While our freedoms and the protection of them may be no laughing matter, Donald Trump's seeming obsession with that which symbolizes them cracks me up.
Let's stand back and look at this entire situation. Donald Trump has consistently gone after NFL players for kneeling during the National Anthem. He's referred to them as unpatriotic (among other things) and suggested they should be fined, suspended, kicked out of the league, or even deported. He's claimed to have felt so strongly about this due to our brave men and women whom have fought and died to establish and maintain our freedoms, and the flag being a symbol of them. Trump has also referred to this country as the greatest and freest in the world. So, according to him, he's Mr. Patriotic. If the man is consistent with anything, though, it's his inconsistency. He campaigned on the slogan of "Make America Great Again," meaning he didn't think it was all too special prior to him stepping into office. Not only that, he's showcased that, while athletes are kneeling during the anthem in protest of police brutality and oppression against minority groups, he doesn't seem to know the words to either The Star-Spangled Banner or God Bless America. Also, segueing from that, he seems to have forgotten that, while we have the right to agree or disagree with their antics, soldiers fought for the right of these NFL players to peacefully protest. Lastly (that I can think of at the moment anyway), Mr. Trump has referred to the press as "the enemy of the people."
So let's get this straight... Donald Trump thinks journalists are enemies. He doesn't know the words to this country's anthems. The man doesn't seem to understand the Constitution or what our soldiers fought and died for. His words today are in direct conflict with his words during the campaign trail. As is the case with most everything, when it comes to patriotism, the main is a walking, talking contradiction, as his words suggest one thing, but his actions suggest the polar opposite. Donald Trump may claim to always be bleeding red, white, and blue, but the fact of the matter is, he's simply white, bleeding red, and full of crap.
