Abortion leads to global warming! ...so says a Texas Republican...

Even though approximately 97% of scientists believe humans are at the forefront of causing global warming, many on the far-right end of the political spectrum seem to disagree. Yes, like they stand with the top 1% of earners, they stand with the 3% of global warming skeptics. Perhaps this is why when 10% of the population agrees with their position on not passing a gun-control bill which would expand background checks, they feel they're with the majority.

That brings me to one such global-warming denier in Texas Republican and evangelical leader David Barton, who had this to say about the matter to televangelist Kenneth Copeland:

"When you open the door to killing (abortion), it's got a lot of different manifestations. When a nation does something bad, it gets a judgment or it gets a blessing. ... Which is why policies matter. Because if you take a bad policy you get judged for it on the spot, if you take a good policy you get blessed for it on the spot. ... A door has been opened and we have said, you know, we embrace a wicked policy. Okay, then I'll take my hand of protection off your nation, and whap! Here comes storms like we've never seen before, and here comes floods, and here comes climate stuff that we can't explain all the hot times and all the cold times and too much rain and not enough rain and we're flooding over here and we've got droughts over there."

That's right, ladies and gentlemen - David Barton believes in an abortion-global warming link. If he were to run for Congress, I can just see him trying to clarify his statement in a debate by saying something like this:

"You see, if a woman has an abortion in the summer, you'll see temperatures get really hot. If she has an abortion in the winter, temperatures will get very cold and there will be some significant snow accumulation. If she kills a baby in the spring, tornadoes will occur. Then in the fall, if she murders a baby, you'll surely see hurricanes. Meteorologists not only tell us the weather, they tell us about abortion. If you hear your weatherman talk about some crazy weather, then you'll know mothers are killing their babies! When you kill a baby, God gets angry and makes us pay with nasty weather! He doesn't do this if we accidentally kill babies overseas with bombs in a war or anything, well, because they're not Americans, and God is on our side. It says that in the book of U.S.A.thian or something like that. Anyway, if we stop abortion, we will stop this crazy climate stuff! I don't care what science says; it's what God says, according to me. Thank you."

Based on Mr. Barton's logic (or lack there of), he probably believes in the following ridiculous links as well:

- "Allowing more gays to get married is resulting in more abortions!"

- "It's because of all those anti-God atheists that those wars are happening, like the one between the Jews and the Muslims!"

- "Every time a politician raises taxes on the rich, someone dies of AIDS!"

Boycotting jukeboxes because of TouchTunes

I love music and enjoy hitting the bar(s) over the weekend, so naturally, when the mood strikes me, I've never been coy about playing some songs on the jukebox. This past Thursday, a friend of mine turned 50, so several friends of her's, including myself, all met up to celebrate the occasion. At around 9:30, a friend of mine and I both chipped in $5 to play some songs on the jukebox. Four hours and 231 skips later, we gave up on hearing the songs we had selected, and went home knowing we had just wasted $5. This wasn't the first time such a thing had happened to me (and many others), and due to that, I'll be boycotting jukeboxes. Why? The scam known as TouchTunes. You see, here's how the plot typically breaks down. A person (or group of people) downloads the TouchTunes app on his/her phone, consumes one too many adult beverages, and due to this, has less care for spending extra money to hear the songs of their choosing right NOW. That's the thing with TouchTun...

The difference between "looking" and "checking out"

I may be way off with these numbers, but it's my approximation that at least 75% of individuals whom are involved in a serious relationship feel it's perfectly acceptable to "check out" members of the opposite sex they're not involved with. Meanwhile, approximately 25% either don't feel this is acceptable or aren't sure about the matter. I hadn't thought about this matter for a while, but since I've been dating a woman for about 8 months, the topic has been pondered about some. When reading or hearing others discuss this very issue, I often times hear comments similar to the following: "It's human nature to look." "There's nothing wrong with checking others out. I'm sure he/she does it too!" "It's fine to do it. Just don't tell your boyfriend/girlfriend about it or do it in front of them!" "It's natural to find people attractive." When observing the array of comments, I i...
