In defense of Jadeveon Clowney...

Superfreak South Carolina defensive end Jedeveon Clowney has been on the receiving end of some pretty heavy-duty criticism from ESPN and sports-writers in general for his play in last night's 27-10 victory over South Carolina in the team's opener. All off-season long, ESPN has been hyping Clowney up as the greatest defensive player college football has ever seen - as if he's going to break every record known to man in video game like fashion. While Clowney was taken out of the game on several occasions last night and appeared fatigued throughout the contest which yielded him minimal results, there's a good reason for that - he has been battling a stomach virus.  I'm sorry to disappoint ESPN and other sports-writers, but even a "freak" like Clowney won't be able to be at his peak on the field while battling a stomach virus, having eaten just a banana and a few grapes all day, and dealing with the hot, muggy Southeast weather. Give the guy a b...

Mitch McConnell talks one way and votes another on women's issues

Kentucky senator and man who believes turtles are a man's best friend - Mitch McConnell - released a document on Friday which touted his support for VAWA (Violence Against Women Act). In the document, a voter is quoted to have said: "Mitch was the co-sponsor of the original Violence Against Women Act - and continues to advocate for stronger policies to protect women. I am proud to call him my senator." There's just one small problem with that. While McConnell did sponsor VAWA in 1991, he didn't support it in '93, and voted against it in '94, 2012, and 2013. One out of five isn't bad, though - right, ladies? McConnell also voted against the Lilly Ledbetter Act and Paycheck Fairness Act, because McConnell said they'd "make the workplace more difficult for women." Yes, because equal pay for women would add so much stress to their lives and make paying their bills so much more difficult. Then the Elder Mutant Ninja Turtle's wife -...

Christian radio show hosts claim gays commit half the murders in big cities

How I wish media personalities would get heavily fined for lying. Rush Limbaugh would have been out of a job years ago, as would most of the Fox News personalities. Glenn Beck and Alex Jones would be in insane asylums, because no matter how many times they'd get told to pay their fines for lying on the air, they'd adamantly defend their points as truthful, which could only lead them to the loony bin. That brings me to Bradlee Dean and Jake McMillan - hosts of the Christian radio show Sons of Liberty Radio . They'd get heavily fined for the lie they just recently told. On their show this past week, the insane duo made the claim that homosexuals are responsible for half of the murders in big US cities. McMillan specifically said: "...half of the murders in large cities were committed by homosexuals; thirty-three percent of child abuse cases were committed by homosexuals; half of the foster children molestations were done by homosexuals." He followed that up by...

A Polish woman takes the phrase "gets around" to a whole new level

So, I read a crazy article today. A 21-year old Polish woman by the name of Ania Lisewska has announced to the world that she has a goal in life - to sleep with 100,000 men from all over the world. She claims to have slept with 284 guys to this point. Oh, and by the way, did I mention she has a boyfriend? Upon reading the article, I had to chuckle at Lisewska's boyfriend's comments with regard to her sexual journey - saying he was "not thrilled" about it, but would have to "come to terms" with it. That conversation must have been quite something. Her: "Okay, so just so you know, I still want for us to be together...forever, but there's something I need to tell you." Him: "Oh, oh. What would that be?" Her: "It's my life's goal to have sex with 100,000 men - from all over the world." Him: "Wait...what?" Her: "You know how I've always wanted to travel the world, right?" Him: "Y...

A young NRA member comments on a pro-gun control blog of mine

About once a month I'm greeted with a lovely response to a blog of mine which includes so many right-wing talking points and bumper-sticker slogans, it presents me with the challenge of, "Can I think of any more?" Often times I give up after about two minutes of thinking over that very question. Just this morning I was greeted with such a comment - this in response to a pro-gun control blog I wrote in wake of the school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut. This individual, who came across as a high school NRA member, responded to the blog with this: "liberal lackies know they are saying stupid comments but do so to take focus away from the real issues.... the fact is that no gun law will take guns away from criminals... we already have a law that says a criminal cannot own/possess/have-access-to firearms yet every day, in every state of the union, crime is being committed by criminals, many with stolen, smuggled, or otherwise illegally possessed weapons t...

David Marsters believes that the words "Shoot the ni**er" aren't threatening or racist. I believe he's "speshal."

