Mike Huckabee and James Dobson may be mentally ill

In light of the tragic elementary school shooting, which ended with twenty-six casualties (excluding the shooter) - twenty of which were 6- and 7-year old kids - most of the country has tried figuring out who or what to blame. This is extremely common when tragedies strike. When the Columbine school shootings occurred, the media was quick to blame violent video games and musician Marilyn Manson. There was little to no evidence to suggest this, especially with regard to Manson, since it was later discovered the two shooters didn't even like his music. However, it made the nation feel some sense of collective relief, in being able to solve the riddle, as well as push responsibility as far away from themselves as was possible.

Following the Friday shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, there have been three main areas of blame: 1) Lack of mental health services/funding
2) Lack of gun regulation
3) Violent video games

Those have been the main three areas of focus, especially for liberals and moderates (the first two in particular). However, some on the right have been making a different argument.

As former Arkansas Governor and current Fox News talking head (soon to be blob) Mike Huckabee said: "...we've systematically removed God from our schools" and "...And somebody is going to suggest we pass a law to stop all this kind of thing. I might want to point out that we don't have to pass a new law, there is one that has been around awhile that works if we'd teach it and observe it: 'Thou shalt not kill.'"

Focus on the Family founder and rumored co-lead of the Brokeback Mountain sequel - James Dobson - followed Huckabee's lead, saying: "Our country does seem in complete disarray. I'm not talking politically, I'm not talking about the result of the November sixth election; I am saying that something has gone wrong in America and that we have turned our back on God.

I mean millions of people have decided that God doesn't exist, or he's irrelevant to me and we have killed 54 million babies and the institution of marriage is right on the verge of a complete redefinition. Believe me, that is going to have consequences, too.

And a lot of these things are happening around us, and somebody is going to get mad at me for saying what I am about to say right now, but I am going to give you my honest opinion: I think we have turned our back on the scripture and on God almighty and I think he has allowed judgment to fall upon us. I think that's what's going on."

That's right, ladies and gentlemen! The main reason for Friday's tragic shooting isn't the fact that the shooter had mental health issues and we've seen decreased funding and services for that kind of thing. It isn't the fact that mentally-disturbed individuals have less problem purchasing a firearm than a person with allergy problems has of purchasing Sudafed. It isn't the fact that assault weapons are legal to purchase. It isn't that many parents, instead of being the primary teachers of their children, have passed those responsibilities off to the entertainment world - many of which is violent. No, forget all of that. The main reason for Friday's shooting is that this country has turned its back on an invisible superman, somehow responsible for creating the world in six days, who sent his perfect son - born from a virgin - to die on a cross as a sacrifice for our sins, only to rise from the dead three days later, and afford us all the opportunity of living an afterlife with him in a paradise known as heaven. The reason is because it's legal for women who are raped to have an abortion. The reason is because women, whose lives are in jeopardy, can have an abortion. The reason is because even though such relationships have existed all throughout history (and across many different species), homosexual relationships (marriages) are being legalized. No, forget that the perpetrator of Friday's act was mentally deranged and had with him a Bushmaster .223 semi-automatic rifle he stole from his mother. Let's make it about turning our back on an invisible man in the sky and pretend everything will be alright. Just tell the parents of those twenty-six victims that - especially the parents of the twenty 6- and 7-year old kids, who will never drive a car, who will never go to prom, who will never graduate high school or college, who will never date, get married or have kids of their own, who will never live to see another day. Yeah, tell their parents, "Look - your child may have been the victim of a gun crime, where a guy with mental health problems got his hands on a legally-purchased semi-automatic weapon, but let's not focus our attention on getting people with such mental problems help or making it more difficult to purchase assault weapons. Let's overturn Roe v. Wade and add an amendment to the Constitution banning gay marriage. Then these kinds of shootings will never happen again." Yeah, good luck with that...

Boycotting jukeboxes because of TouchTunes

I love music and enjoy hitting the bar(s) over the weekend, so naturally, when the mood strikes me, I've never been coy about playing some songs on the jukebox. This past Thursday, a friend of mine turned 50, so several friends of her's, including myself, all met up to celebrate the occasion. At around 9:30, a friend of mine and I both chipped in $5 to play some songs on the jukebox. Four hours and 231 skips later, we gave up on hearing the songs we had selected, and went home knowing we had just wasted $5. This wasn't the first time such a thing had happened to me (and many others), and due to that, I'll be boycotting jukeboxes. Why? The scam known as TouchTunes. You see, here's how the plot typically breaks down. A person (or group of people) downloads the TouchTunes app on his/her phone, consumes one too many adult beverages, and due to this, has less care for spending extra money to hear the songs of their choosing right NOW. That's the thing with TouchTun

The difference between "looking" and "checking out"

I may be way off with these numbers, but it's my approximation that at least 75% of individuals whom are involved in a serious relationship feel it's perfectly acceptable to "check out" members of the opposite sex they're not involved with. Meanwhile, approximately 25% either don't feel this is acceptable or aren't sure about the matter. I hadn't thought about this matter for a while, but since I've been dating a woman for about 8 months, the topic has been pondered about some. When reading or hearing others discuss this very issue, I often times hear comments similar to the following: "It's human nature to look." "There's nothing wrong with checking others out. I'm sure he/she does it too!" "It's fine to do it. Just don't tell your boyfriend/girlfriend about it or do it in front of them!" "It's natural to find people attractive." When observing the array of comments, I i

The verdict is in. To no one's surprise, Jonathan Hoenig has been found guilty of being an idiot.

Just recently, when discussing the Michael Brown shooting and whether or not race had anything to do with it, Fox News contributor Jonathan Hoenig said, "You know who talks about race? Racists." One moment while I provide Mr. Hoenig with the well deserved slow-clap. :: slow-claps for two seconds :: So, that was quite the line by Mr. Hoenig, wasn't it? "You know who talks about race? Racists." Well, wasn't he just talking about race? So, by his own words, I guess that makes him a racist. Also, if he wants to be consistent, does this mean that people whom talk about gender are sexists and people whom talk about sexual orientation are homophobes? With that line of thinking, Hoenig would engage in the following back-and-forths: Hoenig: "So, who are you voting for?" A woman: "The Democratic candidate, because he's been adamant about his support for equal rights for women." Hoenig: "You sexist feminist nazi!"
