Facebook picture compares Barack Obama to Casey Anthony

This morning, I had the pleasure ::tries not to laugh:: of seeing a post on Facebook with a picture which said, "Obama lecturing us on gun rights is like getting parenting tips from Casey Anthony."

I had to read this over several times and I imagine the look on my face was reminiscent of a person who just woke up at 6 am with a hangover, and is not exactly sure where they are.

I suppose if we want to look at the comparison from a very vague, simplistic manner, then I suppose one could make the argument that since Casey Anthony was an awful parent, the post is merely trying to suggest that President Obama is an awful lecturer on gun rights. That's the only halfway feasible explanation I can come up with, however.

Casey Anthony and her boyfriend appeared to be very careless with their daughter, which factored in to the child's death. They then allegedly attempted to cover up the girl's death out of sheer panic when they discovered she had indeed died. So no, it doesn't appear as if Ms. Anthony is going to be winning mother of the year anytime soon and will need to reflect on the decisions she made and improve upon them if she wants to give the whole mothering thing another chance. As the post ascertains, she probably wouldn't be the most sought after individual when it comes to parenting advice, unless a person or couple wanted to know what they SHOULDN'T do when raising a child.

On the other side of the equation is President Obama, who had a law license at one point (voluntarily retired the license after winning the election in 2008). The guy taught law school for 12 years and constitutional law for 8 years. In other words, the man is pretty well-versed when it comes to gun rights. In other words, while Casey Anthony won't be called upon to give any lectures on how to properly raise a child, President Obama has been called upon to lecture on the Constitution, which includes the 2nd Amendment.

Also, while Casey Anthony's neglect of her daughter played a factor in the child's death, President Obama's attempt to pass gun-control legislation is an effort to save lives. Ms. Anthony appeared to put forth minimal work as a mother and her child died partly as a result of that and President Obama is putting forth a great deal of effort to pass gun-control laws which would hopefully (likely) result in fewer lives being lost. The NRA can try to spin things as much as they want - the less guns that are in the hands of people, the less gun-related deaths result (both homicide and suicide).

Besides all of that, the comparison is right on the money ::rolls eyes::. Allow me to offer some advice to the person who originally thought up this lousy comparison - when comparing two people in an effort to make one look bad, make certain the comparison makes sense and doesn't make you look foolish as a result. President Obama has studied and taught law, including on the Constitution (gun rights), so comparing his expertise in the field to Casey Anthony's on parenting would be like if I said the following - "Going to a basketball camp with LeBron James as the teacher would be like going to a Tiger Woods speech on how to have the perfect marriage," in an attempt to make James look bad. James excels in basketball, while Woods isn't known as being the most monogamous gentleman in the land. If the original poster wanted to make the president look bad, perhaps he should have said, "Obama lecturing us on fighting to close Guantanamo is like taking parenting tips from Casey Anthony." That would make much more sense.

Boycotting jukeboxes because of TouchTunes

I love music and enjoy hitting the bar(s) over the weekend, so naturally, when the mood strikes me, I've never been coy about playing some songs on the jukebox. This past Thursday, a friend of mine turned 50, so several friends of her's, including myself, all met up to celebrate the occasion. At around 9:30, a friend of mine and I both chipped in $5 to play some songs on the jukebox. Four hours and 231 skips later, we gave up on hearing the songs we had selected, and went home knowing we had just wasted $5. This wasn't the first time such a thing had happened to me (and many others), and due to that, I'll be boycotting jukeboxes. Why? The scam known as TouchTunes. You see, here's how the plot typically breaks down. A person (or group of people) downloads the TouchTunes app on his/her phone, consumes one too many adult beverages, and due to this, has less care for spending extra money to hear the songs of their choosing right NOW. That's the thing with TouchTun...