David Marsters lives in Sabattus, Maine, and is a conservative candidate for a town position there. He just recently received a visit from the Secret Service after he posted an article about President Obama on Facebook, along with the words, "Shoot the n****r." After receiving the visit, Marsters said this: "[They] didn't see no pictures of Obama with bullet holes in his head. It's not a threatening statement, in my opinion, People take it out of context as a threat." He also claimed he wasn't a racist, saying, "White people are n****rs, too." As if this wasn't enough, Marsters told the Bangor Daily News  that due to Obamacare, his wife will no longer have health insurance, saying, "I'm pissed off at the system, OK. We're about to lose our benefits because of this a**hole." First off, that Obamacare myth has been debunked, so Mr. Marsters can refrain from insulting the president - or in his mind, complimenting hi...

Pennsylvania Governor Corbett's attorneys compare gay marriage to child marriage

In suburban Philadelphia, Willis D. Bruce Hanes has issued more than 150 same-sex marriage licenses, and Republican Governor Tom Corbett's administration has filed a lawsuit on the matter to invalidate those very marriages. Corbett's attorney's went on to say that the marriage licenses can't be defended in court due to a 1996 law saying that marriage is between a man and a woman, before making this strange and ridiculous comparison: "Had the clerk issued marriage licenses to 12-year-olds in violation of state law, would anyone seriously contend that each 12-year-old ... is entitled to a hearing on the validity of his 'license'?" Before the case comes to a close, I have a feeling Corbett's attorneys will also make the following comparisons to same-sex marriages: - "Had the clerk issued marriage licenses to mannequins in violation of state law, would anyone seriously contend that each mannequin is entitled to hearing on the validity of its...

In office or out of office, Joe Walsh can't help but be an idiot

Almost a year after his one-term stint ended as an Illinois Representative, Tea Party favorite Joe Walsh is once again making headlines for some incendiary comments he made - this time courtesy of his radio show.  To "honor" the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "I have a dream speech," Walsh said the following on his radio show, which has been posted on the show's website, titled, "My Own Dream For America": "Of all the commentators who have been asking whether King's dream has been achieved, FOX News' Juan Williams seems to be the only one with whom I agree. When asked by Chris Wallace if the dream has been fulfilled, Williams noted that there isn't, 'any question that [African Americans] have come along way,' before importantly pointing out that blacks have to address the problems that are created within their own communities. 'I think that if you look at the realities of today, you've got to t...

Can't we keep our love lives private anymore?

Why do some people think the world needs to know about their love lives via Facebook statuses? I might be in the minority on this anymore, but I just don't understand that. Wouldn't it come across as more heartfelt, spontaneous, and genuine to tell a significant other what you feel for them face-to-face or at the very least, over the telephone (no, not through texting)? Doesn't spreading that very message to hundreds of friends and family members through Facebook kind of detract from the sentiments coming across as genuine? These statuses just come across as phony to me, which is why I'll never post them. If I truly want to emotionally touch a person I love, I'm going to express those feelings directly to them and not just hope that they read it along with hundreds of others.  Also, what is with people "liking" some of these statuses? Is it just the thought of, "Well, he'd/she'd probably like that I 'like' this, so I will." or ...

MLK would be shaking his head at the Golf Channel

Today is the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I have a dream" speech. How did the Golf Channel decide to celebrate the occasion? By tweeting this: "Tweet your 'golf' dream on the 50th anniversary of MLK's 'I have a Dream' speech using: #DreamDay: I have a dream that..." Yes, dreaming about a hole-in-one is just like dreaming that we're all treated as equals, regardless of the color of our skin... http://thinkprogress.org/sports/2013/08/28/2542961/golf-channel-martin-luther-king/

New Jersey Senate candidate Steve Lonegan knows how to be a "real man!"

Alright, what is it with this "real man" talk the past couple of days? It was reported yesterday that a group in Tucson, Arizona was spreading around flyers about an openly gay board member at a school in the area, saying they wanted a "real man" at the position. Then today, the "real man" talk continued - this time courtesy of Republican New Jersey Senate candidate Steve Lonegan. When talking about his opponent - Democrat Cory Booker - Lonegan said the following to Newsmax's Steve Malzberg: "As a guy, I personally like being a guy. I don't know if you saw the stories last year, they've been out quite a bit, about how he likes to go out at three-o'clock in the morning for a manicure and a pedicure. Maybe that helps him get the gay vote, by acting ambiguous. Although I don't like going out in the middle of the night, or any time of day, for manicures and pedicures. It was described as his peculiar fetish, is how it was described...

