Illinois Republican Representative Joe Walsh makes another asinine claim on abortion

Republicans already in or currently running for Congress certainly have made some interesting statements with regard to abortion in recent months. Missouri Senatorial candidate Todd Akin basically stated that he feels women's vaginas have magical powers and are able to block off sperm from a rapist to prevent pregnancy, negating any need for an abortion in the cases of rape.

In Thursday night's debate with Democrat Tammy Duckworth, Illinois Representative Joe Walsh said the following with regard to abortion if the mother's health was in jeopardy:

"With modern technology and science, you can't find one instance... There's no such exception as life of the mother. And as far as health of the mother, same thing, with advances in science and technology, health of the mother has become a tool for abortions anytime under any reason."

Again, here is another man who is extremely ignorant when it comes to women's health and abortions. In the United States, there are 15.1 pregnancy-related deaths for every 100,000 live births.

"You can't find one instance..." That's 15.1 per ever 100,000. Unfortunately, that results in many instances, Mr. Walsh.

If one wants to find a single instance where Representative Walsh comes across like an idiot, this would be it. However, call it a crazy hunch, but I have a feeling there are many other instances of the like along with this one.

  1. Ok, here's the thing: no woman asks to be raped. And when she is raped, the thing going through her mind is "oh my God, am I going to become pregnant?" Certainly no woman wants to give birth to the child of her rapist. So who is this man to tell the ladies that abortion is wrong? The day he grows a vagina and female reproductive system, then he'll understand. Until that day comes, he needs to keep his lowball opinions to himself

  2. Yeah, exactly. Whenever a guy gives a strong opinion with regard to women's rights, in claiming they shouldn't have a particular right and that this is the morally right thing to do, my first reaction always is, "Are you a woman? Have you ever been a woman? Do you have any idea what it's like to be a woman?" I didn't think so... ...and like you said, until that moment, "he needs to keep his low-ball opinions to himself."

Boycotting jukeboxes because of TouchTunes

I love music and enjoy hitting the bar(s) over the weekend, so naturally, when the mood strikes me, I've never been coy about playing some songs on the jukebox. This past Thursday, a friend of mine turned 50, so several friends of her's, including myself, all met up to celebrate the occasion. At around 9:30, a friend of mine and I both chipped in $5 to play some songs on the jukebox. Four hours and 231 skips later, we gave up on hearing the songs we had selected, and went home knowing we had just wasted $5. This wasn't the first time such a thing had happened to me (and many others), and due to that, I'll be boycotting jukeboxes. Why? The scam known as TouchTunes. You see, here's how the plot typically breaks down. A person (or group of people) downloads the TouchTunes app on his/her phone, consumes one too many adult beverages, and due to this, has less care for spending extra money to hear the songs of their choosing right NOW. That's the thing with TouchTun...

Face guarding is legal in college football and the NFL

I just wanted to remind fans and announcers especially, that face guarding is legal in both college football and the NFL. It all comes down to contact. So long as a defender doesn't make contact with an intended receiver, he doesn't have to turn around to play the ball. I can't tell you how many times every week I hear announcers talk about face guarding being a penalty. It's not. I even heard one announcer yesterday state, "If the defender doesn't turn around and play the ball, the ref will call pass interference every time." That's simply not true. Courtesy of referee Bill LeMonnier, he says this with regard to the rule at the college level (answered on 8/12/13): "NCAA rules on pass interference require the face guarding to have contact to be a foul. No contact, no foul by NCAA rules." In the NFL rule book, this is written:  "Actions that constitute defensive pass interference include but are not limited to: (a) Contact by a ...
