Showing posts with the label favors

Oh, Twitter trolls...

As regular readers will know, I've had a great deal of fun on my Twitter page on #GOPDebate nights. During the eight debates, I've posted between 20 and 50 sarcastic tweets at the expense of the seemingly endless candidates. This has resulted in a significant number of "likes," "retweets," compliments, multiple mentions on other websites, and yes, trolls. I guess it kind of comes with the territory, yet 99.9% of the time I read these trolls' comments, I can't help but shake my head and do my best Linda Blair impersonation, as my eyes roll back so far even she would be impressed. Just last night, I received a few such comments, three of which stood out from the rest. The tweet which generated most of the trolls' comments was this one: "Trump: 'Conservatives are all about conserving, except oil, the environment, money, & human life, you know, b/c of guns & stuff.' #GOPDebate" Responses: 1) "Your just projecti...

What? Do We All Want Medals?

Know anyone who likes to remind you time and time again of something nice they did for you that one time? That time they picked you up when your car died? That time when you were out of money after paying the bill at a restaurant and they paid the tip? That time at band camp, when they taught you how to... Oh wait, nevermind. But I'm sure you get the idea. Know anyone like that? And whenever they want a favor done for them or feel that you're not being kind that day, they feel the need to bring up what they did? What? Do we all want medals? Seriously, how long can this go on for? I could list countless things I've done for others, but does that entitle me to countless favors in return? I was there for some friends of mine every day for a year, to prevent them from doing anything STUPID, if you know what I mean. One of their fathers continues to thank me to this day. That's good enough for me. I spent $2,000 a few years ago to take my folks, brother and I out to see th...

Give and Take

Are things mandatory? Voluntary? When two friends, lovers or spouses do something for the other, does the other party feel it obligatory to return the favor? Are they reluctant to think about it until a favor-possibility is brought to their attention? When that does happen, do they simply think about what was done for them and return the favor because of that of does that factor not even enter the equation and they do what is asked non-hesitatingly? Whether or not we mean to, it seems like many of us keep track of these things. Rarely does it seem voluntary for one to do a favor for another. When it does happen voluntarily, people are then easily taken advantage of or used. I see that happen many times as well. Heck, I've experienced that first hand. So, how do we know? How do we know that by doing a favor for another out of the kindness of our hearts, they'll truly be grateful and will not use us for constant favors, for the simple fact that we're kind people? How do w...
