Missouri state Rep. Mike Leara supports gun rights over human rights! Hooray!

Just recently, Missouri state Representative Mike Leara (Republican) proposed a bill which said the following - "...[a]ny member of the general assembly who proposes a piece of legislation that further restricts the right of an individual to bear arms, as set forth under the second amendment of the Constitution of the United States, shall be guilty of a class D felony."

Sure, this proposed bill ironically violates the Missouri Constitution, but still... Is Representative Leara really wanting to bring gun control debate to a screeching halt? Do Second Amendment rights trump First Amendment rights in his opinion? Don't the two kind of connect with one another in a way?

In Mr. Leara's mind, he seems to think, "Everyone should have the right to own and fire any gun of their choosing anywhere at any point in time. If someone doesn't want to own or fire a gun, that's their choice as well. However, if anyone wants to debate gun rights, he or she shall go to a pound-me-in-the-a*s prison for at least one life term, if not twenty-two of them. You know what? Check that. If anyone wants to debate gun rights, he or she shall be executed by way of a firing squad. Free speech for humans is overrated. Free speech for guns is what it's all about. My gun is an extension of me and when it goes off, I feel so much better. Whether or not I harm anyone in the process of firing my erect quick-strike gun is of no relevance. This is my right and their dissent shall not be heard. If it is heard, they shall be killed. Take that, First Amendment supporters!"

In light of this bit of news, it's rumored that Mr. Leara wants to pass legislation which would squelch debates on the following issues:

 - Taxes: If anyone even contemplates the raising of taxes on the wealthiest in this country, he or she shall see their taxes raised to former Republican President Dwight D. Eisenhower levels - over 90%! If some of the wealthiest support this, then that goes for you too!

- Gay marriage: If anyone wants to debate gay marriage rights, they will be considered gay by the state of Missouri and will be prohibited of ever getting married, having kids, or watching a film starring Chuck Norris.

- Equal pay: If any female expresses support for the equal pay rights of women, she shall be forced to have the word "FEMINAZI" tattooed to her forehead. If any male expresses support for the equal pay rights of women, he shall be neutered and forced to carry his balls in a little bag hanging around his neck, which reads, "I'VE GOT NO BALLS."

  1. Some politicians are undoubtedly loony wackadoodles. Maybe someone should propose a piece of legislation that states if Mr. Leara says anything crazy, he's guilty of a felony. He'd be screaming for his first amendment rights then.

  2. Yeah, if that were the case, I have a hunch Mr. Leara (and many others) would have started serving time many years ago.

By the way, I think you should copyright that term "loony wackadoodles," send it to Saturday Night Live, The Daily Show, and The Colbert Report and see what they can do with it. I have to admit, that term made me chuckle.

Boycotting jukeboxes because of TouchTunes

I love music and enjoy hitting the bar(s) over the weekend, so naturally, when the mood strikes me, I've never been coy about playing some songs on the jukebox. This past Thursday, a friend of mine turned 50, so several friends of her's, including myself, all met up to celebrate the occasion. At around 9:30, a friend of mine and I both chipped in $5 to play some songs on the jukebox. Four hours and 231 skips later, we gave up on hearing the songs we had selected, and went home knowing we had just wasted $5. This wasn't the first time such a thing had happened to me (and many others), and due to that, I'll be boycotting jukeboxes. Why? The scam known as TouchTunes. You see, here's how the plot typically breaks down. A person (or group of people) downloads the TouchTunes app on his/her phone, consumes one too many adult beverages, and due to this, has less care for spending extra money to hear the songs of their choosing right NOW. That's the thing with TouchTun...

Face guarding is legal in college football and the NFL

I just wanted to remind fans and announcers especially, that face guarding is legal in both college football and the NFL. It all comes down to contact. So long as a defender doesn't make contact with an intended receiver, he doesn't have to turn around to play the ball. I can't tell you how many times every week I hear announcers talk about face guarding being a penalty. It's not. I even heard one announcer yesterday state, "If the defender doesn't turn around and play the ball, the ref will call pass interference every time." That's simply not true. Courtesy of referee Bill LeMonnier, he says this with regard to the rule at the college level (answered on 8/12/13): "NCAA rules on pass interference require the face guarding to have contact to be a foul. No contact, no foul by NCAA rules." In the NFL rule book, this is written:  "Actions that constitute defensive pass interference include but are not limited to: (a) Contact by a ...
