The Story of Curt Schilling: Great On the Field, Batsh*t Crazy Off It

While I'll always hold great respect and admiration for Curt Schilling as a pitcher, the more the man speaks, the less respect and admiration I hold for him as a person. His latest blog entry, "Why I will vote for Donald Trump," is just the most recent example of why this is. Let us now dissect this piece...

"Why I will vote for Donald Trump
MAY 13, 2016
by Curt Schilling
If your response is going to be anything related to ‘no one cares what you think’ stop reading now and go elsewhere. You’re coming here either interested in why, or to add to your list of reasons you don’t like me. I’m ok with both."

Fantastic! ...and I'll go with the latter...

"I’ve known Mr. Trump for a little over a decade. Our first encounter, and subsequent encounters, had to do with his request for me to appear on the apprentice.

We spoke at length every time we got together.

I realized very quickly this was a man decisive in action and confident in his ability.

I also realized that regardless of his net worth, he worked his ass off. He didn’t have time for 8 hours sleep each night, too much to be done."

Starting his "piece" with non-specifics, I see. It's like he's finding his innermost Trump. Please continue...

"So why will I vote for him? Here’s a few reasons why and none of them pertains to me just not wanting to vote for someone else.

I trust him. I don’t agree with him on many things, that’s cool. I also know that there is and never will be a candidate anywhere that I will agree with on everything. That candidate doesn’t exist. If you say it does I think that makes you a sheep, someone afraid to have or voice an original, albeit unpopular, opinion at times.

While I don’t agree with him there are two incredibly important things he possesses that neither candidate on the Soviet ticket do. He loves this country. You can laugh, you can mock, but you also are full of crap if the current administration has ever given you the confidence that they love this nation above all else. He will protect my family, and my loved ones. I say that because Mr Trump is where he is for one major reason. He’s been successful because he understands that surrounding yourself with smart people and listening to them, then parsing ideas and deciding, is how you win. Not all the time, but most of the time. When he says he will ‘make the military great’ he means 'I’m going to create a group of men and women I trust to rebuild the worlds greatest armed forces and then insure that you and your family are protected BEFORE looking out for the interests of others'.
I firmly believe that to know the real heart and soul of a man you look at his children. Who are they, what are they, and how do they act. I’ve never, even for a second, heard his children speak with anything but respect, courtesy, integrity and confidence. While you may think they are ‘spoon fed’ rich kids, experience tells me they have busted their asses to make their own way and be their own people."

More vagueness! It's like the man is Trump's speechwriter! Pushing that to the side for a moment, here is where Schilling goes from coming across as annoying to coming across as both annoying and batsh*t crazy. The Democratic Party is the "Soviet ticket," eh? Really? Still playing the communist card, even though communism and socialism are anything but identical, actual socialists have called President Obama the worst socialist president in history, and Bernie Sanders describes himself as a democratic socialist, which differs from both communism and socialism? Interesting... Also, Trump loves his country, but President Obama doesn't? Please provide me with some specific examples. Under President Obama: Millions of jobs have been created following the greatest recession since the Great Depression, millions more have acquired health insurance, unemployment has decreased quite substantially, Osama bin Laden was killed, no 9/11-type attacks have occurred on our soil, the stock markets have improved, the LGBT community has progressed in attaining equal marriage rights, etc. Meanwhile, Donald Trump wants to: Temporarily bar Muslims from entering this country, build a wall between here and Mexico, deport millions of (illegal) immigrants, punish women for having abortions, take away people's healthcare, spread lies told by white supremacists courtesy of his Twitter page, offend each and every demographic in this country, etc. So, in other words, according to Mr. Schilling, saying you want to make America great again while spreading hate and fear about several groups of people is to love America, and attempting to grant equal rights to everyone and spread acceptance of all people is to hate America. Fascinating... Lastly, I find it curious why Mr. Schilling feels much safer with Donald Trump as this country's leader than Barack Obama. It was under Republican President George W. Bush the 9/11 attacks occurred. No such attacks have occurred under Obama. Yet Schilling trusts Trump, a man who has trouble thinking before speaking, has incited violence at his own rallies, and has been continually criticized by military leaders for his ideas (or lack there of) regarding the military, over Obama, a man who has protected this country from any 9/11-type attacks for over 7 years. Like I said, the guy is now coming across as batsh*t crazy... Oh, and by the way, Trump's "success" started with a nice $1 million loan from his father. If only everyone could start out so "successfully..."

