It's largely known Utah Representative Jason Chaffetz has a way with numbers, and due to that, has decided to take the next step forward and become a college math professor.
Earlier this year, Representative Chaffetz blew the minds of many when he lectured Planned Parenthood foes and supporters on the family planning organization's services, providing a chart which showcased that, while cancer screening & prevention services have decreased over the past 7 years, abortion procedures have increased in that same time-frame, and due to that, the 327,000 abortions Planned Parenthood was responsible for in 2013 was greater than the 935,573 cancer screening & prevention services the organization provided in that same year.
Given that, the Utah Representative was kind enough to send me a copy of his first class lecture, which will go as follows:
"For our first class, I'm going to talk to you about numbers, but not just any numbers; I'm going to talk to you about special numbers, big numbers, small numbers, all kinds of numbers. I especially want to talk to you about comparing numbers. Is 1,000,000 less than 7? Is it greater than 7? Is it equal to 7? Keeping that in mind, Benghazi. To the best of my knowledge, 0 Americans were killed in Benghazi attacks in the year 2011, but sadly, 4 were killed there in 2012. So, in other words, we saw a huge increase in American deaths in Benghazi between those two years. When it comes to gun violence, it was reported that, in 2009, 31,593 people died of gun violence, but that number went down to 31,347 in 2009. Here's the chart showing what I just told you. As you can see, before 2012, that number in Benghazi was 0, but it shot up to 4 in 2012. But deaths via gun violence went down from 2009-2010, which means there were fewer gun-related deaths in 2010 than there were Benghazi-related deaths in 2012, because 31,347 is less than 4. Are there any questions?"
After reading the lecture, I called Representative Chaffetz and asked him, "If the math from your lecture is correct, is the narrator from the Flonase commercial incorrect when he says, '6 is greater than 1'?" In response, the Utah Representative said, "Well, what's the chart say?" Flonase has since decided to alter its tagline to, "6 is greater than 1, unless you're Jason Chaffetz!"
