A strange development has come about courtesy of the Buckeye Firearms Foundation in light of the U.S. Department of Justice asking police to "keep possession of all the evidence from George Zimmerman's second-degree murder trial," in all likelihood, so a federal investigation can take place on the matter. The Ohio gun group had an interesting response to these events, as they made the following statement: "The move to prevent Mr. Zimmerman from claiming his property is an unacceptable abuse of power. And the threats of federal charges on civil rights grounds is little more than blatant pandering for political gain. Moreover, based on statements he and others have made recently, Holder hopes to use this as the first step toward renewing this administration's attack on gun rights... I've been awaiting confirmation to find out if the letter-to-the-editor sent to the Hartford Courant by one Gary W. Bornman - a felon serving time in Florence, Colorado - was legitimate. After waiting a few days and researching here and there, it appears that the letter was in fact written by Mr. Bornman. This man actually has a history of doing this kind of thing. In 2001, the Hartford Courant noted that one of Bornman's hobbies was writing provocative letters-to-the-editor. It then noted a 1999 letter that the felon sent to the Los Angeles Times , entitled, "Counsel Me Before I Leave Prison." In this letter, Bornman wrote: "Prison officials aren't the least bit concerned that I have constant thoughts of harming others or that I fantasize about such things as assassinating the president or killing a bunch of [prison officials] as they leave work." Texas Republican Representative and man voted most likely to get into a fist-fight with himself - Steve Stockman - said the following with regard to President Barack Obama likely singing the United Nations' Arms Trade Treaty: "The right to keep and bear arms is granted by God and protecting [sic] from government aggression by the Constitution. It is not subject to the whims of global totalitarians massed in New York City." The first recorded use of a firearm occurred in the year 1364. It appears as if a die-hard pro-gun rights group has been placing a number of posters around the Washington State Capitol in recent days, in an attempt to speak out against gun-control legislation by comparing such legislation to discrimination against gays. One poster showcases two women holding one another, with the following words appearing alongside them - "Some people dislike gays. Others dislike guns. We should not base our laws on personal dislikes." A second poster depicts two gay men holding guns (not the ones below their waists...), whom are surrounded by these words: "We won our right to marry...now it's time to defend our right!" "And we sure as hell aren't going to take sh*t from homophobes in the process!" These are ridiculous arguments all the way around. At Jupiter Lanes in Florida yesterday, as a bowler's arm brushed up against his pocket during a back-swing, the man accidentally discharged his gun and shot himself. When this man's friends were asked if they'd ever bowl with him again, they said, "Only if he provides us with bulletproof vests and helmets." The shooter and victim of this incident then engaged in the following back-and-forth with reporters: Reporter Jebediah Fiction: "Why did you feel the need to bring a gun to the bowling alley?" Adam is 31 years old, a political activist, and attempting to organize a gun-rights march protest in this nation's capital on Independence Day. This morning, I had the pleasure ::tries not to laugh:: of seeing a post on Facebook with a picture which said, "Obama lecturing us on gun rights is like getting parenting tips from Casey Anthony." I had to read this over several times and I imagine the look on my face was reminiscent of a person who just woke up at 6 am with a hangover, and is not exactly sure where they are. I suppose if we want to look at the comparison from a very vague, simplistic manner, then I suppose one could make the argument that since Casey Anthony was an awful parent, the post is merely trying to suggest that President Obama is an awful lecturer on gun rights. That's the only halfway feasible explanation I can come up with, however. Casey Anthony and her boyfriend appeared to be very careless with their daughter, which factored in to the child's death. Tragically, at least 14 people were wounded in Cypress, Texas today in a stabbing-spree. Fortunately, no one has been reported dead to this point. Hopefully, it remains that way, and with time and counseling, the 14+ victims will all be able to live their lives without any further complications. Unfortunately, many far-right gun enthusiasts have been almost gleefully reporting this story to others, sarcastically saying things such as, "So, do we need knife control now, Mr. President?" The people saying such things are insinuating that there's really no difference between this tragedy and the one in Newtown, Connecticut, where 26 people were shot and killed. Ever since the tragic shooting spree at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut last month,  the gun control debate has run rampant in this country. Even in the world of Facebook, I can't tell you how many such debates have transpired just among my "friends" over the past few weeks. While I am a gun control advocate, I try as hard as I can to listen to the NRA-esque crowd. Just today, I read through many comments from die-hard guns rights activists, just so I could try to understand their perspective better. After reading those comments, and upon looking back at similar comments I've seen in those before-mentioned Facebook debates, I've started to notice what appears to be a trend, and may be a big reason why many gun control proponents and opponents have a hard time understanding one another and coming to a decent compromise. A week ago Saturday, in the run up to Martin Luther King Day and the second presidential inauguration of Barack Obama, guns rights advocates got together to celebrate Gun Appreciation Day. It's something King would have supported. Even though he was killed via a gun, he was as pro-gun as John Bobbitt was pro-knife. When I think of Martin Luther King, I think about a man who stood up for the rights of darkly toned weapons. So, what stood out about Gun Appreciation Day this year? At three different gun shows, five people were accidentally shot. Yeah, read that over again - on a day when gun rights activists made their voices heard by holding gun shows on a day known as Gun Appreciation Day in an attempt to depict most gun owners as responsible and to suggest that no additional gun control laws were needed, five people were accidentally shot at these very shows. I really had to laugh upon reading an article this morning. Shortly after the election last week, one Cope Reynolds - owner of the gun store Southwest Shooting Authority in Pinetop, Arizona - posted the following message no his site, in a newspaper ad, and on a sign at the front of the store: "To Whom it May Concern: I thought you all might be interested in this. Just because one yells louder than another, that doesn't make their statement any more valid. More times than not, it seems as if Republican leaders and Republicans in general like to yell that they love their American freedoms more than Democratic leaders and Democrats do. Yet, for as much as they love to clamor that they love freedom, Republican leaders have done everything in their power to suppress voting in this country. Why? It's simple - there are more registered Democrats than Republicans in this country and the people whose votes they're trying to suppress the most - minorities - historically vote for Democratic candidates and by extremely large margins. The fewer people that vote - minorities in particular - the better chance Republicans have of winning elections. It really amazes me that the same party who can't seem to talk enough about their love for freedom in this country - with regard to guns and religion in particular - has done all they possibly can to...

I got into a funny discussion with a friend a while back. She mentioned that she and her ex couldn't talk about anything. This was especially the case when anything involving politics or religion came up. I've heard both sides, the far right and the far left. Honestly, I don't think either side can truly prove they're right (as in correct). I read an article not too long ago stating that gun control makes things easier on thieves and rapists. I've also read that gun control is just a way to strip us of our rights, so the government can take total control. On the far right, it seems they believe if everyone owned a gun, we'd all be safer, because we'd all be able to protect ourselves. On the far left, it appears they believe if no one owned a gun, we'd all be safer, because there would be no threat of a gun. Both sides have a point, but there's no way to truly identify a clear winner in this debate. One reason is the fact that not everyone owns a gun, to counter the right's side.
