The Kind-Hearted Smart Aleck

From the outset, I admit to having been quite leery about Twitter. An old friend of mine suggested I give it a gander 4 years ago, so I tentatively did, but once I created an account, I kind of shrugged my shoulders and thought, "Okay, now what?" I had just recovered from a 2 year health battle, had started getting into writing again, but had no real plan of what my next steps were going to be. So I simply tweeted random humorous thoughts of mine, kept in touch with friends and their seeming need to show me everything they ate and regularly update me on their sleep schedules. I finally reached a point where I thought there was really no point to tweeting and I'd be better off not condensing my thoughts and writings to 140 characters, and instead writing on a blog and Tumblr. After its first week, I gave The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore a B+ grade. While I didn't think the show appeared to be perfect by any stretch of the imagination, I also liked the Daily Show  meets Politically Incorrect vibe I got from it, and thought, with the proper adjustments, the show would indeed provide a great fill-in for The Colbert Report . In the show's succeeding weeks, however, I've been less impressed by it and think that if it doesn't make certain adjustments, it could be in jeopardy of losing many long-time viewers of the show's time slot. One major issue I think the show's had to this point is a lack of direction. It's been unable to decide whether it wants to be a comedy show with serious conversation sprinkled in or a serious show with comedy sprinkled in. On Fox News' show Hannity , anti-woman Ann Coulter said the following to host Sean Hannity about the government shutdown: "The shutdown was so magnificent, run beautifully. I'm so proud of these Republicans, and that is because they have branded the Republican Party as the anti-Obamacare Party." Earth to Coulter - the GOP didn't need the shutdown to brand themselves as the anti-Obamacare Party. I have a feeling their 40+ attempts at repealing the bill did the trick there. Also, the shutdown didn't just brand the GOP as the anti-Obamacare Party.