Cookie Monster shall be the next Fox News health expert

On Fox & Friends yesterday, Fox News health expert and man who thinks health is the opposite of heaven - David Samadi - said this with regard to his belief that men shouldn't pay as much as women for health insurance: "We only have the prostate. Women have the breasts, the ovaries, the uterus, they get checked in every part. Look, it's not bias, I'm not saying this as a man. [Women] go through a lot of preventive screenings, they give birth, they have the whole mammogram, the Pap smear. Guys, we don't like to go to the doctors, right?" Mr. Samadi is quite the expert indeed. "We only have the prostate. Women have the breasts, the ovaries, the uterus..." Yet, a fairly recent study shows that men are 1.5 to 2 times more likely to die from cancer than women. While there's approximately a 1 in 2 chance that men will develop cancer at least once in their lives, there's a 1 in 3 chance for women. So, as you were saying, Fox News health ...

Pat Robertson said what?

There can be no mistaking it - televangelist Pat Robertson is crazier than Tom Cruise hopped up on speed while on the  Oprah Winfrey Show . He's let loose more facepalm-inducing quotes than drunken Richard Pryor-impersonating sailors have let the F-bomb slip. Robertson's latest such statement he made during a recent episode of The 700 Club , where he said this: "You know what they do in San Francisco? Some in the gay community there, they want to get people. So if they got the stuff (AIDS) they'll have a ring, you shake hands and the ring's got a little thing where you cut your finger. Really. It's that kind of vicious stuff, which would be the equivalent of murder." Yeah, that kind of thing REALLY happens, Pat. Here's how such an event would transpire: Lance Lancestopherson (the most flamboyant gay man in the world): ::ponders to himself:: "Who should I infect today with my magical AIDS ring? It's about time I get with the program and...

Another ESPN article which makes me ask the question, "Why?"

Like with the article I wrote about yesterday, which claimed that New York Jets starting quarterback Mark Sanchez wasn't going to second-guess head coach Rex Ryan's ridiculous decision to put him in behind an inexperienced offensive line in the 4th quarter of the team's third preseason game, I'm again asking "why?" with regard to an ESPN article which was published today - as in, "Why did this article ever need to be written?" The headline of today's article is, "Robert Kraft 'rooting for' Tim Tebow." Tebow completed just 1 of 7 pass attempts in the team's August 16th preseason game, for -1 yard, and an interception. He didn't play at all in the game last Thursday. So, what is no one outside of ESPN asking? "Will Tim Tebow make the 53-man roster?" I don't know, but let's ask New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft about matters. In response to such a question, Kraft said this: "I'm rooti...

A writing of mine has been posted in The Tucson Daily

Last week, I mentioned that a writing of mine had been posted on the news/writing site The Wordsmith Daily . Similarly, I just discovered this morning a recent writing of mine has been posted on the news site The Tucson Daily .  If you're at all curious of checking it out, it can be found at the following link toward the bottom of the page under the section labeled "Society," and the title of the writing is, "Homophobic group wants to see a 'real man' as school board member of Sunnyside." http://paper.li/EmmyBasch/1305770136

Info on my Facebook business, Twitter, and Tumblr pages

Here's the URL to my Facebook business page. I update it fairly regularly, but still haven't put forth a great deal of effort yet in researching matters and attempting to make the most out of it. In any case, it can be perused here: http://www.facebook.com/AuthorCraigRozniecki?ref=hl Up next is my Twitter page. I'm still not 100% certain what I'm doing on there yet, but feel I'm gradually getting the hang of it and am up to 2,735 followers. I update it daily with many of my own tweets, but also by retweeting some others'. It can be found here: https://twitter.com/CraigRozniecki Lastly, here's my Tumblr page, which I've neglected quite a bit recently, but if you're at all curious, you can find it at the following link: http://www.tumblr.com/blog/rozzy81

Mark Sanchez doesn't second-guess Rex Ryan's bonehead decision...publicly, that is...

After New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan's bonehead decision to insert starting quarterback Mark Sanchez in the 4th quarter of the team's third preseason game with an inexperienced line protecting him and getting injured as a result, Sanchez, luckily listed as day-to-day, said, "I'm not here to second-guess the coaches. If they call you to play, you better be ready to play, and I was. So I went in and and played and tried to win." He added: "Look, I'm a competitor. And as a player, it's not my job to worry about when you're going in, who's in, what string, this or that. If they call your number, you've got to play and that's what I do, that's what I've always done. That's not my call. That's the coach's decision." What else did ESPN expect Sanchez to say? So long as the guy is healthy, he's going to start at quarterback for the Jets, so why publicly speak out against his coach's facepalm-inducing dec...

