In yet another sad and ironic story showcasing the need for stricter gun laws in this country, a 42-year old man by the name of Ken Franklin shot and killed himself late Saturday in the infield of an NRA-sponsored NASCAR race at the Texas Motor Speedway in Forth Worth, Texas.
This reminds me of the shootings which occurred at multiple gun rallies on Gun Appreciation Day. Unfortunately, unlike those shootings, which only resulted in injuries, this incident resulted in a man's death.
While I've seen some jokingly state that the NRA set up this suicide as a form of entertainment for the crowd on hand, a tragic event like this isn't one to joke about. A man, who obviously didn't seem to be mentally stable, took his life and at a public event no less. This tragedy shouldn't incite jokes and laughter. It should incite people to get more involved by contacting their Congressmen and women, in an attempt to pass more stringent laws in hope we can limit these tragedies in the future.
