While many Republicans have attempted to suppress the vote of certain demographics which tend to vote Democratic the past few years, Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman appears to be going the opposite route.
Just recently, Heineman signed a bill which will allow online voter registration as of some point in 2015. He also signed a bill with an added amendment which would continue to allow same-day voter registration (election day) while election officials checked the validity of the voters' registrations.
With regard to this, Heineman said, "This is huge, a big step forward in terms of what we do with voter registration."
Secretary of State John Gale added that they're simply trying to make voter registration "more convenient and efficient."
While Governor Heineman and I may not see eye-to-eye on much, I sincerely appreciate his efforts to encourage and enable voting, as opposed to suppressing it. So, kudos to the Nebraska governor for doing just that! Hopefully, more Republican governors will follow his lead.
