A Republican New Hampshire lawmaker refers to women as vaginas in an e-mail

The Republican Party has had a tough mountain to climb as far as winning over women voters. Most of the party has held steadfast on three issues very important to the fairer sex. They've: 1) ...tried to make abortion illegal in any and all cases, 2) ...tried to make it more difficult for women to get their birth control covered through employer-based insurance, and 3) ...fought against women receiving equal pay as men for performing the same jobs.

In addition to all this, the party has been notorious for treating the act of rape as not that big of a deal.

Then Missouri senatorial candidate Todd Akin said the following in the run-up to last year's election:

"If it's a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down."

Then Indiana senatorial candidate Richard Mourdock said the following during a debate in the run-up to last year's election:

"I struggled with it myself for a long time, but I came to realize life is that gift from God. And I think even when life begins in that horrible situation of rape, that it is something that God intended to happen."

Things just keep getting better and better, don't they? Well, thanks to Republican New Hampshire lawmaker Peter Hansen, the Republican Party appears to be rolling merrily along toward earning even less of the woman vote.

In a response to colleague Steve Vaillancourt's floor speech regarding a "stand your ground" gun bill and how it would benefit people to retreat in such a situation as opposed to killing, Hansen wrote the following in an e-mail directed toward Vaillancourt:

"What could possibly be missing from those factual tales of successful retreat in VT, Germany, and the bowels of Amsterdam? Why children and vagina's of course. While the tales relate the actions of a solitary male the outcome cannot relate to similar situations where children and women and mothers are the potential victims."

Due to this quote, I think the following bits of information are likely all at least partially accurate in the mind and world of one Peter Hansen:

- One of his favorite films stars Katharine Hepburn in Vagina of the Year.

- He said "I do" when asked the following question by the pastor at his wedding, "Do you, Peter Hansen, take this vagina to be your lawfully wedded wife, to love and to cherish, to have and to hold; and do you promise, forsaking all others, to cleave to her and her alone, for as long as you both shall live?"

- His career as a lawyer was cut short when he started his first opening statement with, "Vaginas and gentlemen of the jury..."

- His favorite musician is Michael Bolton. His favorite song is "When a Man Loves a Vagina."

- He still believes that vaginas belong in the kitchen.

Boycotting jukeboxes because of TouchTunes

I love music and enjoy hitting the bar(s) over the weekend, so naturally, when the mood strikes me, I've never been coy about playing some songs on the jukebox. This past Thursday, a friend of mine turned 50, so several friends of her's, including myself, all met up to celebrate the occasion. At around 9:30, a friend of mine and I both chipped in $5 to play some songs on the jukebox. Four hours and 231 skips later, we gave up on hearing the songs we had selected, and went home knowing we had just wasted $5. This wasn't the first time such a thing had happened to me (and many others), and due to that, I'll be boycotting jukeboxes. Why? The scam known as TouchTunes. You see, here's how the plot typically breaks down. A person (or group of people) downloads the TouchTunes app on his/her phone, consumes one too many adult beverages, and due to this, has less care for spending extra money to hear the songs of their choosing right NOW. That's the thing with TouchTun...

The difference between "looking" and "checking out"

I may be way off with these numbers, but it's my approximation that at least 75% of individuals whom are involved in a serious relationship feel it's perfectly acceptable to "check out" members of the opposite sex they're not involved with. Meanwhile, approximately 25% either don't feel this is acceptable or aren't sure about the matter. I hadn't thought about this matter for a while, but since I've been dating a woman for about 8 months, the topic has been pondered about some. When reading or hearing others discuss this very issue, I often times hear comments similar to the following: "It's human nature to look." "There's nothing wrong with checking others out. I'm sure he/she does it too!" "It's fine to do it. Just don't tell your boyfriend/girlfriend about it or do it in front of them!" "It's natural to find people attractive." When observing the array of comments, I i...
