The trivia game show Jeopardy is in some hot water due to a category they aired on Monday. The category was, "What Women Want." Sure, that may not sound so bad, but hold off with judgment until you read the "answers" in this category. They included:
- "Some help around the house; would it kill you to get out the Bissell bagless canister one of these every once in a while?"
- "A few moments of quiet to do this, especially the one edited by Will Shortz in The New York Times"
- "A pair of jeans that fit well, like the 525s from this brand"
- "Time to exercise; perhaps a class in this discipline named for founder Joseph, who initially called it contrology"
Yes, when word got around about this, Twitter exploded, and among many others, the following messages were posted on the site:
- "#whatwomenwant: what are rights over their own reproductive health? what is the end to rape culture? what is an apology from @jeopardy?"
- "#whatwomenwant: what is to be an equal member of society? what is equal pay? what is to not be reduced to a sexist @jeopardy category?"
- "#whatwomenwant - For the value of their labour inside and outside of the home to be recognized."
- "'I'll take #whatwomenwant for 200, Alex.' A clean house, a satisfied husband, and lots of shoes!' 'What are outdated stereotypes?'"
While Jeopardy is at it, perhaps they can continue to anger folks by airing a week filled with stereotypical categories and answers, such as the following:
Category: What Black People Want
Answer: "It is said by some elderly drunks on Friday nights that 3/4 of black people play this sport just as they start walking."
Question: "What is basketball?"
Category: What Gay Men Want
Answer: "After a bad date at a sports bar called 'Penetrate The Line,' a gay man will go home and listen to this musician to end the night on a good note."
Question: "Who is Bette Midler?"
Category: What Muslims Want
Answer: "According to most right-wing talk show hosts and men by the name of Billy-Bob, terrorism is the focal point of this religion."
Question: "What is Islam?"
Category: What Mexicans Want
Answer: "In a study I just concocted in my mind, just about every Mexican in this country can't speak this language very well."
Question: "What is English?"
Category: What Lesbians Want
Answer: "Most straight guys believe pretty lesbian women are this."
Question: "What is confused?"
To end this writing, I have an answer and question of my own:
Answer: "This show's views are outdated."
Question: "What is Jeopardy?"
That's correct.
