Why Romney's tax returns are important to many voters...

While due to the two conventions and the ensuing bounce for President Barack Obama we haven't heard a great deal about Mitt Romney's tax returns, I still hear from many conservatives the words, "Why do you care about them?" I've also heard, "Obama just wants to punish success" or "Obama's a socialist". I've even heard Romney's tax returns being compared to Obama's birth certificate.

All I'll say about those claims is Obama has shown his birth certificate (multiple times), members of the socialist party have laughed at the notion that the president is at all like them and it'd make absolutely no sense for a presidential nominee in a capitalist society want to "punish" success.

With that out of the way, I don't understand what the big deal is for Romney to release such information and for some conservatives to understand why many liberals and moderates want to see his returns. His father voluntarily released several years of tax returns. The longer this drags on, with Romney releasing a maximum of two years, the more people are going to wonder what it is he's hiding. Most liberals don't want to "punish" success; we simply want fairness. We want equality. We want for people to start at the same place, as opposed to one person receiving all the advantages and another having to play catch up from the beginning. We don't want to punish men's success. We also don't want for women to receive only $0.77 to the $1.00 that men make for performing the same job at the same productivity level. Mitt Romney is running for the highest offer in the land. Why is it wrong for us to want to know if he's been cheating the tax system for many years? To want to know how unfair the system has been to us when compared to him? The guy isn't running to be a garbageperson; he's running to become the President of the United States. I find it utterly ridiculous for the anti-government party to criticize the pro-government party for questioning the man running for the highest office in government and demanding he release some information about himself. Why should we take Romney at his word about his tax returns? The guy can rarely take himself at his own word.

Boycotting jukeboxes because of TouchTunes

I love music and enjoy hitting the bar(s) over the weekend, so naturally, when the mood strikes me, I've never been coy about playing some songs on the jukebox. This past Thursday, a friend of mine turned 50, so several friends of her's, including myself, all met up to celebrate the occasion. At around 9:30, a friend of mine and I both chipped in $5 to play some songs on the jukebox. Four hours and 231 skips later, we gave up on hearing the songs we had selected, and went home knowing we had just wasted $5. This wasn't the first time such a thing had happened to me (and many others), and due to that, I'll be boycotting jukeboxes. Why? The scam known as TouchTunes. You see, here's how the plot typically breaks down. A person (or group of people) downloads the TouchTunes app on his/her phone, consumes one too many adult beverages, and due to this, has less care for spending extra money to hear the songs of their choosing right NOW. That's the thing with TouchTun...

Face guarding is legal in college football and the NFL

I just wanted to remind fans and announcers especially, that face guarding is legal in both college football and the NFL. It all comes down to contact. So long as a defender doesn't make contact with an intended receiver, he doesn't have to turn around to play the ball. I can't tell you how many times every week I hear announcers talk about face guarding being a penalty. It's not. I even heard one announcer yesterday state, "If the defender doesn't turn around and play the ball, the ref will call pass interference every time." That's simply not true. Courtesy of referee Bill LeMonnier, he says this with regard to the rule at the college level (answered on 8/12/13): "NCAA rules on pass interference require the face guarding to have contact to be a foul. No contact, no foul by NCAA rules." In the NFL rule book, this is written:  "Actions that constitute defensive pass interference include but are not limited to: (a) Contact by a ...
