Just recently, a Canadian entrepreneur proved it is very possible to simultaneously be a millionaire and an idiot.
On The Lang & O'Leary Exchange, Canadian millionaire Kevin O'Leary said the following with regard to a recent report about the rise in income inequality:
"It's fantastic! This is a great thing because it inspires everybody, gets them motivation to look up to the one percent and say, 'I want to become one of those people, I'm going to fight hard to get up to the top. this is fantastic news and of course I'm going to applaud it! What can be wrong with this?"
Co-host Amanda Lang then stared at him with the classic I-can't-believe-what-you-just-said look, and said, "Really?"
O'Leary responded with, "Yes, really. I celebrate capitalism."
Lang then countered with this: "So somebody living on $1 a day in Africa is getting up in the morning and saying, 'I'm going to be Bill Gates'?"
O'Leary then contended, "That's the motivation everybody needs. Don't tell me that you want to redistribute wealth again. That's never going to happen, OK? It's a celebratory stat. I'm very excited about it."
The report was released by anti-poverty group Oxfam, and included the following conclusion with regard to the numbers:
"This massive concentration of economic resources in the hands of fewer people presents a significant threat to inclusive political and economic systems. Instead of moving forward together, people are increasingly separated by economic and political power, inevitably heightening social tensions and increasing the risk of societal breakdown."
Now, allow me to juxtapose the report's conclusion with Mr. O'Leary's words of wisdom.
Report: "This rise in income inequality 'heightens social tensions and increases the risk of societal breakdown."
Kevin O'Leary: "It's fantastic! This is a great thing! I'm very excited about it!"
For showing excitement over the rise of income inequality and with that, the greater chance of societal breakdown, Kevin O'Leary, you sir, are my douche of the day! Congratulations!
