Former New York City Mayor and current former lawyer posing as a stand-up comedian - Rudy Giuliani - has recently come under scrutiny for making the following comments during a speech in Tel Aviv:
"Stormy Daniels? Pfft. Look at her. You have to respect on this stage every woman. Yes, I respect porn stars. Don't you respect porn stars? Or do you think porn stars desecrate women, do you think porn stars don't respect women, and therefore sell their bodies? I respect all human beings. I even have to respect criminals, but I'm sorry I don't respect a porn star the way I respect a career woman or a woman of substance or a woman who has great respect for herself as a person and isn't going to sell her body for sexual exploitation. So Stormy, you want to bring a case, let me cross-examine you. Because the business you're in entitles you to no degree of giving your credibility any weight. And secondly, explain to me how she could be damaged. I mean, she has no reputation. If you're going to sell your body for money, you just don't have a reputation. Maybe I'm old-fashioned, I don't know."
I honestly can't stand pornography. I don't watch it and have even reached the point where, due to how ridiculous I find it, have started a satire poking fun at the genre. Having said that, though, it's my choice and opinion. I know for a fact many others consume pornography in one manner or another, love it, and that's their choice and opinion. What it comes down to is consistency. Why should women like Stormy Daniels be seen as uncredible due to their careers in pornography and men like Donald Trump be seen as credible, despite him appearing in three softcore porn films and fornicating with porn stars like Stormy Daniels (while married to another woman, mind you)? Why should participants in pornography be viewed in one light and consumers of pornography be viewed in a completely different one?
I can't stand pornography. I think it's degrading to the concept of love, to both sexes (women in particular), sets unrealistic expectations for sex, and even comical at times, due to its extreme level of ridiculousness. However, while I may not care for the genre and do see potential repercussions in viewing it regularly, I also think it's unfair to deem its participants and/or consumers as uncredible due to their partaking in the industry, or to see them as almost inhuman due to said consumption. It's all about consistency, and while I find pornography to often times be comical, Rudy Giuliani's defense of Donald Trump in this situation is even more hysterical. Giuliani has been married three times, including to a second-cousin. Donald Trump has been caught cheating on all three of his wives. According to Pulitzer Prize-winning fact-check site, Politifact.com, Donald Trump lies 69% of the time and only tells the truth 16% of the time (the other 15% are half lies/half truths). So it's pretty ironic that Giuliani is defending Trump on terms of credibility, for if there's anyone in this predicament whom isn't credible, it's Donald Trump.
