I've seen a movie trailer over the past couple days which has perplexed me and made me a little queasy. Surprisingly, it's a film about Apple CEO Steve Jobs, entitled jOBS. Why have I been so puzzled and nauseated when seeing the preview for this very film? The man playing the part of Steve Jobs is none other than Two and a Half Men's own Ashton Kutcher.
This is the 21st film Kutcher has been a part of, and based on the reviews thus far for his most recent picture, Kutcher's best showing among critics were the films No Strings Attached and Open Season (animated), which were approved by 48% of them. That's right - through 21 films (thus far, as not all of the reviews have come in for jOBS), an Ashton Kutcher movie has yet to finish at or above 50% approval from film critics. Over half his films (12 of 21) were approved by 25% or less of critics.
Why in the world was Ashton Kutcher selected for the role of Steve Jobs? It befuddles me beyond all belief. Sure, the two share a vague resemblance of one another, but that's not enough to warrant Kutcher the part. The man is 20 for 20 on rotten movie scores. That sounds like a sure-fire winner for the part to me! I smell 1 for 21 and an Oscar!
To this point, 3 out of 7 critics approve of Kutcher's latest film, with the Daily Telegraph's Sebastian Doggart saying this about jOBS - "The poverty of [Kutcher's] skills as a serious actor is on full display." Indeed. Nice pick...
