42% is apparently the new 60%...

Due to a new Monmouth poll that was released yesterday, Democrats are claiming the world is going to end, while Republicans are claiming their party has been saved. Let's all stand back, take a deep breath, and try to see the larger picture. Monmouth, which is a reputable pollster, showed Donald Trump's approval rating jumping 10 points from 32% to 42% in the past month. Trump's approval average on RealClearPolitics is 41.5%, so it's not as though Monmouth's latest poll is some kind of crazed outlier. That's not the case when it comes to their findings on the Generic Congressional Vote, however. The Monmouth poll suggests that Republicans have narrowed the gap to 2 points. In the 11 other most recently taken polls regarding the subject, that gap is an average of 8 points. So it remains to be seen if Democrats truly have anything to worry about with regard to the midterm elections. When it comes to Donald Trump's approval rating, however, let's dig a little deeper into the numbers. A Gallup state-by-state poll was just released. Here's how those numbers break down, starting with the highest approval rating (I'll include the state's electoral votes in parentheses):

1) West Virginia (5): 61%
2) North Dakota (3): 57%
2) Wyoming (3): 57%
4) South Dakota (3): 54%
5) Alabama (9): 54%
5) Idaho (4): 54%
5) Oklahoma (7): 54%
8) Montana (3): 52%
9) Kentucky (8): 51%
10) Alaska (3): 50%
10) Arkansas (6): 50%
10) Tennessee (11): 50%
13) Louisiana (8): 49%
13) Nebraska (5): 49%
15) Kansas (6): 48%
15) Mississippi (6): 48%
15) South Carolina (9): 48%
15) Utah (6): 48%
19) Missouri (10): 47%
20) Ohio (18): 45%
21) Indiana (11): 44%
22) Iowa (6): 43%
23) Maine (4): 42%
23) Nevada (6): 42%
23) New Hampshire (4): 42%
23) Pennsylvania (20): 42%
27) Arizona (11): 41%
27) Florida (29): 41%
27) Georgia (16): 41%
27) Wisconsin (10): 41%
31) Michigan (16): 40%
31) North Carolina (15): 40%
33) Texas (38): 39%
34) Colorado (9): 37%
34) Minnesota (10): 37%
34) Virginia (13): 37%
37) Delaware (3): 36%
37) Oregon (7): 36%
39) New Mexico (5): 35%
40) New Jersey (14): 34%
40) Washington (12): 34%
42) Illinois (20): 33%
43) Rhode Island (4): 32%
44) Connecticut (7): 31%
45) Maryland (10): 30%
45) New York (29): 30%
47) California (55): 29%
47) Hawaii (4): 29%
49) Massachusetts (11): 27%
50) Vermont (3): 26%
51) Washington, D.C. (3): 6%
Overall: 38%

Donald Trump is at 50% or above in only 12 states. According to these numbers, here's how Donald Trump would fare against a Democratic opponent in the 2020 presidential election:

Trump (50%+): 65 electoral votes (EVs)
Democrat: 473 EVs

Trump (46%+): 115 EVs
Democrat: 423 EVs

Trump (41%+): 250 EVs
Democrat: 288 EVs

So both Democrats and Republicans should settle down about the new Monmouth poll (for different reasons). If the 2020 election were held today and Donald Trump was required to earn only 41% of the vote to win a state, the Democratic candidate would still win by 38 electoral votes. No matter what the GOP wants to believe, 42 is not the new 60...

Boycotting jukeboxes because of TouchTunes

I love music and enjoy hitting the bar(s) over the weekend, so naturally, when the mood strikes me, I've never been coy about playing some songs on the jukebox. This past Thursday, a friend of mine turned 50, so several friends of her's, including myself, all met up to celebrate the occasion. At around 9:30, a friend of mine and I both chipped in $5 to play some songs on the jukebox. Four hours and 231 skips later, we gave up on hearing the songs we had selected, and went home knowing we had just wasted $5. This wasn't the first time such a thing had happened to me (and many others), and due to that, I'll be boycotting jukeboxes. Why? The scam known as TouchTunes. You see, here's how the plot typically breaks down. A person (or group of people) downloads the TouchTunes app on his/her phone, consumes one too many adult beverages, and due to this, has less care for spending extra money to hear the songs of their choosing right NOW. That's the thing with TouchTun

The difference between "looking" and "checking out"

I may be way off with these numbers, but it's my approximation that at least 75% of individuals whom are involved in a serious relationship feel it's perfectly acceptable to "check out" members of the opposite sex they're not involved with. Meanwhile, approximately 25% either don't feel this is acceptable or aren't sure about the matter. I hadn't thought about this matter for a while, but since I've been dating a woman for about 8 months, the topic has been pondered about some. When reading or hearing others discuss this very issue, I often times hear comments similar to the following: "It's human nature to look." "There's nothing wrong with checking others out. I'm sure he/she does it too!" "It's fine to do it. Just don't tell your boyfriend/girlfriend about it or do it in front of them!" "It's natural to find people attractive." When observing the array of comments, I i

The verdict is in. To no one's surprise, Jonathan Hoenig has been found guilty of being an idiot.

Just recently, when discussing the Michael Brown shooting and whether or not race had anything to do with it, Fox News contributor Jonathan Hoenig said, "You know who talks about race? Racists." One moment while I provide Mr. Hoenig with the well deserved slow-clap. :: slow-claps for two seconds :: So, that was quite the line by Mr. Hoenig, wasn't it? "You know who talks about race? Racists." Well, wasn't he just talking about race? So, by his own words, I guess that makes him a racist. Also, if he wants to be consistent, does this mean that people whom talk about gender are sexists and people whom talk about sexual orientation are homophobes? With that line of thinking, Hoenig would engage in the following back-and-forths: Hoenig: "So, who are you voting for?" A woman: "The Democratic candidate, because he's been adamant about his support for equal rights for women." Hoenig: "You sexist feminist nazi!"
