The Most Ridiculous Headline of the Day

I saw an incredibly ridiculous headline this morning and felt the need to share it. It came courtesy of Shane Dixon Kavanaugh of vocativ. The headline read, "EXCLUSIVE: Before terror plot, ISIS fixer was an Obama fan."

Yes, you read that correctly; a man arrested by the FBI on evidence he was helping to plan a terrorist attack in this country, is supposedly a fan of the president of the country he had planned on attacking. That'd be like me saying, "Hey Diana, you know that guy I told you about who wanted to punch you in the face a bunch of times? I guess he's got a major crush on you! Yeah, like totally, for sure!"

I mean, come on, what's this headline and article trying to insinuate? That President Obama is in fact a Muslim, worse yet, a member of ISIS? That ISIS sympathizers are secretly liberal Democrats? Give me a frickin' break...

Here are a few excerpts from the article:

- "The Maryland man arrested by the FBI for allegedly receiving thousands of dollars from ISIS operatives overseas to carry out an attack in the United States spent time on Facebook showing support for the leader of one of the terror group's greatest enemies: President Barack Obama."

- "Vocativ found at least seven instances between October 2013 and April 2014 when Elshinawy (the man arrested) showed support for the president or elements of his administration's agenda."

- "Elshinawy was among the more than 325,000 people who 'liked' a photo shared by Obama in October 2013 that showed the White House bathed in pink light in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Elshinawy would later go on to like posts related to Obama's health care plan, economic opportunity and calls for celebrating religious diversity in the U.S. The profile linked to Elshinawy also followed two separate Facebook accounts belonging to the president."

- "A Facebook page linked to Mohamed Yousef Elshinawy, who is accused of supporting ISIS, promoted a handful of posts from President Obama's official account."

- "Elshinawy's last show of public support for Obama came in April 2014 - about 10 months before he allegedly took a definitive shine toward ISIS..."

Again, what's really the point of this article other than sensationalism, and with that, clicks? I can only imagine what some far-right conspiracy-loving conservatives were thinking when reading this headline... Not only does the headline show vocativ isn't coy about sensationalism, it also shows they're quite naive about social media as well. What's more likely, an America-hating terrorist genuinely likes the leader of our country and what he stands for, or he tries to fool people by acting as though he likes the leader of our country, so those whom he associates with are less prone to suspecting him of being a terrorist? Oh, and another question for those who work at vocativ: Ever "liked" something on Facebook which you actually didn't like very much? No? Congratulations; most people I know have done that at least a handful of times... So, yes, congratulations, vocativ, for being awarded the Most Ridiculous Headline of the Day!

Boycotting jukeboxes because of TouchTunes

I love music and enjoy hitting the bar(s) over the weekend, so naturally, when the mood strikes me, I've never been coy about playing some songs on the jukebox. This past Thursday, a friend of mine turned 50, so several friends of her's, including myself, all met up to celebrate the occasion. At around 9:30, a friend of mine and I both chipped in $5 to play some songs on the jukebox. Four hours and 231 skips later, we gave up on hearing the songs we had selected, and went home knowing we had just wasted $5. This wasn't the first time such a thing had happened to me (and many others), and due to that, I'll be boycotting jukeboxes. Why? The scam known as TouchTunes. You see, here's how the plot typically breaks down. A person (or group of people) downloads the TouchTunes app on his/her phone, consumes one too many adult beverages, and due to this, has less care for spending extra money to hear the songs of their choosing right NOW. That's the thing with TouchTun...

The difference between "looking" and "checking out"

I may be way off with these numbers, but it's my approximation that at least 75% of individuals whom are involved in a serious relationship feel it's perfectly acceptable to "check out" members of the opposite sex they're not involved with. Meanwhile, approximately 25% either don't feel this is acceptable or aren't sure about the matter. I hadn't thought about this matter for a while, but since I've been dating a woman for about 8 months, the topic has been pondered about some. When reading or hearing others discuss this very issue, I often times hear comments similar to the following: "It's human nature to look." "There's nothing wrong with checking others out. I'm sure he/she does it too!" "It's fine to do it. Just don't tell your boyfriend/girlfriend about it or do it in front of them!" "It's natural to find people attractive." When observing the array of comments, I i...
