Week 10 NFL Predictions

Thursday
Game: Washington at Minnesota

Pick: Washington - As RGIII's health has slowly improved, so have the Washington Redskins. I look for that to continue in this game against a team (the Vikings) who just seem to find ways to lose at the end of games. I like Washington to improve to 4-5 with a close win on the road.

Result: Minnesota 34 Washington 27

Record: 0-1

Sunday
Game: Seattle at Atlanta

Pick: Seattle - While Seattle hasn't been playing great football in recent weeks, they've still been finding ways to win. Atlanta, meanwhile, is looking like anything but the team they were supposed to be and while I think they should keep things close at home, I have to give the edge to the Seahawks. Seattle by a touchdown.

Result: Seattle 33 Atlanta 10

Record: 1-1

Game: Detroit at Chicago

Pick: Detroit - Coming off a bye week, which allowed the likes of Calvin Johnson and Reggie Bush some valuable time off, I like for the Lions to win on the road against a banged up Chicago Bears squad. Detroit by at least a touchdown.

Result: Detroit 21 Chicago 19

Record: 2-1

Game: Philadelphia at Green Bay

Pick: Philadelphia - I would have picked Green Bay by multiple scores if Aaron Rodgers was starting at quarterback. However, due to that very unfortunate injury he suffered in the Monday night game against the Bears, I have to give the edge to the Eagles, who are coming off a 49-point performance against the Oakland Raiders and are looking to move to an even 5-5 on the season.

Result: Philadelphia 27 Green Bay 13

Record: 3-1

Game: Jacksonville at Tennessee

Pick: Tennessee - When picking Jacksonville games, the only team I see in the pairing is Jacksonville, and I know right then and there to go with their opponent. Tennessee, you're the lucky team this week! Congratulations!

Result: Jacksonville 29 Tennessee 27

Record: 3-2

Game: St. Louis at Indianapolis

Pick: Indianapolis - St. Louis has been playing teams tough since quarterback Sam Bradford went down with a season-ending injury. Indianapolis has appeared to be a bit shaky, especially after veteran wideout Reggie Wayne went down with a season-ending injury. Even in saying that, however, I like the Colts at home in this one. Indy by 3 or 4.

Result: St. Louis 38 Indianapolis 8

Record: 3-3

Game: Oakland at NY Giants

Pick: NY Giants - Oakland has been a difficult team to predict this season. Quarterback Terrell Pryor is young, inconsistent, and may be banged up. Their defense has been fairly stout for most of the season, but have a hiccup every now and again, as could be seen in allowing Philadelphia to score 49 points (in three quarters) this past weekend. Due to Pryor being a question mark and the defense performing worse than some Big XII college teams this past weekend, I'll give a slight edge to the New York Giants. They're coming off a bye, playing at home, and still have something to play for since they're in the NFC (L)East.

Result: NY Giants 24 Oakland 20

Record: 4-3

Game: Buffalo at Pittsburgh

Pick: Pittsburgh - This is a flip-the-coin game for me, where I'll go with which ever team plays at home. With E.J. Manuel likely back at quarterback for Buffalo, expect a little bit of rust initially, but for him to settle into the offense more in the second half. By that point, though, it may be too late. Look for the Steelers defense to play much better at home this week than they did this past weekend against the Patriots. Pittsburgh by a touchdown.

Result: Pittsburgh 23 Buffalo 10

Record: 5-3

Game: Cincinnati at Baltimore

Pick: Cincinnati - Baltimore is struggling, especially on the offensive side of the ball. Ray Rice isn't getting the yards on the ground we've grown accustomed to, and Joe Flacco isn't nearly as efficient of a quarterback without a solid rushing attack. Cincy is young and can be unpredictable at times, but after throwing three interceptions in the team's overtime loss to Miami last Thursday, I like for Andy Dalton and the Bengals to bounce back and send the defending Super Bowl champs to 3-6.

Result: Baltimore 20 Cincinnati 17 OT

Record: 5-4

Game: Carolina at San Francisco

Pick: Carolina - I just like how Carolina is playing football right now. They've played great defense all year. Their offense has shown significant improvements in recent weeks, and they've been blowing teams out. The 49ers have been playing better football, but have still been less consistent than Carolina on defense and their offense has been up and down as well. Given all this, I look for the Panthers to continue with their winning ways in upsetting the Niners on the road.

