I've had quite a bit of fun with these trending hashtags on Twitter in recent days: #TrumpANovel, #SourcesHaveConfirmed, #RejectedTrumpTVShows, #TrumpAHorrorMovie, #MakeAQuoteModern, #ExtremelyBadAdvice, and #WorldSeries. The pros and cons to owning a Siberian Husky

Through my 35 years, I've owned four dogs, one cockapoo (cocker spaniel/poodle mix) and three Siberian Huskies. My current dog, Lexi, is a 3-year-old husky (rescue dog). In case you or someone you know is thinking about buying a husky, here are some things you should probably know: Pros - Friendly : No matter what you've heard about huskies in the past, they are some of the friendliest dogs you could ever meet. If they're not running around and looking to play, you know something's wrong. My dog, Lexi, will play with anyone or anything. There are nights I have to remind her it's 2 o'clock in the morning and time to sleep. If she could play 24 hours a day, she would, and even then, that still wouldn't be enough. - Energetic : Until they reach older age, huskies tend to act like puppies. This is why they're fairly common "therapy" dogs. Even on the worst of days, my dog just has a way of cheering me up. They require a lot of exercise, so wit...

Touching on the Wild World of Sports

As long-time readers should know by now, I love sports. Unfortunately, with how crazy election season has been, I haven't had much time to write about the world of sports in recent months. So I thought I'd touch on the subject with a few comments and observations: - Congratulations to the Chicago Cubs and the Cleveland Indians on reaching the World Series. It's honestly hard for me to choose the side, for as I was growing up, both "Major League" (Cleveland Indians) and "Rookie of the Year" (Chicago Cubs) were showing in theaters. In the end, I think I'm leaning toward the Cubs, but if Willie Mays Hayes and Pedro Cerrano suit up for Cleveland, I may have to pull for the Indians. - People need to calm down about the Golden State Warriors' opening night dud against the San Antonio Spurs. The Warriors this year remind me of the Miami Heat in their first season with the trifecta Dwanye Wade, LeBron James, and Chris Bosh. While Miami finished the s...

Where things stand two weeks from the election

As of Tuesday, we were exactly two weeks away from election day, so I thought I'd delve into the odds and my own personal predictions. As of this moment, numbers-guru Nate Silver has Democratic nominee at an 84.2% chance of winning the election and Republican nominee Donald Trump at a 15.8% chance of winning. On average, Silver has Clinton winning 333.4 electoral votes and 49.6% of the popular vote, while he has Trump winning 203.3 electoral votes and 43.3% of the popular vote. Some of Silver's most surprising predictions (to this point) have to be the following:  1) Arizona (11 electoral votes): Clinton - 52.6%, Trump - 47.4% 2) Iowa (6 electoral votes): Clinton - 54.6%, Trump - 45.4% 3) Ohio (18 electoral votes): Clinton - 52.8%, Trump - 47.2% 4) North Carolina (15 electoral votes): Clinton - 67.4%, Trump - 32.6% 5) Florida (29 electoral votes): Clinton - 69.7%, Trump - 30.3% With the increase in Latino voters, Arizona has been a state Democrats hav...

Clinton vs. Trump - Round 3: When a Man Became a Baby

Chris Wallace: "Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to the third and final presidential debate. I'd like everyone in our audience to place duct tape over their mouths and around their hands for the rest of the debate, but you may now applaud the two most unpopular presidential candidates in this country's history, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump." Audience: Standing golf-clap Wallace: "Thank you. Now let's get right to it, shall we? There's been much talk of the Supreme Court and how the two of you may very well be able to shape SCOTUS for decades to come. So what are your thoughts on the Supreme Court, the justices you may potentially bring to the table, and what you hope SCOTUS looks like in the future. Secretary Clinton, we'll start with you." Hillary Clinton: "Thanks, Chris, and thanks to the University of Nevada-Las Vegas for having this debate. Give me an R, an E, a B, an E, an L, an S. What's that spell? Rebels!...

