Paul Ryan's giving up anxiety and impatience for Lent! It's that easy!

Speaker of the House Paul Ryan recently posted this message on his Twitter account: "I used to give up food, like beer or ice cream, for #Lent. But this year, I decided to give up something different." He then elaborated on the matter in a video, saying, "I used to give up food things, I used to give up, you know, beer, or ice cream or pop. Typically what I do is don't pick those things back up. Ice cream and beer I still have a little bit, but I've given up so many things over the years, food-wise, that I decided to witch my Lenten vows to character deficiencies, or problems I've had." He then specified by saying he was giving up anxiety and impatience this year. Upon hearing this, Lindsay Holmes of the Huffington Post  criticized Speaker Ryan: "The more people conflate mental health terms with colloquialisms, the more alienated individuals with mental illness will feel. Do you know how many of those 40 million Americans wish they could jus...

North Dakota Representative Cramer: "If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat." Even children and elders?

In the book of Matthew, chapter 25, verses 34-36, it says: "Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me." When Republican North Dakota Representative Kevin Cramer was confronted about the Republican House's recent bill which would cut spending in the federal food stamp program, Cramer decided to respond with a different scripture: "2 Thessalonians 3:10 English Standard Version (ESV) For even when we were with you, we would give you this command: If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat." Reports show that 55% of food stamp recipients are either children or elders an...

In Sanford They Trust

It appears as if former South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford will be holding office once again, as he won a special election last night to represent South Carolina's 1st district in the House of Representatives. Keep in mind that Sanford is just two years removed from confessing that he had been cheating on his wife and even had to reimburse taxpayers for some of his travels to and from Argentina where his soul-mate-on-the-side resided. Also keep in mind that Sanford is a member of the Republican Party, which prides itself on being the party of God, faith, family values, traditional marriage, etc., and has moved so far to the right, cult leaders have even begun to say, "We want nothing to do with them! They're crazy!" So, how in the world did Mark Sanford win these people's vote? I have to imagine he persuaded them all with a speech like this: "Hello, South Carolina! How's it going? I've missed you. I went to Argentina so many times to visit my girl...
