Sergio Garcia won't be inviting Tiger Woods over to his place anytime soon, well, unless he's serving fried chicken, as Garcia stated.
When asked by Steve Sands of The Golf Channel if he would be inviting Woods over for dinner during the upcoming U.S. Open, Garcia said, "We will have him round every night. We will serve fried chicken."
Garcia then recently "apologized" by saying this:
"I apologize for any offense that may have been caused by my comment on stage during the European Tour Players' Awards dinner. I answered a question that was clearly made towards me as a joke with a silly remark, but in no way was the comment meant in a racist manner."
Yes, Garcia was asked a question intended to be a joke, and while he may have only been kidding with his response, he should have known better than to have placed Woods in a stereotypical black light with his "fried chicken" quip.
That would have been like if Garcia was engaged in a war of words with a woman, was asked by a journalist if he'd be having her over for dinner and Garcia responded with, "Yeah. She'll be the one cooking actually."
Also, what was Garcia apologizing for, if he remarked that the comment wasn't meant to be taken in a racist manner? Garcia's comment was racially-toned. That's why people were offended by his comment. If he's not apologizing for that, then the apology isn't an apology at all.
Well, if I've learned anything from this back and forth between Garcia and Woods, it's that if Woods invited Sergio over for dinner sometime, he'd be serving him a whole lot of w(h)ine.