Trump's Gettysburg Address

"Four lies and seven mistresses ago I brought forth so many, like lots of many things on this great bordering country of Russia, and have always been dedicated to grabbing women by the pussy without proposition. Now we're engaged in a yuge war against facts. Mm... Big words, big league words, bigliest words. Have I told anyone here I have the best words? Because I do, believe me. Anyway, as it says in Two Corinthians, 'Being vain is kind of cool.' Yeah, you know what I'm talkin' about. I'll be devoted to this country like I have been to my three wives and hundreds of women on the side, I guarantee it. It's about freedom, folks - about this government being voted in by the people, ruling the people, and not representing the people. Amen, or whatever." http://www.abrahamlincolnonline.org/lincoln/speeches/gettysburg.htm

How the Monster Known as Donald Trump Was Created

I can't count the number of times I've heard or read Republicans state during this election cycle, "How did this happen? How did Donald Trump become our nominee? He's not representative of the party!" Sadly, the monster known as Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has been in the making for a number of years, and as far as the modern-day GOP is concerned, he is representative. Let's first take a look at how Donald Trump has been able to win support through the 2016 election process: 1) Stoking fear about Mexicans; 2) Casting Muslims as terrorists or, at the very least, terrorist sympathizers; 3) Resorting to online conspiracies over fact-checkers debunking said conspiracies; 4) Painting Democrats as criminals; 5) Depicting minorities as moochers; 6) Repeating falsehoods and fallacies; 7) Disrespecting women; 8) Specifics are for suckers; 9) The mainstream media is lame; 10) Failure is spelled c-o-m-p-r-o-m-i-s-e, 11) Symbols over substance; 12) Shou...

Voting anti-establishment doesn't always bring positive change

The only argument I can understand as to why some people still insist on voting for Donald Trump is out of protest. That's it. They see the man as an outsider to the federal government (which isn't entirely true), are angry at the government, and want to see a big shake-up by providing a couple of middle fingers to this nation's capital. In saying that, however, while I can understand these individuals' feelings on the matter, allow me to just say that the "anti-establishment" candidate isn't always the "change-for-the-better" candidate. Let's think about this for a moment here. With Hillary Clinton, we basically know what she's going to bring to the table as president. Yes, with some slight differentiation, she will bring to Washington a third Obama term. Is that really so bad, though? Under President Obama, we've gone from losing 800,000 jobs a month to regularly gaining 200,000+ jobs per month. We've gone from a large percent...

Dismissing a word in the future doesn't remove its history

A couple of weeks ago, I observed an interesting debate between two friends of mine concerning the power of words and whether or not we could universally erase a select few. One seemed to believe that words possess only as much power as people provide them, that they can mean nothing if we treat them as such, and if we stop using them in the future, they'll all but vanish. The other seemed to disagree with this notion, as they mentioned how a few words got under their skin more than any other, and that whether or not we uttered such words in the future, that wouldn't remove their affect on us. First of all, as a writer, I'm inherently biased toward the power of words. I'm also a believer that less is often more when it comes to certain words. If an individual rarely uses what's considered to be profane language, when he or she does utter such a word, it often times lands a bigger punch than if the stereotypical drunken sailor utters such a remark. It should also b...

Trumpsters' trending hashtag #HillaryGropedMe spells "deplorable" and "desperation"

Over the past week, Trump supporters have started these trending hashtags: #RepealThe19th, #NextFakeTrumpVictim, and just a couple of days ago, #HillaryGropedMe. For those who aren't aware, the 19th Amendment provides women the right to vote. The hashtag #NextFakeTrumpVictim got under my skin, as it insinuated all 12 women whom have come forward with allegations against Donald Trump to this point are lying, but not as much as the hashtag #HillaryGropedMe did, which I think spells deplorable and desperation . An alleged friend of the family of Rachel Crooks, one of the women whom accused the Republican presidential nominee of violating her, stated in a Facebook post that she felt Ms. Crooks was lying, apparently meaning she was, as were the other 11 women. Of course, if one were to look at this friend's Facebook page (Lona Burnstein of Columbus, Ohio), they could see point-blankly she is a die-hard Trump supporter and provided no evidence to prove Ms. Crooks was in fact lying ...
