An unlicensed mechanic speaks out against the "immorality" of homosexuals

I'm really getting tired of writing about stories like this, but unfortunately, they've seemed to be ubiquitous in recent days and weeks. Not long after Indiana's controversial RFRA bill was signed (Religious Freedom Restoration Act), a Grandville, Michigan auto repair shop has decided to let their discriminatory views be known.

Brian Klawiter, owner of the Dieseltec, decided to share these views on his Facebook page, where he wrote the following:

- "I am a Christian. My company will be run in a way that reflects that. Dishonesty, thievery, immoral behavior, etc., will not be welcomed at MY place of business. (I would not hesitate to refuse service to an openly gay person or persons. Homosexuality is wrong, period. If you want to argue this fact with me then I will put your vehicle together with all bolts and no nuts and you can see how that works.)"

- "Our rights as conservative Americans are being squashed more and more everyday. Apparently if you are white (or close to it), you have a job, go to church, and own a gun... That translates into racists, privileged, bigot, conspiracy theorist. Too many of us say nothing."

He didn't back down from these comments when WOOD TV inquired him about the matter, with Klawiter responding, "If you want to come in here with your boyfriend and you want to openly display that, that's just not going to be tolerated here. We don't believe that here."

The Dieseltec owner also said, "I've chosen to put God first in my life and that he owns everything in me and my business and beyond. Since that becomes a priority, I can't sacrifice my morals."

Humorously enough, Brian Klawiter is currently an unlicensed mechanic, which is a misdemeanor offense. He refused to renew his license when it expired in October of last year. Another unintentionally funny tidbit is that Klawiter offers discounts to customers whom bring in guns to the shop.

I find it funny that Mr. Klawiter talks himself up as being a good moral man and that he lives his life through God, yet the man has a criminal record and is currently an unlicensed mechanic which could result in another charge on that very record. Also, I'm not sure which Bible Klawiter has been reading, but I may have to check out the nearest Barnes & Noble for the version where Jesus shows off his massive gun collection while bashing homosexuals. As Jesus never said, "Let one without sin cast the first stone. That would be me. Screw the stones, though! Where's my AK-47, and where did those gay kids go?"

I also love the Dieseltec owner's attempt at rationalizing his behavior and even going so far as to insinuate that reverse discrimination against whites in this country is worse than any other kind of discrimination, which made Critical Thinking professors all over the country facepalm themselves to the point of a migraine. No, Mr. Klawiter, being an employed, church-going, gun-owning Anglo-American doesn't make a person a bigot; refusing service to someone due to their gender, race, creed, or orientation does. What would Jesus do? The opposite of you.

Boycotting jukeboxes because of TouchTunes

I love music and enjoy hitting the bar(s) over the weekend, so naturally, when the mood strikes me, I've never been coy about playing some songs on the jukebox. This past Thursday, a friend of mine turned 50, so several friends of her's, including myself, all met up to celebrate the occasion. At around 9:30, a friend of mine and I both chipped in $5 to play some songs on the jukebox. Four hours and 231 skips later, we gave up on hearing the songs we had selected, and went home knowing we had just wasted $5. This wasn't the first time such a thing had happened to me (and many others), and due to that, I'll be boycotting jukeboxes. Why? The scam known as TouchTunes. You see, here's how the plot typically breaks down. A person (or group of people) downloads the TouchTunes app on his/her phone, consumes one too many adult beverages, and due to this, has less care for spending extra money to hear the songs of their choosing right NOW. That's the thing with TouchTun...

The difference between "looking" and "checking out"

I may be way off with these numbers, but it's my approximation that at least 75% of individuals whom are involved in a serious relationship feel it's perfectly acceptable to "check out" members of the opposite sex they're not involved with. Meanwhile, approximately 25% either don't feel this is acceptable or aren't sure about the matter. I hadn't thought about this matter for a while, but since I've been dating a woman for about 8 months, the topic has been pondered about some. When reading or hearing others discuss this very issue, I often times hear comments similar to the following: "It's human nature to look." "There's nothing wrong with checking others out. I'm sure he/she does it too!" "It's fine to do it. Just don't tell your boyfriend/girlfriend about it or do it in front of them!" "It's natural to find people attractive." When observing the array of comments, I i...
