Philly did everything they could to play the role of spoiler last week against in-division rival Washington, before falling to the 'Skins by the final score of 27-20. This dropped the Eagles to 1-10 in their last 11 games and 4-11 overall.
Throughout the contest, all three phases of the Eagles' game appeared pretty average. Their defense, while continuing to play better than they had been mid-season, still allowed Washington quarterback Robert Griffin III to have a very efficient day - posting a quarterback rating of 102.4. Albert Morris also ran the ball fairly efficiently for the Redskins, running for 91 yards on 22 carries (4.1 average), and a touchdown. The Eagles' special teams were average to slightly below average. Their coverage units have been poor throughout the course of the season, but have shown some signs of improvement in recent weeks. That progression seemed to come to a halt in this game.
Offensively, Nick Foles, while breaking his hand, played fairly efficiently. While turning the ball over twice (once on an interception and once on a fumble), the rookie quarterback completed 32 of 48 pass attempts (66.7%) for 345 yards (7.2 p/att) and a touchdown, while running the ball four times for 10 yards (2.5 avg.). That was good for a solid quarterback rating of 85.9. Starting tailback LeSean McCoy wasn't all that effective on the ground - carrying the ball 13 times for 45 yards (3.5 avg.). To his credit, he did catch 9 passes for 77 yards (8.6 avg.). Jeremy Maclin had a big game - catching 8 passes for 116 yards (14.5 avg.), and a touchdown.
Well, at this point in the season, Philly fans are just counting down the days til the end of the season (today), and awaiting some moves. Will head coach Andy Reid be back for another year? Will quarterback Michael Vick return? What will the team's focus(es) be in the off-season? Whatever the case, as most Chicago Cubs fans feel throughout the course of the season, most Eagles fans are looking forward to this nightmare of a season coming to an end and seeing what can be done in the off-season to improve the club.