Homophobic group wants to see a "real man" as school board member of Sunnyside

Flyers are being spread about Tucson, Arizona by a group that wants to recall openly gay Sunnyside District School Board Member Daniel Hernandez, Jr. Along with a picture of Hernandez, the flyer says this: "Put a REAL  Man on the Sunnyside Board (picture) Daniel Hernandez is LGBT We need someone who will support Sports and cares about our kids. We don't need someone who hates our values RECALL Daniel Hernandez TODAY" Yes, because all gay men hate sports and don't care about kids, especially those whom are school board members. Also, to hate sports is to not care about kids apparently. I think this group may be confused on what LGBT stands for. It would have made sense to have stated that Hernandez is gay or that he is LGBT-friendly, but it's impossible for anyone to be LGBT. Daniel Hernandez may be a lot of things to a lot of people, but he's not a lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender. The headline of the flyer I found to be both hilario...

About that Miley Cyrus performance - I disagree with both the far-right and far-left

When it comes to most things, I'm fairly progressive (the evil "L" word) - whether it be in the realm of politics or arts and entertainment. I've seen the likes of Alice Cooper, Marilyn Manson, and Kiss perform live if that tells you anything. However, when it comes to the topic of sex, I'm a bit more moderate or even slightly conservative (as far as the literal definition goes, not the political one). I've never been tempted to live a promiscuous lifestyle, have never accepted a woman's proposition for a one-night stand (and I've received several), and don't find myself attracted to women whom engage in this kind of behavior or reveal more cleavage than clothing with the outfits they wear.  That brings me to the much discussed Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke performance at the MTV Video Music Awards a couple of nights ago (why MTV still has a VMA show is beyond me considering they show about as many music videos as the Hallmark Channel shows Oscar...

I'm just going to say it - Ted Cruz ate paint chips as a kid

Texas Senator and man known to speak in the third-person to his wife - Ted Cruz - just yesterday told CNN's Candy Crowley that he thinks President Obama may potentially sign a bill defunding Obamacare if he were presented with one. Once again, no, this information did not come courtesy of The Onion . The back-and-forth went as follows: CRUZ: "What I agree with is I think now is the single best time to stop Obamacare, because there's bipartisan agreement that it's not working. The wheels are coming off. And because defunding it, if it doesn't happen now, it's likely never to happen." CROWLEY: "The president is never going to sign a bill that defunds Obamacare." CRUZ: "You know, you may be convinced to that." CROWLEY: "You're not convinced to that?" CRUZ: "I am not at all." CROWLEY: "This is his signature. This is what they consider his signature achievement, so far, of his administration in its fi...

Nonsensical Response Tweets

Last night, I came up with the following tweet, which generated multiple likes and retweets: "Why are many who believe in predestination so paranoid about Obama? Did an omnipotent God make a mistake or something?" A far-right friend of mine responded with this: "Proverbs 14:34 says, 'Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.' We get the leaders we deserve." How did that answer my question? If someone who is paranoid about Obama believes a higher power granted us all free will, then that would make perfect sense. However, if this paranoid-about-Obama individual believes in predestination, then how would it make sense to be paranoid about President Obama? If his election and re-election as President of the United States were predestined by God, then are these individuals admitting that God made a mistake or that there is no such thing as predestination? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? I didn't think so.

A strange movie review

I read a rather strange movie review from a friend of mine on Facebook today. It was with regard to the new Simon Pegg and Nick Frost film - The World's End  - which I want to see, but have yet to do so. The review read as follows: "The World's End was a fantastic movie. Probably the best one I have watched all year. Inside the comedy you find a very good understanding about the nature of humanity and why every single nation or group of people who have ever tried to 'make society better or utopian' has failed in it's endeavors as well as a good message about what it means to be a good friend. Five out of Five stars" While I can understand the claim that any nation that has attempted to make itself a utopia has failed to do so, to try and improve a nation is quite different than trying to make it a utopia. To claim that any nation which has tried to make "society better" has failed to do so is quite the statement to make, and also quite ina...

