Poll shows Middle East comments backfire on Romney

As I predicted in wake of hearing Mitt Romney's premature, ridiculous and false comments regarding President Obama sympathizing with the attackers in Egypt and Libya based on a statement made by the U.S. Embassy in Cairo, of which the president had no part, hours prior to the attacks.

In a Pew Research Center Poll, which was just released, it showed that 45% of the American public approve of how President Obama is handling the situation in the Middle East, while 36% disapprove - a net of +9. Mitt Romney, meanwhile, did not see such positive numbers regarding his reaction to the attacks. With regard to the comments he made, 26% approve and 48% disapprove - a net of -22. At this point in time, President Obama has a net +31 with regard to his Middle East reaction compared to Sir Romney's.

Sadly for Mittens, the only group with which he scored better than the president were Republicans, who gave him a 58-11% edge. That was the only such group, however. Men and women approved more strongly of President Obama's reaction than Romney's. Every age group felt similarly. Everyone from high school drop-outs to college graduates felt the same way. The president was in the plus regardless of how closely a person followed the news. Democrats, of course, overwhelmingly supported Obama's handling of the situation far more than Romney's. The most striking number of all has to be with regard to independents. While 44% of such voters approved of Obama's handling of the Middle East crisis, only 23% approved of Romney's comments - a net +21 for the president.

The Romney team has been in desperation mode ever since they saw an Obama bounce in the polls following the Democratic National Convention. This move by Romney further illustrated that and unlike he and his campaign team were hoping and just as I predicted, it's backfired and has only set them back even further. In light of Romney's before-mentioned remarks, I said that he'd officially lost the election. I still stand by the claim that he will lose the election, but based on the Republican candidate's most recent slip up with regard to 47% of the population being fully dependent on the government and in looking back at all his slip ups throughout the campaign, I now have to wonder if Romney lost the election when he first uttered the words, "I will be running for President of the United States...again..."

Boycotting jukeboxes because of TouchTunes

I love music and enjoy hitting the bar(s) over the weekend, so naturally, when the mood strikes me, I've never been coy about playing some songs on the jukebox. This past Thursday, a friend of mine turned 50, so several friends of her's, including myself, all met up to celebrate the occasion. At around 9:30, a friend of mine and I both chipped in $5 to play some songs on the jukebox. Four hours and 231 skips later, we gave up on hearing the songs we had selected, and went home knowing we had just wasted $5. This wasn't the first time such a thing had happened to me (and many others), and due to that, I'll be boycotting jukeboxes. Why? The scam known as TouchTunes. You see, here's how the plot typically breaks down. A person (or group of people) downloads the TouchTunes app on his/her phone, consumes one too many adult beverages, and due to this, has less care for spending extra money to hear the songs of their choosing right NOW. That's the thing with TouchTun...

Face guarding is legal in college football and the NFL

I just wanted to remind fans and announcers especially, that face guarding is legal in both college football and the NFL. It all comes down to contact. So long as a defender doesn't make contact with an intended receiver, he doesn't have to turn around to play the ball. I can't tell you how many times every week I hear announcers talk about face guarding being a penalty. It's not. I even heard one announcer yesterday state, "If the defender doesn't turn around and play the ball, the ref will call pass interference every time." That's simply not true. Courtesy of referee Bill LeMonnier, he says this with regard to the rule at the college level (answered on 8/12/13): "NCAA rules on pass interference require the face guarding to have contact to be a foul. No contact, no foul by NCAA rules." In the NFL rule book, this is written:  "Actions that constitute defensive pass interference include but are not limited to: (a) Contact by a ...
