Face-palm quotes brought to you by Tony Dungy and Mike Huckabee

I read two quotes today which I felt the need to share and rebut. They come courtesy of former NFL head coach and current NFL analyst Tony Dungy, and former Arkansas governor and current douchebag Mike Huckabee.

I'll start with Dungy's comment, as he made his thoughts known on why Pro Bowl quarterback Colin Kaepernick has yet to get signed by an NFL team:

"Without that national anthem [protest], someone would have signed him by now. If you're seen as a distraction off the field, for whatever reason, you better have a lot of talent going for you. People will overlook it. They always sign talent if they think he's going to upgrade your team. Michael Vick went through a lot of that and had some teams say no [to signing him]. Andy Reid was the one coach who said, 'Hey, we'll do it. We think enough of him as a player, and we know we're going to take some criticism.' With Joe Mixon, you had the same thing. That's what happens."

Really? Dungy's really comparing Kaepernick to Vick and Mixon? Look, as long-time readers should know, I've always loved watching Michael Vick play football, and for as much as I hated the man's actions when it came to dogfighting, I believe he's become a prime example of how rehabilitation can work. In any case, the man committed a crime and rightly did the time. Like Vick, Joe Mixon was convicted of a crime, this time a misdemeanor assault charge, and paid a penalty. Agree with his stance for not, Colin Kaepernick, unlike Vick and Mixon, committed no crime by kneeling during the National Anthem, and it's utterly ridiculous to make such an asinine comparison. Michael Vick spent time in prison for his actions. Joe Mixon had to fulfill 100 hours of community service for his actions. Colin Kaepernick had to do no such thing and is still waiting for a call about a job due to him expressing his 1st Amendment rights.

As for Mike Huckabee's quote, he was commenting on Saturday Night Live's skit which featured a representation of his daughter, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, from last weekend:

"I thought it was a little bit silly, sexist, [and] misogynist, but my daughter is certainly capable of handling a whole lot worse than that. Here's what we taught her, that she's going to be judged by God, not by some not-so-funny comedy writers on Saturday Night Live."

In the skit, actress/comedian Aidy Bryant, playing the part of Mike's daughter, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, was shown eating an apple, as well as saying, "My father is Mike Huckabee. My mother is a big Southern hamburger."

Was the line funny? No, not really. Was Huckabee Sanders being fat-shamed? Yeah. But was it sexist and misogynistic as her father claimed? No. Do you want to hear sexist and misogynistic? Allow Mike Huckabee to show you himself. Here are a few of his quotes:

- "My wife's name is Janet. And when you say Janet yellin', I'm very familiar with what you mean."

- "That's an easy one. I'd put my wife on there ($10 bill) I've been married to her 41 years. She's fought cancer and lived through it. She's raised three kids and five great grandkids. And she's put up with me. I mean, who else could possible be on that money other than my wife. And then that way, she could spend her own money with her face."

- "I think it's time for Republicans to no longer accept listening to Democrats talk about a war on women. Because the fact is, the Republicans don't have a war on women. They have a war for women. For them to be empowered; to be something other than victims of their gender. Women I know are outraged that Democrats think that women are nothing more than helpless and hopeless creatures whose only goal in life is to have a government provide for them birth control and medication. Women I know are smart, educated, intelligent, capable of doing anything anyone else can do. Our party stands for the recognition of the equality of women and the capacity of women. That's not a war on them, it's a war for them. And if the Democrats want to insult the women of America by making them believe that they are helpless without Uncle Sugar coming in and providing for them a prescription each month for birth control because they cannot control their libido or their reproductive system without the help of the government, then so be it, let's take that discussion all across America because women are far more than Democrats have made them to be. And women across America have to stand up and say, enough of that nonsense."

- "In the south, in Iowa, you would not have people who would just throw the f-bomb and use gratuitous profanity in a professional setting. In New York, not only do the men do it, but the women do it! This is worse than locker room talk. This would be considered totally inappropriate to say these things in front of a woman, but for a woman to say them in a professional setting... that's just trashy."

Who's the sexist and misogynistic one again, Mr. Huckabee? That's what I thought...

Boycotting jukeboxes because of TouchTunes

I love music and enjoy hitting the bar(s) over the weekend, so naturally, when the mood strikes me, I've never been coy about playing some songs on the jukebox. This past Thursday, a friend of mine turned 50, so several friends of her's, including myself, all met up to celebrate the occasion. At around 9:30, a friend of mine and I both chipped in $5 to play some songs on the jukebox. Four hours and 231 skips later, we gave up on hearing the songs we had selected, and went home knowing we had just wasted $5. This wasn't the first time such a thing had happened to me (and many others), and due to that, I'll be boycotting jukeboxes. Why? The scam known as TouchTunes. You see, here's how the plot typically breaks down. A person (or group of people) downloads the TouchTunes app on his/her phone, consumes one too many adult beverages, and due to this, has less care for spending extra money to hear the songs of their choosing right NOW. That's the thing with TouchTun

The difference between "looking" and "checking out"

I may be way off with these numbers, but it's my approximation that at least 75% of individuals whom are involved in a serious relationship feel it's perfectly acceptable to "check out" members of the opposite sex they're not involved with. Meanwhile, approximately 25% either don't feel this is acceptable or aren't sure about the matter. I hadn't thought about this matter for a while, but since I've been dating a woman for about 8 months, the topic has been pondered about some. When reading or hearing others discuss this very issue, I often times hear comments similar to the following: "It's human nature to look." "There's nothing wrong with checking others out. I'm sure he/she does it too!" "It's fine to do it. Just don't tell your boyfriend/girlfriend about it or do it in front of them!" "It's natural to find people attractive." When observing the array of comments, I i

The verdict is in. To no one's surprise, Jonathan Hoenig has been found guilty of being an idiot.

Just recently, when discussing the Michael Brown shooting and whether or not race had anything to do with it, Fox News contributor Jonathan Hoenig said, "You know who talks about race? Racists." One moment while I provide Mr. Hoenig with the well deserved slow-clap. :: slow-claps for two seconds :: So, that was quite the line by Mr. Hoenig, wasn't it? "You know who talks about race? Racists." Well, wasn't he just talking about race? So, by his own words, I guess that makes him a racist. Also, if he wants to be consistent, does this mean that people whom talk about gender are sexists and people whom talk about sexual orientation are homophobes? With that line of thinking, Hoenig would engage in the following back-and-forths: Hoenig: "So, who are you voting for?" A woman: "The Democratic candidate, because he's been adamant about his support for equal rights for women." Hoenig: "You sexist feminist nazi!"
