Want a free pizza, ladies? Then show your breasts! ...at the Illinois pizza joint Drew's Pizza... (yes, unfortunately, this is true...)

I'm not sure which I find more troubling - an article I read which told the story about a pizza shop in Champaign, Illinois that advertised giving away free pizza in exchange for women to show employees their breasts or the ensuing comments from members of HuffingtonPost.com.

That's right, ladies! If you're out bar-hopping in the college town of Champaign, Illinois, get the late-night munchies, and want a free pizza, all you have to do is go to Drew's Pizza and lift your shirt for all to see. It's as simple as that!

As Drew's Pizza employee Brice Hartman explained to a local ABC affiliate, "Somebody comes in says, 'Hey I'm drunk, if I flash you, can I get a free pizza?' Yeah sure, why not? It makes everybody here happy. It makes the crowd happy."

Drew's Pizza even posted the following tweets on their Twitter page before recently closing their account in light of this story:

"LAST CALL TITS FOR PIZZA #uiuc ladies only"

"WE WANT MORE TITS!!! #showusyourtits #uiuc FREE PIZZA"

"We've seen some great pairs tonight lets see some more! #uiuc #LATENIGHT FReepizzafortits"

Commenter on a local news and culture blog by the name of Smile Politely - Peggyfioretti - had this to say about the ordeal:

"I don't know if you have ever been on Green St. at 2 in the morning, but there are people that cannot stand up straight, much less make the sound decision to lift up their shirt or not for free pizza."

Most of the Huffington Post comments I read went something like this: "Who cares?" or "Whatever." or "What's the big deal?" Yes, all of these commentators were male.

The big deal is two things - one of which the Smile Politely commenter already mentioned. Most of these women are intoxicated upon stumbling across this pizza joint (from the sounds of it, that is meant both figuratively and literally), so these male employees are taking advantage of drunk women's lack of sound decision-making. I'm sorry, but taking advantage of anyone whom is drunk is morally reprehensible.

Secondly, this showcases women being seen less as human beings and more as sex objects. This promotion was immature, perverted, sexist, and vile.

For the male commentators on HuffingtonPost.com, all I have to say is if your girlfriend, wife, or daughter got drunk one night and was taken advantage of by some male employees of a pizza joint to show her chest for free food, I have to imagine you'd feel differently about the matter.

When I read stories like this, it shames me to admit I'm of the same gender as these imbeciles. Like it or not fellas, but women are more educated than us, more attractive than us, and somewhere down the line, may be earning more money than us. If it weren't for them, there would be no us. The least we can do is treat them with the proper amount of respect.

  1. Wow. I'd hate to be a female employee there. That would make for an awkward working environment. I can only imagine all the commentary going on after these women leave with their free pizzas.

  2. Yeah, no kidding. I'm sure the majority of male employees there were very mature about the matter with such commentary... ::sighs::

Boycotting jukeboxes because of TouchTunes

I love music and enjoy hitting the bar(s) over the weekend, so naturally, when the mood strikes me, I've never been coy about playing some songs on the jukebox. This past Thursday, a friend of mine turned 50, so several friends of her's, including myself, all met up to celebrate the occasion. At around 9:30, a friend of mine and I both chipped in $5 to play some songs on the jukebox. Four hours and 231 skips later, we gave up on hearing the songs we had selected, and went home knowing we had just wasted $5. This wasn't the first time such a thing had happened to me (and many others), and due to that, I'll be boycotting jukeboxes. Why? The scam known as TouchTunes. You see, here's how the plot typically breaks down. A person (or group of people) downloads the TouchTunes app on his/her phone, consumes one too many adult beverages, and due to this, has less care for spending extra money to hear the songs of their choosing right NOW. That's the thing with TouchTun...

Face guarding is legal in college football and the NFL

I just wanted to remind fans and announcers especially, that face guarding is legal in both college football and the NFL. It all comes down to contact. So long as a defender doesn't make contact with an intended receiver, he doesn't have to turn around to play the ball. I can't tell you how many times every week I hear announcers talk about face guarding being a penalty. It's not. I even heard one announcer yesterday state, "If the defender doesn't turn around and play the ball, the ref will call pass interference every time." That's simply not true. Courtesy of referee Bill LeMonnier, he says this with regard to the rule at the college level (answered on 8/12/13): "NCAA rules on pass interference require the face guarding to have contact to be a foul. No contact, no foul by NCAA rules." In the NFL rule book, this is written:  "Actions that constitute defensive pass interference include but are not limited to: (a) Contact by a ...