Philly writers appear to be pulling for Nick Foles over Michael Vick

Following the Philadelphia Eagles' 31-24 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars last night in the team's third preseason game, many Philly sports-writers were quick to label starting quarterback Michael Vick as "shaky," all the while praising the play of backup quarterback Nick Foles. While Foles was very efficient in the second half of last night's game and has been for most of the preseason, I'm still slightly perplexed on the myriad of such articles which were published by Philadelphia writers either last night or this morning. Vick wasn't as sharp in last night's game as he had been in the team's first two preseason games. He completed 15 of 23 pass attempts (65.2%) for 184 yards (8.0 ypa and 12.3 ypc), with 1 touchdown pass and 1 interception. In his defense, the interception was on a pass Vick was trying to throw away while getting hit. However, he held onto the ball too long and would have avoided the pick if he had tossed the ball out-of-...

Oh, Rex Ryan - what in the world were you thinking?

After New York Jets' rookie quarterback Geno Smith got picked off three times in yesterday's preseason game against the New York Giants, it appeared as if the quarterback competition had been settled and Mark Sanchez was going to be the starter heading into the regular season. That was until head coach Rex Ryan decided to put Sanchez in the game with just 11:21 remaining in the 4th quarter and Sanchez got hit, injuring his throwing shoulder in the process. The severity of the injury is unknown at this point. After the game, Ryan basically said he placed Sanchez in to try and win the game. It's a preseason game. While preseason games can help a team build chemistry and help coaches decide on whom to start and whom to cut, they're not going to play any factor on whether or not a team makes the playoffs - that is, barring a serious injury to a key player. While Geno Smith was given an opportunity to showcase his skills against a first-team defense in this game, he made i...

36% of people still think one's sexual orientation can be changed

While it appears that numbers are moving in the right direction, a new Pew Research poll shows that 36% of the U.S. population still feels that one's sexual orientation can be changed, while 51% does not. The numbers were 39 and 49 percent in a similar poll taken in 2006, and 42 and 42 percent in a 2003 poll. I guess I have one question for 36% of the country, whom I'm guessing are heterosexual. ::clears throat:: For the 36% of heterosexuals whom feel sexual orientation can be changed, do you think someone could turn you gay? ::waits for them all to pause before saying no:: Alright, thanks for playing. Feel free to join me again on the next episode of  Answering a Poll Question Before Thinking About It . See you soon. http://www.pewforum.org/2012/07/31/two-thirds-of-democrats-now-support-gay-marriage-long-term-views-gay-marriage-adoption/#views-homosexuality

ESPN needs to relax about the Patriots pre-season game last night

Last night, the Detroit Lions pummeled the New England Patriots by the final score of 40-9 in the teams' third pre-season game. This has already gotten ESPN fired up, where they're blowing things out-of-proportion like Fox News does regarding anyone with the last name of Obama.  ESPN already aired a televised segment entitled "Patriots Panic Meter," released an article where the first line read, "I know it's just a pre-season game, but...," and Vegas odds have it at 1 : 2 that someone affiliated with the organization will at some point today ask the question, "Have the Patriots lost it?" Psst... It's just a pre-season game. Two weeks from now, every team will be 0-0 and this game will have meant next to nothing as far as records and playoff chances are concerned. Quarterback Tom Brady just played the first half, and while his Patriots trailed 16-3 at halftime, that was a much more respectable score than what it wound up being. If he ...

A reminder to Republicans - President Obama will not get impeached

There's been a growing chorus of Congressional Republicans whom have recently been calling for the impeachment of President Barack Obama. Sure, the Republican Party controls the House of Representatives, but the Democratic Party controls the Senate, and in order to impeach a president, two-thirds of the Senate has to approve of the measure. Since Democrats control 55 of 100 seats, that's next to impossible. All 45 Republican Senators would have to approve of Obama's impeachment, along with 22 Democratic Senators. If the GOP hopes to do this after the 2014 midterm elections, good luck there as well. They'd need to maintain control of the House and pick up 22 seats in the Senate. I have a better chance at winning the lottery than the GOP has of impeaching President Obama.

