Trumpsters: Short memories, shorter attention spans, "shortliest" brains

Every now and again I read a Facebook post to which I feel the need to respond. Today is one of those days. Here is the latest such post:

"Please share this.....
Ladies an gentleman boys and girls, and people of all ages. No matter how much you wine and cry and bitch and play the he said she said crap.
Donald Trump is now the holder of the highest position in our great country, he is the president of our country. The way people are behaving towards this makes me sick and embarrassed. We as a nation have to stand together and support him as are leader wether u like it or not, he got the job. Drop all the crap, this is idiotic. If your really that butt hurt by him, get the f out of our country. No one will miss you, and In fact there will always people coming in to fill your place.
If you can't support the president of our great nation,
Get the Fu*k out!!!!!!!"

I don't know where this message originated, but it appears to be making the rounds. First off, couldn't the original "author" have done a better job spell-checking? Jebus... He (I'm guessing it's a "he") misspells "and," "whine," "our," "whether," "you," and "you're." Not only that, there are at least 14 other errors displayed in this short paragraph. I don't know whether the author was drunk while writing this "piece," has failed to pass 2nd grade English, or a combination of the two. Regardless, if this paper were handed in to an English professor, it would be loaded with so much red ink, even a sunburnt Rudolph would be impressed.

Even if we try to look past the 20+ errors in this short piece, the message is ridiculous to the point of giving egregious a bad name. Donald Trump has yet to be inaugurated as president. He has yet to spend a single day in the Oval Office as leader of this country. While the next president earned approximately 63 million votes, close to 74 million people voted against him, including 66 million who voted for his main opponent, Democrat Hillary Clinton. There are roughly 146 million registered voters in this country, 232 million eligible voters, and 319 million people overall. So, to put things in their proper perspective, Donald Trump earned the vote of 43.2% of registered voters, 27.2% of eligible voters, and 19.7% of people overall. To put this another way, Trump earned the vote of a little more than 2 in 5 registered voters, a little more than 1 in 4 eligible voters, and slightly less than 1 in 5 people overall. So while yes, Donald Trump won the vote of 63 million people, he didn't receive the vote of 256 million others. The man has no mandate. He has to earn the trust and respect of the American people and can't expect it to just be given to him. The man's approval rating, even before his first day in office, is at a measly 37%. His message here shouldn't be, "If you don't like me, get the hell out!" it should be, "Allow me to prove I deserve to be your president."

I also find it amusing how the ironic hilarity seems to be lost on the author of this post. We're not even to day 1 of Donald Trump's presidency and he's already saying, "Trump's the president! Deal with it!" yet we're past day 2,900 in President Obama's tenure, and I'm still hearing Trump supporters say, "Where's Obama's birth certificate?" Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said it was his and his party's #1 goal to make Obama a one-term president, until he won reelection, and then the goal was to make him a lame-duck president. Throughout Obama's 8 years as president, he's dealt with obstruction over cooperation at an "unpresidented" clip. He's faced more asinine rumors than all other presidents combined. Don't believe me? Just check Snopes. So many of these same Trump supporters who are telling individuals who didn't vote for their candidate to deal with it and help bring the country together haven't accepted Barack Obama as their president for 8 years. That's hypocrisy at its purest. You can't insult people for 8 years, tell them you won't work with them, and then when a break goes your way, tell these same individuals, "Okay, now I'm in charge. Can't we all just get along?" I'm sorry, but it doesn't work that way.

Lastly, the last I heard, we're free in this country to believe as we so choose, so whether a person says Donald Trump isn't their president today, will never be their president, or will always be their president, agree with them or not, that's their right, and it's unAmerican to suggest that those who share a different opinion than you on this subject should get out of this country. If they wanted to be consistent with that line of thinking, they should have left 8 years ago when President Obama took office. If this author and his ilk can't support the 1st Amendment of the Constitution, he (they) can get the "f" out themselves. I hear Russia might be a good destination...

Boycotting jukeboxes because of TouchTunes

I love music and enjoy hitting the bar(s) over the weekend, so naturally, when the mood strikes me, I've never been coy about playing some songs on the jukebox. This past Thursday, a friend of mine turned 50, so several friends of her's, including myself, all met up to celebrate the occasion. At around 9:30, a friend of mine and I both chipped in $5 to play some songs on the jukebox. Four hours and 231 skips later, we gave up on hearing the songs we had selected, and went home knowing we had just wasted $5. This wasn't the first time such a thing had happened to me (and many others), and due to that, I'll be boycotting jukeboxes. Why? The scam known as TouchTunes. You see, here's how the plot typically breaks down. A person (or group of people) downloads the TouchTunes app on his/her phone, consumes one too many adult beverages, and due to this, has less care for spending extra money to hear the songs of their choosing right NOW. That's the thing with TouchTun...

The difference between "looking" and "checking out"

I may be way off with these numbers, but it's my approximation that at least 75% of individuals whom are involved in a serious relationship feel it's perfectly acceptable to "check out" members of the opposite sex they're not involved with. Meanwhile, approximately 25% either don't feel this is acceptable or aren't sure about the matter. I hadn't thought about this matter for a while, but since I've been dating a woman for about 8 months, the topic has been pondered about some. When reading or hearing others discuss this very issue, I often times hear comments similar to the following: "It's human nature to look." "There's nothing wrong with checking others out. I'm sure he/she does it too!" "It's fine to do it. Just don't tell your boyfriend/girlfriend about it or do it in front of them!" "It's natural to find people attractive." When observing the array of comments, I i...
