Rush Limbaugh compares filibuster reform to rape

After President Obama expressed his support for filibuster reform, where a simple majority of Senators (51) would be required to approve judicial and executive nominees as opposed to the 60 required due to the filibuster, radio talk show host and celebrity voted most likely to wind up on display at a zoo at some point in his life - Rush Limbaugh - had this to say about the matter:

"Every now and then, some lunatic in the group proposes to change the rule to allow women to be raped. But they never were able to get six votes for it. There were always the four women voting against it and they always found two guys. Well, the guy that kept proposing that women be raped finally got tired of it, and he was in the majority and he was one that [said], 'You know what? We're going to change the rule. Now all we need is five.' And well, 'you can't do that.' 'Yes we are. We're the majority. We're changing the rule.' And then they vote. Can the women be raped? Well, all it would take then is half of the room. You can change the rule to say three. You can change the rule to say three people want it, it's going to happen."

This may be one of the dumbest, if not the dumbest comparison I've ever heard. It's ridiculous on multiple levels.

First off, it appears as if Rush didn't pass his 3rd grade math class. It's called a majority, Rush. A majority means more than half, not half. If an election ended in a tie, we'd have to resort to a recount or another vote in order to establish a winner. There are 100 Senators in the U.S. Senate. Filibuster reform would require that 51 of them approved of a judicial or executive nominee. What's 100 - 51? That would be 49. Is 51 >, <, or = 49? Rush? Come on, now... You can do it! Okay, maybe not. We'll get back to that.

Worse yet, just the comparison itself is ridiculous to the point of being both offensive and stupid. Limbaugh is comparing a group of people voting to approve of judicial and executive nominees to a group of people voting to allow women to get raped. Rape is a crime - a person forcibly engaging themselves in sex with another. Last I heard, it was not a crime to get approved by the U.S. Senate as a judicial or executive nominee.

Apparently Rush Limbaugh didn't get the let's-not-talk-about-rape-anymore memo which was likely handed out to most Republican politicians and media figures in the country after last year's elections. From Todd Akin laying claim that women's special lady parts had a way of "shutting that whole thing down" and preventing pregnancy when they were raped to Richard Mourdock saying rape was something "God intended" to Rush Limbaugh comparing a vote to allow filibuster reform to a vote to allow women to get raped, I think it'd be quite the brilliant idea for these Republicans in the spotlight to keep their mouths shut when it comes to the horrendous, violent, and disgusting act of rape. This is especially true since their approval rating is lower than skunk spray, dog feces, and the New York Yankees. Comparing filibuster reform to rape is so ridiculous, it's like comparing Rush Limbaugh to a decent human being.

Boycotting jukeboxes because of TouchTunes

I love music and enjoy hitting the bar(s) over the weekend, so naturally, when the mood strikes me, I've never been coy about playing some songs on the jukebox. This past Thursday, a friend of mine turned 50, so several friends of her's, including myself, all met up to celebrate the occasion. At around 9:30, a friend of mine and I both chipped in $5 to play some songs on the jukebox. Four hours and 231 skips later, we gave up on hearing the songs we had selected, and went home knowing we had just wasted $5. This wasn't the first time such a thing had happened to me (and many others), and due to that, I'll be boycotting jukeboxes. Why? The scam known as TouchTunes. You see, here's how the plot typically breaks down. A person (or group of people) downloads the TouchTunes app on his/her phone, consumes one too many adult beverages, and due to this, has less care for spending extra money to hear the songs of their choosing right NOW. That's the thing with TouchTun...

The difference between "looking" and "checking out"

I may be way off with these numbers, but it's my approximation that at least 75% of individuals whom are involved in a serious relationship feel it's perfectly acceptable to "check out" members of the opposite sex they're not involved with. Meanwhile, approximately 25% either don't feel this is acceptable or aren't sure about the matter. I hadn't thought about this matter for a while, but since I've been dating a woman for about 8 months, the topic has been pondered about some. When reading or hearing others discuss this very issue, I often times hear comments similar to the following: "It's human nature to look." "There's nothing wrong with checking others out. I'm sure he/she does it too!" "It's fine to do it. Just don't tell your boyfriend/girlfriend about it or do it in front of them!" "It's natural to find people attractive." When observing the array of comments, I i...