Result: Carolina 10 San Francisco 9

Record: 6-4

Game: Houston at Arizona

Pick: Arizona - Coming of a solid performance and then a bye week, I give a slight edge to the Cardinals in this one. Houston quarterback Case Keenum has played quite well since taking over at quarterback for Matt Schaub. However, he's yet to face a defense like the one in Arizona, and while the Cards may not get a pick-six, I expect them to pick off at least two passes, get into the young quarterback's head, and basically win the game for their team. So long as Carson Palmer doesn't do his best Eli Manning impersonation by throwing 3-4 interceptions in this one, the Cardinals should get the victory.

Result: Arizona 27 Houston 24

Record: 7-4

Game: Denver at San Diego

Pick: Denver - Hobbling Peyton Manning should be ready to go for this one after the bye week. Not only that, but it gave the improving Broncos defense another week to heal up and gel with one another in practice. It should be close for a while, but I like the Broncos to pull away late.

Result: Denver 28 San Diego 20

Record: 8-4

Game: Dallas at New Orleans

Pick: New Orleans - Dallas is back to one game over .500, so you know what that means, right? They're bound to lose this one to drop them back to .500. Not only that, but the Saints couldn't have been pleased with their performance against the New York Jets this past weekend, and will want to bounce back in this one, especially at home. I like the Saints by 10.

Result: New Orleans 49 Dallas 17

Record: 9-4

Monday
Game: Miami at Tampa Bay

Pick: Miami - This was a tougher game for me to pick than one would expect. Miami is coming off a big upset win over then 6-2 Cincinnati last Thursday night, where their defense finally played up to their potential. However, they also faced a struggling Andy Dalton, who threw three interceptions, and was sacked in the end zone in overtime to vault the Dolphins to a 22-20 overtime victory. Prior to that game, though, the Dolphins had lost four straight and their offensive line is now without two of its starters. Tampa, meanwhile, went up 21-0 on Seattle before finding a way to lose the lead at game's end and eventually fall in overtime. I guess until Tampa proves to me they can close out a game, I have a difficult time picking them. In saying that, though, it would not at all surprise me to see them pull off the upset in this one.

Result: Tampa Bay 22 Miami 19

Record: 9-5

Week 10: 9-5 (.643)

Total: 92-55 (.626)

Boycotting jukeboxes because of TouchTunes

I love music and enjoy hitting the bar(s) over the weekend, so naturally, when the mood strikes me, I've never been coy about playing some songs on the jukebox. This past Thursday, a friend of mine turned 50, so several friends of her's, including myself, all met up to celebrate the occasion. At around 9:30, a friend of mine and I both chipped in $5 to play some songs on the jukebox. Four hours and 231 skips later, we gave up on hearing the songs we had selected, and went home knowing we had just wasted $5. This wasn't the first time such a thing had happened to me (and many others), and due to that, I'll be boycotting jukeboxes. Why? The scam known as TouchTunes. You see, here's how the plot typically breaks down. A person (or group of people) downloads the TouchTunes app on his/her phone, consumes one too many adult beverages, and due to this, has less care for spending extra money to hear the songs of their choosing right NOW. That's the thing with TouchTun

The difference between "looking" and "checking out"

I may be way off with these numbers, but it's my approximation that at least 75% of individuals whom are involved in a serious relationship feel it's perfectly acceptable to "check out" members of the opposite sex they're not involved with. Meanwhile, approximately 25% either don't feel this is acceptable or aren't sure about the matter. I hadn't thought about this matter for a while, but since I've been dating a woman for about 8 months, the topic has been pondered about some. When reading or hearing others discuss this very issue, I often times hear comments similar to the following: "It's human nature to look." "There's nothing wrong with checking others out. I'm sure he/she does it too!" "It's fine to do it. Just don't tell your boyfriend/girlfriend about it or do it in front of them!" "It's natural to find people attractive." When observing the array of comments, I i

The verdict is in. To no one's surprise, Jonathan Hoenig has been found guilty of being an idiot.

Just recently, when discussing the Michael Brown shooting and whether or not race had anything to do with it, Fox News contributor Jonathan Hoenig said, "You know who talks about race? Racists." One moment while I provide Mr. Hoenig with the well deserved slow-clap. :: slow-claps for two seconds :: So, that was quite the line by Mr. Hoenig, wasn't it? "You know who talks about race? Racists." Well, wasn't he just talking about race? So, by his own words, I guess that makes him a racist. Also, if he wants to be consistent, does this mean that people whom talk about gender are sexists and people whom talk about sexual orientation are homophobes? With that line of thinking, Hoenig would engage in the following back-and-forths: Hoenig: "So, who are you voting for?" A woman: "The Democratic candidate, because he's been adamant about his support for equal rights for women." Hoenig: "You sexist feminist nazi!"