"Let me also comment on you frauds in the liberal media.

Mr Trump doesn’t want to ‘ban all muslims’ from entering the nation. Mr Trump doesn’t want to ban mexican immigrants from coming here.

No, Mr Trump wants to halt, dismantle and rebuild a horrifically corrupt, broken and useless immigration system. This current administration has made no bones about ‘disarming’ both our border patrol and our first responders in a rush to make sure everyone, even criminals, don’t have their rights infringed on.

But your liberal agenda has you lying your asses off to a group of people too lazy to do the work on their own, to listen and decide on their own.

But you knew that, just like you know Hillary Clinton is as guilty as the day is long, and as responsible for the deaths of 4 Americans, including an ambassador she was sworn to protect.

What terrifies you now? I think it’s the fact people have decided to stop making you their ‘go to’ for news. You cannot be trusted anymore, you have openly talked down to and mocked the ‘common’ citizen that they’re finally standing up and telling you to pound sand.

Those that still listen and believe you, and the massive amount of misinformation you publish are the lazy sheep and apathetic folks who will pull a lever for the felon or the socialist come next election."

Ooh, bashing the liberal media again. I'm sorry, Mr. Schilling, but Trump has said he wants to temporarily ban Muslims from entering this country. Well, that is, until a couple days ago when he backtracked and said it was "just a suggestion." That's not the only possible flip-flop he's undertaken in the past week. If I had to guess, I'd say approximately 80% of his "ideas" are either flip-flops or so vague not even he knows what in the hell he's talking about. He's also talked about building a "big, beautiful" wall between the United States and Mexico and having Mexico pay for it, which they've said time and again is not going to happen. The man's also said he'll deport each and every illegal immigrant from this country, which studies have shown would devastate the economy. Also, let's cut it out with blaming the Obama administration with the current state of immigration in this country. President Obama and Democrats in Congress have continually tried to pass immigration reform, yet there has been a consistent roadblock - the GOP. So, nice try... As far as information and misinformation goes, I find it utterly hilarious Schilling goes after the media while lauding Donald Trump. Look, I know fact-checkers are liberally-biased, because facts are liberally-biased, but according to Politifact, of the 141 Trump claims they've graded, just 12 have been scored as "True" or "Mostly True" (8%), while 108 have been scored as "Pants on Fire," "False," or "Mostly False" (76%). But yeah, keep on harping about the media being dishonest while you endorse Donald Trump...

"I do want Mr Trump to stop the name calling, I do want him to start being much more specific. But that’s just me and my opinion. I love that he gets it. What do I mean by that? I mean if you heard his initial tax proposal and recently heard his talk around changing that, you understand unlike the liar in chief, he gets that what’s going to happen is far too complicated to guarantee anything until you sit in the oval office. He won’t pander, and that alone sets him apart from 99% of the corrupt entrenched old white gov’t."

Okay, so that was unintentionally funny. Within a two sentence span, Schilling went from calling people "lazy sheep," "apathetic," "socialist," and "felons," to saying, "I do want Mr. Trump to stop the name calling." Not only that, but the Hall-of-Fame pitcher said, "I do want him (Trump) to start being much more specific," yet he follows that up with, "I love that he gets it." Yes, that statement may go down as an antonym of specific in the Thesaurus. I'm also hearing Bill Clinton's voice, as he asks, "But the real question is, what is 'it'?" Exactly...

"You’ve managed to elect people that want to shred the 2nd Amendment while being surrounded by an armed detail"

Yes, since the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence gave President Obama an "F" grade in his first term, not even the Sandy Hook school shooting could prompt Congress to pass gun-control legislation, and the Founding Fathers obviously pictured assault rifles in place of muskets 240 years into the future, yeah, American "Soviets" are obviously all about shredding the 2nd Amendment...

"You’ve managed to elect people who demanded a disaster of a health care system, while they themselves asked for, and received, exemptions from that very same broken down piece of junk."

Right, just tell the millions of newly insured people that, myself included, as without the ACA (Affordable Care Act), I probably wouldn't be breathing at this current juncture, let alone writing. Ahem. :: a*shole :: Ahem. Sorry, I had a sudden cough right there...

