Dick Cheney's giving advice about Iraq? Seriously? Is Tiger Woods going to give advice about marriage too?
So, did you hear? Dick Cheney co-authored a column in The Wall Street Journal, where he both criticized and advised President Obama about the situation in Iraq. In light of this, word on the street has it that Tiger Woods will write a column where he gives helpful tips on how to have a very happy and long-lasting marriage.
In the column, the Cheneys (Liz, along with Dick) wrote the following bits:
- "Rarely has a U.S. president been so wrong about so much at the expense of so many..."
- "When Mr. Obama and his team came into office in 2009, al Qaeda in Iraq had been largely defeated, thanks primarily to the heroic efforts of U.S. armed forces during the surge..."
- "The president is willfully blind to the impact of his policies..."
- "...Weakness and retreat are provocative. U.S. withdrawal from the world is disastrous and puts our own security at risk."
- "American freedom will not be secured by empty threats, meaningless red lines, leading from behind, appeasing our enemies, abandoning our allies, or apologizing for our great nation - all hallmarks to date of the Obama doctrine..."
- "...President Obama is on track to securing his legacy as the man who betrayed our past and squandered our freedom."
::stands up and gives Dick Cheney the slow clap::
I'm sorry, Mr. Cheney, it was getting loud in here due to all of that applause. Could you repeat that first line for me again please?
"Rarely has a U.S. president been so wrong about so much at the expense of so many..."
Ah, that's what I thought. Let's talk about that for a moment. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the Iraq war start under President George W. Bush's watch, when you were vice president? Also, were you guys not wrong about the intelligence you received regarding the alleged weapons of mass destruction being held in the country, which supposedly prompted the war in the first place? Haven't there even been reports that many of you knowingly lied about the WMDs in order to garner public support for the war? Sorry to do this again, but what was it you said?
"Rarely has a U.S. president been so wrong about so much at the expense of so many..."
As of early this year, taxpayers had spent a total of $1 trillion for this war based on false pretenses, and close to 4,500 U.S. soldiers lost their lives as a result. Another 32,000 were wounded. Not only that, but through the war being based on a lie and collateral damage suffered by many Iraqi civilians, we created countless more America-haters in the process.
What was that third quote again, Richard?
- "The president is willfully blind to the impact of his policies..."
Now, are you talking about former President Bush and yourself, whom lied us into war, where tens of thousands of our soldiers are hurting or deceased as a result, or the current president? Even though the Obama "apology" tour has been debunked multiple times, if he ever did apologize, don't you think it would have been for the awful decisions you and President Bush made while in office, as opposed to this country? Former Vice President Cheney can project as much as he'd like, yet his logic is off much like his aim when hunting birds with friends. It's because of Bush, Cheney, and company, that we went to war in Iraq in the first place. It's because of Bush, Cheney, and company, that taxpayers have spent $1 trillion on this war. It's because of Bush, Cheney, and company, that 4,500 of our soldiers have died and 32,000 others have been wounded. It's because of Bush, Cheney, and company, that we have more enemies around the globe than we know what to do with due to the lies they told which prompted the war. It's because of Bush, Cheney, and company, that, in light of the 9/11 terror attacks where 3,000 people died, we saw our freedoms diminish right before our very eyes with the signing of the Patriot Act. Dick Cheney can blame President Obama as much as he'd like. The fact of the matter is that 9/11 occurred on his watch, the Patriot Act was initially signed on his watch, the Iraq war started on his watch, and no amount of logical acrobatics can ever change that.
"Rarely has a U.S. president been so wrong about so much at the expense of so many..."
If Cheney had been referring to both former President George W. Bush and himself, he would have been absolutely right.