Manager training guide insinuates women are to blame for being sexually harassed by male coworkers

I, for one, am sick and tired of the victims receiving the brunt of the blame. Jhana - "an online resource with articles and tools for managers used by employees at Google, Groupon, Eventbrite, Modcloth, and Ask.com" - recently published an article entitled, "What if a male colleague gets the wrong idea?" Yes, I'm sure you read that correctly and got the right idea upon reading it. The article dealt with how women should deal with and how they can prevent unwanted sexual advances while at work. Fortunately, the article has been taken down, but here was some of the advice it laid out for women and how they can prevent such unwanted advances in the workplace: "- If you act the same way - always professional, but also always like yourself - around everyone, the problematic colleague will be less likely to get the idea that you're coming on to him. One caveat: If you're touchy-feely or flirtatious by nature, you might want to dial it back around h...

Dr. Phil's controversial tweet

Television talk show host Dr. Phil (McGraw) has come under fire for a tweet he posted Tuesday on Twitter. The tweet said, "If a girl is drunk, is it OK to have sex with her? Reply yes or no to @drphill #teenaccused" This has resulted in a Change.org petition going around, which has already resulted in over 800 signatures. It's also resulted in some angry responses before the tweet was finally removed. Here are a few examples of these very responses: - "Dr Oz was saving lives today and Dr. Phil is trying to hook up with drunk girls where is @oprah she needs to have an emergency team meeting" - "If Dr. Phil is drunk is it okay for him to tweet?" - "If a person is a misogynist, is it OK to just refer to him as 'Dr. Phil' from now on? #DrPhilQuestions" Now, it's ridiculous to think that Dr. Phil was "trying to hook up with drunk girls," as one responder claims, since the talk show host was likely just trying to gar...

More Louisiana Republicans blame the poor Hurricane Katrina response on President Obama than Bush

Hurricane Katrina went down as one of the five deadliest hurricanes in United States history - resulting in 1,833 deaths and approximately $81 billion in property damage. This occurred in August of 2005, when George W. Bush was serving his second term as president. Bush's delayed and awful response played a major factor in his plummeting approval ratings in the succeeding months and years of his tenure. Why do I bring this up now - 8 years after the fact? Because Public Policy Polling (PPP) just released a poll which asked Louisiana Republicans the following question - "Who do you think was more responsible for the poor response to Hurricane Katrina: George W. Bush or Barack Obama?" The results for this question are: George W. Bush - 28% Barack Obama - 29% Not sure - 44% I'm not sure which is worse - the fact that more Louisiana Republicans feel that Barack Obama is more responsible for the poor response to Hurricane Katrina than George W. Bush, when Bush ...

A "quick history lesson" on racism in the U.S. via a Facebook post

Yet again, the Republican Party is attempting to "rebrand" themselves as a more tolerant party by looking at the (ancient) history of the two parties. Just last night, I saw this post on Facebook: "Quick history lesson: 13th Amendment: Abolished slavery 100% Republican Support 23% Democratic Support 14th Amendment: Gave citizenship to freed slaves 94% Republican support 0% Democratic support 15th Amendment: Right to vote for all 100% Republican support 0% Democratic support" For the record, the 13th Amendment passed in 1865, which was 148 years ago. The 14th Amendment was ratified in 1868, or 145 years ago. Lastly, the 15th Amendment was ratified in 1870 - 143 years ago. Let's look at these three years, shall we? 1865 - Abraham Lincoln was president, and later assassinated - The New York Stock Exchange opened its first permanent headquarters - The Salvation Army was founded - The first edition of Alice in Wonderland was published - G...

The Tea Party Philosophy

I'm having trouble understanding the Tea Party philosophy. Let's think about this for a moment. Tea Party politicians, speakers, and leaders, as well as their voters, speak anti-government rhetoric like a preacher nicknamed motormouth speaks about Jesus. When it comes to taxes, I hear Tea Partiers regularly stay, "Stay out of my wallet!" When it comes to social issues, especially gay rights, I often times hear them say, "Stay out of people's bedrooms!" What do they think about global warming? "It's a plan by the government to take control of our lives and take away more of our rights!" Gun-control legislation? It's more of the same - "It's all part of a big government plan to strip us of our rights by taking away our guns!" In other words, the government to the Tea Party is much like a monster in the closet to a 5-year old, the devil to die-hard Christians, or Jesus to the NRA. Taking all of this into considerati...

I'm a "self-hating leftist," eh? Interesting...

