Conservative critics loved Michelle Obama's appearance at the Oscars about as much as I love skunks spraying me in the face
Yahoo movie blogger Mark Deming recently wrote an article which made me chuckle a bit. The title of this article was, "Michelle Obama's Oscar appearance getting thumbs down from conservative critics." What, like that's a surprise? I'd be more shocked to read that the capital city of New Hampshire is Concord (it is) than one that says conservative critics give Michelle Obama's guest appearance at the Oscars a thumbs down. When's the last time conservative critics praised Michelle Obama or any Obama for anything? I'll give you a week's worth of time to research the matter.
::a week passes us by::
Find anything yet? I didn't think so. The last time conservative critics praised Michelle Obama for anything will also be the first time they did such a thing.
So, what are conservative critics saying about the First Lady's appearance at the Oscars, as she read off the winner for Best Picture?
Conservative columnist of the Washington Post - Jennifer Rubin - said, "It is not enough that President Obama pops up at every sporting event in the nation. Now the first lady feels entitled, with military personnel as props, to intrude on other forms of entertaining (this time for the benefit of the Hollywood glitterati who so lavishly paid for her husband's election)."
That's right, Ms. Rubin. President Obama has indeed made his literal presence known at every sporting event in the nation. Being such a college basketball enthusiast, the president plans on making his presence known at the following games this coming Saturday: Alabama at Florida (12:00 PM EST), Butler at Virginia Commonwealth (also at 12:00 PM EST), Iowa State at Oklahoma (1:30 PM EST), West Virginia at Kansas (2:00 PM EST), Notre Dame at Marquette (also at 2:00 PM EST), Wichita State at Creighton (this is also at 2:00 PM EST), Connecticut at Cincinnati (this will start at 2:00 PM as well), Miami (Florida) at Duke (6:00 PM EST), Kansas State at Baylor (7:00 PM EST), Iowa at Indiana (7:30 PM EST), and Arizona at UCLA (9:00 PM EST). Obama will be stationed in both Florida and Virginia for two separate games at noon; be situated in Oklahoma an hour and a half later; find himself in Kansas, Wisconsin, Nebraska, and Ohio at 4:00; in North Carolina at 6:00; in Texas at 7:00; in Indiana at 7:30; and in California at 9:00. I've heard some wild conspiracy theories surrounding the president, but not until now had I heard one which claimed that the president has hundreds of clones.
Fox News' Todd Starnes chimed in about the First Lady's Oscars appearance, by saying, "Tonight was supposed to be about Hollywood - but Mrs. Obama made it about herself."
That's right. In a nearly four-hour ceremony where the First Lady spoke for about a minute, she was obviously making the night be about her. It's like that one time I heard someone introduce the main speaker through a fifteen-second speech of his own, and I thought, "The nerve of this guy! This night isn't about him! Don't you dare say, 'Let's now all welcome tonight's guest speaker - the kind, the generous, the brilliant Sly Stallone!'!. Just sit down and let the man speak! Geez!"
Bill O'Reilly joined the fun by calling Michelle Obama's Oscars appearance "Hollywood left boosterism." He also said, "Laura Bush would never at any time have introduced any award."
Au contraire, Mr. O'Really... Former First Lady Laura Bush recorded an appearance for the 2002 Academy Awards. He must have been talking about that other former First Lady Laura Bush... Ronald Reagan also made such an appearance at the 1980 Oscars. He was a former actor, though, so I guess that's excusable. What would Reagan do? Just as Michelle Obama did, but that's different for some inexplicable reason.
Saying conservative critics gave Michelle Obama a thumbs down for anything is like saying the sun sets at night (in most parts of the world anyway), the grass is green (usually), or machetes are sharp. If the First Lady let her hair grow out, these critics would complain that her hair was too long. If she had most of it chopped off, they'd criticize it for being too short. If she owned a gun, she'd be referred to as dangerous. If she didn't own a firearm, she'd be called anti-2nd Amendment. Conservative critics gave the First Lady a thumbs down? I haven't been this shocked since that time someone told me 5 + 5 = 10. Well, I better get going. I'm off to meet one of President Obama's 249 clones at a basketball game.
