It continues to amaze me how limited many Americans' knowledge is of world geography. To many long-time residents of this country, it seems as if they feel the United States makes up 1/2 of the planet, with another 1/4 being water, and the other 1/4 being countries like England, Australia, China, and that one other one they can't think of at the moment. Former actress of the Cosby Show and star of the show That's So Raven, Raven-Symone, continued this seeming trend with a comment she made in a recent interview with E! News.
In this interview, the actress said the following:
"I never said I wasn't black, I said I wasn't African-American -- to me that's a difference. Thank you to Ancestry.com for sending me my DNA test ... I am from every continent in Africa except for one and I'm also from every continent in Europe except for one."
Yeah, it's too bad Ancestry.com didn't also send her a map and a dictionary, with bookmarks in the pages containing the words "continent" and "country." Due to her seeming lack of knowledge in world geography, except her to utter the following lines at some point in the future (if she hasn't already):
- "There are like 195 continents and 7 countries in the whole world, and that's like a lot and stuff, especially that first number."
- "Who's the greatest continent in the world? The United States of America! U.S.A.! U.S.A.! U.S.A.!"
- "Mexico is probably the continent that scares me the most. They're so close to us - our neighbors to the north, you know?"
- "Are the Netherlands and Holland two different continents or one?"
- "Is the country North America higher or lower on the map than the country South America?"
For her next segment, Raven-Symone will give us her insights on the 13 states in Canada and the 50 provinces in the United States. Stay tuned...