So, I made a couple of sarcastic tweets at the expense of the Tea Party today. Not long afterward, I saw that I got added to a group called "Self-hating leftists." Last I checked, there are 632 members in this group, which is described as, "Brainwashed by public schooling and group think." Self-hatred is defined as: "An extreme dislike or hatred of oneself, or being angry at or even prejudiced against oneself." It's also said that this term is "used infrequently by psychologists and psychiatrists, who would usually describe people who hate themselves as 'persons with low self-esteem.'" I find the group description humorous, because it insinuates that being educated is a bad thing and referring to liberals as self-hating or self-loathing appears to be a prime example of groupthink. The GOP's "perfect" American

It seems that conservatives - especially those in the Tea Party  - love to brand Americans as "real" or not. I personally think it's silly to label anybody in such a manner. We're a diverse nation in terms of belief, ethnicity, and otherwise. I personally think that's something to be proud about. What humors me about this is when looking at the modern-day Republican Party's core belief system, here's how I envision their "perfect" American (beyond real and into the land of make-believe): A fetus named Exxon holding a Bushmaster AR-15 while praying to Jesus.

I'm still not 100% certain what I'm doing on there yet, but feel I'm gradually getting the hang of it and am up to 2,522 followers.

As I predicted 2.5 months ago, the Philadelphia Eagles name Michael Vick as their starting quarterback

As I called on June 6th, the Philadelphia Eagles just named Michael Vick as their starting quarterback heading into the 2013-2014 season. This is even less of a surprise for me given Vick's play in the pres-season. The veteran Pro Bowl quarterback has completed 13 of 15 pass attempts for 199 yards, and a touchdown (along with one end-of-the-half hail mary interception) in the Eagles' two pre-season games to this point. That's a completion percentage of 86.7% and his yards per pass attempt has been 13.3 - almost twice that of Nick Foles. Foles, to his credit, has been quite efficient in the pre-season. However, he lacks Vick's mobility and hasn't proven himself as an intermediate- to deep-route passer as Vick has. Foles, while efficient, has been been very much the dink and dunk passer and will need to improve on his intermediate and deep routes if he wants to be a full-time starter in this league. Third-stringer Matt Barkley has already shown a good deal of improv...

Maine Governor thinks President Obama hates white people

Witnesses at a meet-and-greet fundraiser in Maine last week just recently reported that Republican Governor Paul LePage said the following: "He (Obama) could have been the best president ever if he highlighted his biracial heritage, but the president hasn't done that because he hates white people." Yes, a president who was elected twice, hates 63% of the people in this country solely based on their skin color - some of whom voted for him to become their president. So, Mr. LePage, could you provide me with a few reasons why you feel that President Obama hates white people? ::waits:: I haven't got all day... ::waits some more:: Okay then, I'll just assume he was speaking out his arse. This claim reminds me of Mitt Romney's 47% speech, only worse. Romney insinuated that nearly half of the people in this country are nothing more than worthless, unemployed moochers, whom can't do anything for themselves. Just imagine if President Obama had been ...

A Facebook debate regarding the "nice guy"

So, I saw a Facebook post today which aired a video clip of a guy reading a poem he had written about always being cast as the "nice guy" or in the "friend-zone" among the women he had been interested in either romantically or sexually. The guy said that if a man (a "nice guy" apparently) purchased a woman a gift in hopes that she would sleep with him in return, she didn't owe him anything. While I agree a woman never owes a guy sex, this video sparked a more elaborate debate on the whole "nice guy" concept and who exactly would be at fault if such a guy gets taken advantage of in any way. Here's what I had to say on the matter: "The only thing women owe 'nice guys' is honesty. If he shows romantic interest in her or perhaps buys her something to indicate this, it's on her to be upfront with him and say, 'This was really sweet, but just so you know, I only see you as a friend.'  If she says this and he co...

Other politicians sexting like Weiner

Weinergate (Anthony) has been a great deal of fun for me and most everyone else it seems. However, for as much fun as it has been, I feel the need to spread the love around some. I will now list a number of other political figures and come up with sext messages I feel they may send at some point in their lives (if they haven't already): Michele Bachmann: "God sent me to do things to you! It'll be hotter than a Minnesota winter!" Sarah Palin: "I bet I can see your dingaling from Russia! You betcha!" Jimmy Carter: "Hello. You look nice. Want to go get a hot fudge sundae sometime? Dairy Queen is great around this time of year." Bill Clinton: "Oh yeah... ::bites lower lip::" Dick Cheney: "So I shot my friend in the face with one. How about you help me unload my other gun?" Mitt Romney: "There's 47% of you I don't like so much, but the rest I really like. How about you put that 53% in action at my...
