"Memory Lane" (poem of mine)

This poem can be found on pages 66-67 of "Seasons Come, People Grow: A Poetic Journey".

A midnight ride,
Into the darkness I go,
Life passing before my eyes,
No matter how fast or slow,

Each entity I envision,
Brings about numerous memories,
Regardless of how strong the correlation,
I feel something burn inside of me,

I drive slowly,
To take them all in,
Bu, pain overtakes me,
My foot pounces on the gas,

A knot builds in my stomach,
My pulse begins to race,
My mind momentarily stops functioning,
As I feel the aches and pains,

Please take them away,
Let them all go,
Erase them from my mind and conscience,
Toss them out the window,

Driving down memory lane,
Wanting it all to be a thing of the past,
The road never-ending,
Those attempting to escape will forever be lost.
