With President Obama receiving a rather large post-convention bounce at the polls and the Romney/Ryan team talking themselves in so many circles that it's been reported that the two sober men failed a sobriety test, the November election is looking more and more like an uphill fight for the Republican ticket.
In recent days, it's been reported that the Romney team has pulled its ads from the states of Pennsylvania, Michigan and Paul Ryan's home state of Wisconsin. They'll instead focus their attention on the following states: Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina and Virginia. There are mixed reports on what the team plans on doing about Ohio. It appears as if, while they're still running ads in the Buckeye state, they've pulled them from a very large portion of the state. In other words, it appears as if the Romney team is conceding Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and may not be far removed from conceding Ohio as well. This spells big trouble for them.
At this point in time, there are 17 states (including D.C.) which are seen as certain Obama victories. These include: Washington, Oregon, California, Hawaii, Illinois, Minnesota, Maine, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Washington D.C. and New Mexico. These 17 "states" total 201 electoral votes for the president. If Romney concedes Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin, that total would be raised to 247 electoral votes, keeping in mind it takes 270 to win. If Team Romney winds up conceding Ohio, that total would run up to 265. This means that they would have to win: Iowa, Colorado, Nevada, Virginia, Florida and North Carolina to at least tie the president (if he wins New Hampshire) and those along with New Hampshire to beat him outright. While Virginia and Florida appear to be true toss-ups and the Tar Heel state may slightly favor Romney, New Hampshire, Iowa, Colorado and Nevada all lean Obama's way. The further we move along, the seemingly fewer avenues for a Romney victory become.
