interests, Now of more importance than the people, The hearts slowly being corrupted, Sound bites are aired, To help rile the base, Pointing fingers at the opposition, Seeking a re-election, Pure in heart and mind, Until one steps into office, As money clouds and corrupts, All ideals and principles are lost.

"The Wall of Hypocrisy" (a poem I wrote recently)

The Wall of Hypocrisy Past, present and future, We head to the great land, Filled with opportunity, Of which we’ve never had, Like generations before us, Before theirs as well, On the oceans they sailed, With no fear of death, Illness strikes several, Some never recover, Friends and family mourn, Yet fight against the struggles, The water becomes no more, As we finally reach land, Standing and embracing one another, Sharing smiles, tears and laughs, From Europe we’ve traveled, From China and Japan, From Canada and Mexico, From South America and Africa, Longing for a taste of freedom, Longing for the American Dream, Hoping for nationwide acceptance, Wanting a better life for our families, We walk away from the boats, To a land full of opportunity, Hopeful a wall is not present, To deny us of all that’s free.

Brett Favre Talks About Aaron Rodgers

As has been well chronicled in the past week, former Green Bay Packers' quarterback, Brett Favre, had some interesting things to say about current Packers' quarterback Aaron Rodgers. When he spoke on Atlanta's 790 The Zone last Tuesday (October 4th), he made the following comments: "I'm going to be honest, I was not surprised. The biggest surprise to me would be that he didn't do it sooner." (referring to Rodgers winning a Super Bowl) "He's (Rodgers) very bright and he got a chance to watch and see successful teams do it right. And so he just kind of fell into a good situation. On top of that, he's a good player. I don't think there's any pressure on him now, the talent around him is even better than when I was there." "Aaron had a chance...even though the last couple years it's seemed like he's almost a rookie, he's been around a while. And I'd like to think that he watched, he learned, and then when he...

Michael Vick Becomes NFL's All-Time Leading Rusher Amongst Quarterbacks

In last weekend's game against the Buffalo Bills, Philadelphia Eagles' quarterback, Michael Vick, became the all-time leading rusher amongst NFL quarterbacks, surpassing Randall Cunningham's mark of 4,928 yards with 4,946 (and plenty more to come, I'm sure). Looking back at Vick's career to this point, the guy has been hampered by injuries, but statistically speaking, it's pretty impressive what he's been able to accomplish with all those injuries and the jail sentence. In 84 career starts, Vick has amassed 15,945 passing yards and 101 touchdowns, to go along with 4,948 rushing yards and 32 touchdowns for a total of 20,893 yards and 133 touchdowns. Vick has played a total of 5.25 seasons and has averaged the following per 16-game season: 3,037.1 yards passing, 19.2 touchdowns through the air, 942.5 rushing yards and 6.1 touchdowns on the ground for a combined average of 3,979.6 yards per season to go along with 25.3 touchdowns. For his career, Vick is cu...

Greatness in Sports

As I mentioned previously, I got into a rather heated exchange (well, I was on the receiving end of his "heat". I was rather cool and collected) about Carolina Panthers' quarterback Cam Newton last weekend. The person whom was speaking to me made the claim that Newton is already great and has nothing more to prove to illustrate this, as he saw it, fact. I, on the other hand, said that while Newton has gotten off to a solid start in what will hopefully be a lengthy NFL career, I'm not going to judge the guy based on 5 (4 at the time) games. So, how do we define greatness in terms of athletes? Is there one clear definition? As usual, I think there are a variant of answers to the question of defining athletic greatness. There is such a thing as short-term greatness and while Cam Newton hasn't illustrated even short-term greatness yet, I could understand the other's (the guy at the bar) standpoint a bit better if he had alluded to this as opposed to declaring Ne...

GOP Kills Jobs Bill

Surprise, surprise... It's funny how the party ran on the notion of creating jobs, yet if a Democrat, President Obama in particular, proposes a way of creating jobs, they decide that creating jobs isn't so important after all. GOP 2012 - Creating jobs for the American people, unless a stupid, commie liberal proposes the bill... or GOP 2012 - Always creating jobs for the top 1%, f**k the other 99%

Tim Tebow to start for the Denver Broncos. Uh...why?

So, word just got released that Tim Tebow will be the starting quarterback for the Denver Broncos, taking over for Kyle Orton. I see only two possible reasons for this - 1. The Broncos are 1-4 and want to see what potential Tebow has for future clubs and 2. Due to the Broncos poor record and low expectations, starting Tebow could help attract fans to the games. There have been a number of Broncos fans clamoring for Tebow to start. Outside of the two before-mentioned reasons, I personally see no reason to start Tebow. He seems like a nice guy and all the power to him to get involved in the community and put his fame and money to good use. However, I highly doubt he'll ever be a good NFL quarterback. While, as I mentioned recently, I have not bought into the hype surrounding rookie quarterback Cam Newton, I'm very skeptical of the idea that Tebow can become a quality professional quarterback. Newton is quicker, has a stronger throwing arm and has better passing mechanics than...

High Heels - Proof that some women are masochists (American football provides this evidence for males)

I read another study today which indicated that high heels are bad for a woman's health. This wasn't groundbreaking by any means, as I've read similar findings in a host of other such studies. So, I decided to do some further research on this topic and have to say, for the life of me, I can't understand why some women consistently wear high heels, especially the 3-4'' ones. Most women I know whom consistently wear heels do so because it makes them feel attractive and sexy, shows off more of their legs, makes them feel taller and more confident and because they think men feel this way too. Well, another study was released which stated that men don't notice women in heels any more or less than they notice women not wearing heels (http://newsfeed.time.com/2010/09/21/study-men-dont-notice-if-women-wear-high-heels/?hpt=Sbin). Being a man myself and knowing many other people of the same sex as I, I would say that I think this study is spot on. This isn't true ...

You can tell an awful lot from a movie title...

Often times, movie titles make sense. There lacks ambiguity, where a person unfamiliar with the general storyline could garner a good sense of the film's essence just by seeing its title. "Forrest Gump" is a good example, as the central focus of the film is a character by the name of Forrest Gump. "While You Were Sleeping" is slowly edging toward the gray area known as ambiguity, but we can still garner a decent sense of what the film's storyline is by reading the title - it has to deal with what transpires while a certain individual is sleeping. Who "you" is we can't be certain of at this juncture.
