Right-wing cyber attacks on healthcare.gov

While even the most ardent of Obama supporters can't deny the healthcare.gov website has had its share of problems, a recent report has showcased that right-wing cyber attacks may have played a factor in said problems.

When questioned by the House Homeland Security Committee, acting assistant secretary of the Department of Homeland Security's Office of Cyber-security and Communications - Roberta Stempfley - claimed that the website had been the victim of at least 16 attacks this year, including one which has been referred to as a DDoS or Distributed Denial of Service attack. A DDoS attack provides a website with more traffic than it can handle, which results in it being non-functional for most users. Unfortunately, a number of right-wingers have spread information about this attack tool, and called it, "Destroy Obama Care!"

The right-wing "patriots'" mission includes this note:

"This program continually displays alternate page of the ObamaCare website. It has no virus, Trojans, worms, or cookies. The purpose is to overload the Obamacare website, to deny service to users and perhaps overload and crash the system. You can open as many copies of this program as you want. Each copy opens multiple links to the site. ObamaCare is an affront to the Constitutional rights of the people. We have the right to civil disobedience!"

This report, while unsurprising, frankly sickens me. These "patriots" are trying to deny millions of citizens healthcare because they don't support this president. They can say all they want that the law is "unconstitutional." How did the conservative Supreme Court rule again? That it was constitutional. Just like their Congressional Republican brethren, they simply don't want to see the president of this country succeed on any level, even if it means in saving people from bankruptcy or even death due to finally having access to healthcare.

I recently read a self-described conservative say it's not insurance companies' fault for denying people with healthcare. It's up to the individuals to lead a healthy enough life to be accepted by these companies. Right... What about the millions of children whom are born with pre-existing conditions and wouldn't ever get covered if it weren't for a law like Obamacare? I've been denied because of pre-existing conditions multiple times throughout the course of my life. I was born 6 weeks early, at under 4 lbs., started suffering seizures not long after birth, was diagnosed with epilepsy at an early age, developed a brain tumor as a teenager, was born with anteriovenous malformation along my spinal cord, etc. Were these "conditions" all a consequence of me not living a healthy life? No. I had no choice in the matter, just like millions of other kids whom have no choice, and people like us have been consistently denied healthcare, because of things beyond our control. Even with the passing of the Affordable Care Act, it still feels like I and millions of other individuals have to fight for our lives for adequate healthcare - not only with insurance companies anymore, but with people whom call themselves "patriots," yet care more about making a president look bad than saving the lives of millions of men, women, and children in this country whom suffer from health problems. It's people like them whom make me grateful that I've only suffered from health problems physically, as opposed to mentally like they most certainly do.

Boycotting jukeboxes because of TouchTunes

I love music and enjoy hitting the bar(s) over the weekend, so naturally, when the mood strikes me, I've never been coy about playing some songs on the jukebox. This past Thursday, a friend of mine turned 50, so several friends of her's, including myself, all met up to celebrate the occasion. At around 9:30, a friend of mine and I both chipped in $5 to play some songs on the jukebox. Four hours and 231 skips later, we gave up on hearing the songs we had selected, and went home knowing we had just wasted $5. This wasn't the first time such a thing had happened to me (and many others), and due to that, I'll be boycotting jukeboxes. Why? The scam known as TouchTunes. You see, here's how the plot typically breaks down. A person (or group of people) downloads the TouchTunes app on his/her phone, consumes one too many adult beverages, and due to this, has less care for spending extra money to hear the songs of their choosing right NOW. That's the thing with TouchTun...

The difference between "looking" and "checking out"

I may be way off with these numbers, but it's my approximation that at least 75% of individuals whom are involved in a serious relationship feel it's perfectly acceptable to "check out" members of the opposite sex they're not involved with. Meanwhile, approximately 25% either don't feel this is acceptable or aren't sure about the matter. I hadn't thought about this matter for a while, but since I've been dating a woman for about 8 months, the topic has been pondered about some. When reading or hearing others discuss this very issue, I often times hear comments similar to the following: "It's human nature to look." "There's nothing wrong with checking others out. I'm sure he/she does it too!" "It's fine to do it. Just don't tell your boyfriend/girlfriend about it or do it in front of them!" "It's natural to find people attractive." When observing the array of comments, I i...