"You’ve managed to elect people who honest to God believe you can pass legislation that will make criminals NOT be criminals, and you BELIEVE that!"

What on earth are you talking about here? Marijuana, or what exactly? Once again, if you truly want to discuss this alleged issue, you're going to have to stop impersonating the man you're endorsing and start being more specific...

"Your media went on a campaign to destroy a woman that absolutely loves this nation in Gov Palin. You have made people believe she actually said 'I can see Russia from my house'.

'They’re our next-door neighbors. And you can actually see Russia, from land, here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska.'

That’s what she said you frauds. You rant and rave about ‘racists’ commentary around the First Lady and their daughters yet you laughed, mocked and trivialized when the public embarrassed and tried to humiliate Bristol Palin.

You would honest to God have the public believe that one of the most evil, despicable corrupt lying phonies ever to walk this earth, should be the democratic nominee for the highest position in this land.

The ONLY reason I wanted to see Mrs Fiorina, or Mrs Palin, or Condolezza Rice involved was to finally have this nation see what a true woman who can lead looks and sounds like on the same stage.

You’ve made folks believe a woman who helped destroy the lives of the women her husband assaulted and was accused of rape by, is actually a champion of womens rights.

I’m with ya on the Trump issue around his commentary about women. I think it’s uncomfortable for me so I would imagine it is for women, but again i tell you, look at his daughter and decide if he actually knows how to treat women. His wife? His former wife? Any of them come out and complain?"

Seriously? Schilling believes the media tried destroying Sarah Palin's political career by spreading Tina Fey's satirical Palin comment about seeing Russia from her house? Yes, while that line has been used in a number of jokes, that was anything but the reason for Sarah Palin's political downfall. Let's not forget her short-lived tenure as governor of Alaska. Wait, that was the media's fault, right? Or how about her facepalm-worthy responses in the Katie Couric interview? Oh, but those were gotcha questions, weren't they? That's right. Oh, how I was always stumped by the what-media-outlets-do-you-go-to-for-news question unless I was notified by it beforehand and studied the matter for at least two hours prior to the interview. ...and who tried to humiliate Bristol Palin? A spokesperson for abstinence-only education, who got pregnant twice, with two different guys? Do I see anything immoral with what Bristol Palin did and am I going to criticize her for it? No. However, is what occurred ironically humorous? Yes, and the only person who potentially humiliated the young Palin is herself (okay, and possibly her parents). Then the former pitcher-turned-loudmouthed-ignoramus bashes Hillary Clinton for her dishonesty while he praises Carly Fiorina, Sarah Palin, and Condoleeza Rice? Let's look at the first three listed politicians' Politifact files (Condoleeza Rice is currently without such a file):

Hillary Clinton
True/Mostly True: 97 of 195 (50%)
Pants on Fire/False/Mostly False: 56 of 195 (29%)
Net +/-: +21%

Sarah Palin
True/Mostly True: 20 of 62 (33%)
Pants on Fire/False/Mostly False: 34 of 62 (56%)
Net +/-: -23%

Carly Fiorina
True/Mostly True: 6 of 22 (28%)
Pants on Fire/False/Mostly False: 12 of 22 (55%)
Net +/-: -27%

What was that about trusting Ms. Palin and Ms. Fiorina, but not Ms. Clinton again? That's what I thought. Oh, and does he seriously want to look at Trump's marriages to prove he treats women with respect? The man's been married three times and has bragged about his extramarital affairs. But yeah, let's look toward The Donald's marriages to prove he's respectful to women...

"You college folks in love with Mr Sanders, a man I think is too far left for election in the Soviet Union I will say this.

Do your homework. His love of the 'Nordic Model' is understandable, who wouldn’t like free stuff.

Let me give you a hint about how that might work.

It CANNOT SCALE from a policy covering 6-10 million people to covering 300+ million people in a country with 19+ trillion in debt and the worlds largest defense budget.

It is mathematically IMPOSSIBLE.

I know it sounds great, hell free stuff always does but you seem to have forgotten one of life’s most endearing and true cliches.

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is"

Once again, Curt Schilling shows he knows less about democratic socialism than my 2-year-old niece knows about calculus, but moving on...

"So rant and moan and whatever all you want, but the reasons I am voting for Mr Trump is easy.

I trust him when he says he will put this country above everything else as a priority in decision making

I trust him to create a team of military minds that will keep me safe

I trust him to destroy a corrupt and broken immigration system and remake it with one that works.

I trust that at every crucial point, when a decision has to be made, he will make the decision that’s best for our nation, and not the best for votes.

I trust him over a women who lied her ass off about ‘landing under fire’ only to have video footage of her lazily walking off of Marine One.

Stolen valor much?

I trust him to undo the massive damage created by the most divisive group of people in my lifetime, who have managed in 7+ short years to undo hundreds of years and thousands of lives worth of work.

So Mr Trump, all I ask is that you keep your promise to me, and to Americans, and put us above all else when you become the 45th President of the United States of American.

I’m proud my family served in so many ways  and so many wars that we can still have a process to elect a person to lead us.

God Bless you and God Bless the United States

Curt"

Okay, so let me get this straight... Curt Schilling trusts a man with no experience protecting a country from terrorism over a president who has prevented any 9/11-type attacks from occurring on our soil for 7+ years. He believes Sarah Palin and Carly Fiorina are more honest and trustworthy than Hillary Clinton, even though the numbers show that to be anything but the case. He thinks the former Alaska governor's political downfall was when the "liberal media" misquoted her as saying, "I can see Russia from my house." Schilling also blames the media for humiliating Bristol Palin, after the abstinence-only education spokesperson got impregnated twice by two different guys. The former pitcher wants Donald Trump to be more specific, even though he provides no specifics in his endorsement of the businessman. He wants Trump to cut it out with the name-calling, while he throws insults like he were on the mound again. Lastly, even though President Obama has helped the country rebound from the worst recession since the Great Depression, Curt Schilling believes the past 7+ years have been detrimental to this country's morale, and that the only way to "make America great again" is by going back to the policies which prompted the Great Recession in the first place. Yeah, the man may have been great on the field, but he's batsh*t crazy off it.

Boycotting jukeboxes because of TouchTunes

I love music and enjoy hitting the bar(s) over the weekend, so naturally, when the mood strikes me, I've never been coy about playing some songs on the jukebox. This past Thursday, a friend of mine turned 50, so several friends of her's, including myself, all met up to celebrate the occasion. At around 9:30, a friend of mine and I both chipped in $5 to play some songs on the jukebox. Four hours and 231 skips later, we gave up on hearing the songs we had selected, and went home knowing we had just wasted $5. This wasn't the first time such a thing had happened to me (and many others), and due to that, I'll be boycotting jukeboxes. Why? The scam known as TouchTunes. You see, here's how the plot typically breaks down. A person (or group of people) downloads the TouchTunes app on his/her phone, consumes one too many adult beverages, and due to this, has less care for spending extra money to hear the songs of their choosing right NOW. That's the thing with TouchTun

The difference between "looking" and "checking out"

I may be way off with these numbers, but it's my approximation that at least 75% of individuals whom are involved in a serious relationship feel it's perfectly acceptable to "check out" members of the opposite sex they're not involved with. Meanwhile, approximately 25% either don't feel this is acceptable or aren't sure about the matter. I hadn't thought about this matter for a while, but since I've been dating a woman for about 8 months, the topic has been pondered about some. When reading or hearing others discuss this very issue, I often times hear comments similar to the following: "It's human nature to look." "There's nothing wrong with checking others out. I'm sure he/she does it too!" "It's fine to do it. Just don't tell your boyfriend/girlfriend about it or do it in front of them!" "It's natural to find people attractive." When observing the array of comments, I i

The verdict is in. To no one's surprise, Jonathan Hoenig has been found guilty of being an idiot.

Just recently, when discussing the Michael Brown shooting and whether or not race had anything to do with it, Fox News contributor Jonathan Hoenig said, "You know who talks about race? Racists." One moment while I provide Mr. Hoenig with the well deserved slow-clap. :: slow-claps for two seconds :: So, that was quite the line by Mr. Hoenig, wasn't it? "You know who talks about race? Racists." Well, wasn't he just talking about race? So, by his own words, I guess that makes him a racist. Also, if he wants to be consistent, does this mean that people whom talk about gender are sexists and people whom talk about sexual orientation are homophobes? With that line of thinking, Hoenig would engage in the following back-and-forths: Hoenig: "So, who are you voting for?" A woman: "The Democratic candidate, because he's been adamant about his support for equal rights for women." Hoenig: "You sexist feminist nazi!"
